THE HUNGER GAMES MEME

Congratulations, Tribute.
You have been selected to participate in the Hunger Games.
The rules are simple: there can only be one victor.
You have to kill everyone else or die.
The last one standing wins.
May the odds be in your favour.

Congratulations, Tribute.
You have been selected to participate in the Hunger Games.
The rules are simple: there can only be one victor.
You have to kill everyone else or die.
The last one standing wins.
May the odds be in your favour.
⚔
OPTIONS FOR THE SCENARIO-MINDED:
1. ENEMIES: in for the kill
The truth is you've been plotting each other's death for a long time. The only thing different about this situation is that everyone else actually wants you to off each other. Who cares if both of you are probably going to die anyway: no one is taking this bastard down except you.
2. ROMANCE: lovers in a dangerous time
What do lovers do when they know they're about to die? Last kiss, last words, last fuck? Maybe you're desperately trying to protect each other from the rest. Maybe you're the last two left alive. What sacrifices are you willing to make? How far will you allow each other to go?
3. ALLIES: set your arms down
It's in both of your best interests to stick together. Two together is more deadly than one, and you can pool supplies and weapons. Of course, this arrangement is most definitely temporary. Maybe it'll fall apart tonight, or tomorrow, or next week. Maybe your alliance has already run its course, and it's about to fall apart...right now.
4. TORTURE: death's not the worst
Sure, the point is to kill them. But why leave it at that? Maybe you've always secretly gotten off on this sort of thing, or maybe you've just cracked under the stress. When everyone is going to die, there's no point in sticking to all those rules society laid down for you any more. You've already incapacitated them; there's no way they can fight back. Might as well have some fun, right?
5. VICTORY: the finish line
You've done it. Last one standing. You've chosen to live, and no one but you knows how much that choice cost you, because they're all dead. At this point there's nothing that will stop you from stepping up to claim victory. You killed every other tribute. Or did you?
6. OTHER: write your own story
Anything and everything you can think of. In the arena, there are no rules.
⚔
Let the Games begin.
2, yep
They've been through a lot so far and the subject has been ignored, but.
It'll have to come up sooner or later, right? ]
Riku...
sobbu
maybe it was weird not to want to be a Tribute, especially when they were trained as children for this. when there was such prestige for these Games. but he didn't like being a puppet. he never did. he'd wanted out of District 4, the fishing district, onto something new. but there was nothing he could do about that. not when he had friends and family.
as he heard his name, however, he turned to look at Roxas, face softening slightly. he extended a gloved hand. ]
Need help?
[ Roxas was one of his few close friends. well--a little more than close friends. not that it needed saying. and friends stayed through the Games... and Riku knew that if he wanted to die, it would be at Roxas' hands. ]
;3;
As much as he didn't want to think about it, he didn't have much choice to, did he.
Stepping closer to Riku, Roxas glances around, knowing that they'd have to find some place to set up but it being a little more difficult now with the snow. More importantly, they need to think about food as well, but which one is the lesser evil- starving or freezing to death? Neither option sits well with him, though he doubts anyone would be comfortable with death in general. He didn't.
He wants to continue living, even knowing that they've been prepared for this. Wants to go on and see old age. With friends. With Riku. ]
Think we'll be able to find a cave or something to set up?
[ Staying outside in the bitter cold... he rubs his upper arm with his free hand, trying to get some warmth back into himself. ]
these two why 8(
Either a cave or we'll have to set up camp on the snow...
[ which he really doesn't want to do. ]
If we find a cave... we'll have to have sleeping shifts.
[ they can't both sleep at the same time; they don't want to be ambushed, after all. he pauses in a brief moment. he feels so--hollow. cold. even if it feels intrusive, being... watched by cameras at every turn...
he'd rather a moment of normalcy. of how they act back home. so he just turns around and gives him a light kiss. something to warm them both up. ]
You're sleeping first.
they'll always be like this, probably 8'(
Hey, what- no.
[ He knows what the other is doing, just as he's done time and again ever since they started this thing. Always trying to take the first shift and allowing him to get more sleep between the two of them, which is not taking even shifts like they'd agreed to do in the beginning. Whenever he got his own chance to take first, he would do the same but. Riku took first shift more often than he did.
And out of both of them, the older boy needs the sleep more.
Stepping in front of Riku, he looks up at the other with narrowed eyes, determination shining deep blues. There's no way he'd let Riku do this again for who knows how many nights straight. Friends look out for each other and well. They're more than that, which means that they put the other before themselves. This time it's Roxas' turn. ]
I'm taking first this time. You need to sleep.
probably 8(!
at least, he was, until Roxas got in front of him. he blinked almost passively, his eyelids drooping and wanting to stay closed. when he spoke, he shrugged a shoulder, pushing his long hair behind it. ]
No, I don't.
[ he muttered, voice a bit hushed, eyes to the sky instead of Roxas.
he knew very well he couldn't lie to Roxas' face. ]
I'm okay. Besides, I need to hunt, too. I can't do that if I'm asleep.
no subject
Too many times.
Bring his free up to Riku's face, cupping a cheek instead of falling into the urge of yanking his hair just so the other could face him, look at him instead of always avoiding his gaze whenever he's lying. Oh he knows, the both of them have the bad habit of not being able to look someone in the eye and lie through their teeth. And the only he found out is because of all the times he's spent in the other's presence, learning the odd quirks and seeing through sarcastic comments.
His thumb brushes against the skin, glove preventing direct skin on skin contact before he lightly pats the cheek. ]
And just who do you think I am? I was trained for this too, you know.
[ Roxas tries to put on a grin, tries to bring some semblance of normalcy between them, like before. ]
I'm not some girl you always have to protect.
no subject
but he finds it in him to choke a little laugh. ]
You sure? You sort of look like a girl.
[ he teases, cupping Roxas' hand against his cheek. ]
no subject
[ This light bantering, these small familiar touches, it leaves an ache in his chest when he knows that one day he won't get to experience these things any longer. When he has to face an empty space next to him which is normally filled with silver hair and green teasing eyes. Not to say that he'll be the one to make it out alive, but just the thought of it possibly happening. Because he knows that Riku would die first before letting him die.
And in knowing that, he knows that he wouldn't be able to make it much longer after Riku is gone. Somewhere along the way, the other became a stable ground for him, familiar and comforting. It might have been the first time they kissed, or maybe the first night they spent together. Whichever time it'd been, it's a memory and it'll remain one when either of them are gone.
Memories are nice but. He'll be selfish and say that he wants to keep the real thing there. With him. ]
I think you look more like a girl than I do, what with your hair.
[ Roxas steps closer to Riku, wanting to just feel. To know that he isn't alone yet and hold on to the hope that he won't be for a long time. ]
no subject
[ his voice comes with a chuckle again, light and tinged with sadness. he knows Roxas must feel tired of the depression that always works on his features, has since they've been prepped and since they entered the arena to play the game. he wonders when he used to actually feel happy. it's been... weeks. just weeks, he has to remind himself. ]
Maybe I'll cut it when we find a place to set up camp.
[ he leans down to brush his lips across the other's forehead, just in time to hear a cannon. his head jerks to the side to look at the sky, grasping onto Roxas' hand. there's only six of them left. now five.
Riku knows a boy from District 1 is after him, mad for revenge after he completely destroyed his rations. He's more of a man than a boy, 18 in age and with dark skin and silver hair, like him, and bright golden eyes that glared at him with pure rage.
He's tried to steer clear, and in his heart, there's a flare of hope that that boy is the one dead.
but it isn't. Terra is. And Terra was an ally of Riku's, who'd also had Xehanort's wrath put upon him. quickly, he starts going down the hill, looking around. ]
We need to find cover, fast.
no subject
Someone's gone, left for that eternal darkness, never to see the light again.
His hand being squeezed by Riku let's him know that it isn't them, isn't one of them and that he's not alone yet. There's still time. But if thought in hindsight, not enough time and it never would be. ]
Y-yeah.
[ He can only follow, doing his best to keep up but Riku's always had a longer stride than him and with the deep snow they have to tread through, it takes extra effort. But they can't stay out in the open, who knows if anybody is close by, lying in wait for when they've let their guard down. A dangerous thing to do in this Game.
Looking around, he keeps a look out for something anything they could use to hide in. And maybe someone's looking for them from somewhere but he manages to spot something, to their right. ]
Wait Riku! There!
no subject
Riku tries not to think about it. his first kills came from those few minutes, procuring good weapons for not only himself but for Roxas if he didn't get the chance. so... there was a frozen pond to their left, and there was a layer of caves to the right, ones deep inside so it would be warmer, it would be best to go--
he turned sharply as Roxas' warning rang out, an arrow speeding right to him, through the thick winter coat he had grabbed, and into a tree. ]
--Roxas, get out!
no subject
For a split second he stares at the arrow embedded in the tree, through Riku's coat and for that split second his heart stops, as his mind thinks that the other truly hit. It's too soon, way too soon. But he doesn't smell that copper tang nor see any crimson splatter the white snow, he breathes again and his heart continues to beat in knowing that Riku is okay.
For now. ]
Like I'm gonna leave you here!
[ Instincts kick into overdrive and he makes sure his weapon is close at hand as he tries to get the arrow out. It's lodged in deep and he's not as physically as strong as his friend but. He's not about to stop here, not about to leave someone so important to him behind while he saves himself. Riku won't turn into just a memory here. ]
no subject
[ Riku pushed Roxas roughly, a glare burning in his eyes, enough to burn wood if he had that sort of power. he held the hatchet out for Roxas, though he knew that the other had a few other weapons on him as another arrow whizzed between both of them.
it cut into his cheek and blood spilled down in heavy drops, the archer coming from the bushes and starting to fire again. ]
Now or never!
no subject
And as another arrow whizzes past him, grazing his arm, he doesn't think to take the hatchet, pulling out the blades that normally keeps before dashing off to where the arrows are being fired from.
You better still be there when I'm done, Riku.
A silent message sent through the winds as he uses his lithe body to his advantage by easily dodging another arrow. Both hands holding a hunting blade each, he comes upon his opponent and goes in for a quick hit but it doesn't come too easily. Slashes to arms first, then to any other place able to connect as he evades return hits. But it becomes apparent that though his opponent isn't the greatest at close combat, having a lot more physical strength than himself, Roxas managing a fatal blow to the guy's neck while getting hit in his side.
Crimson splatters over him, spotting his face and clothes as he tries to breathe, only for it to hurt with each inhale. He can only hope that it's just a bruise and nothing's broken. They didn't exactly have the time and means to treat something like that.
Seconds later he remembers- ]
Riku!
[ Turing around, he tries to see a familiar head of silver, leaving his opponent to die. ]
no subject
he stared at Roxas' back as he worked, a little chilled. ... and yet, a little detached. he knew Roxas wouldn't kill him like that, if he died by the other's hand. they knew each other too deeply, loved each other too deeply, to let that happen. he closed his eyes, feeling blood drip down his arm, into his jacket, clumping the fur together.
he breathed in deep, tried to relax.
he wouldn't bleed out here.
he opened his eyes as he heard Roxas call for him, unsure of how long he'd kept silent. he forces a little smile. ]
Still alive.
no subject
How-?
[ He doesn't finish his question, knowing that this isn't the time to be asking dumb things. Blue eyes flash up to green, worry etched deeply into them. Despite that though, he's relieved that the other is still alive. ]
This.. isn't going to be easy.
[ It's going to hurt and with their meager supplies, it'd be a miracle if they'll be able to treat it as best they can.
First thing's first though- they need to get the arrow out. ]
no subject
[ his voice is calmed, is trained to be. he has always been the best in their training, in their classes to keep a calm head even if the odds were stacked against him.
he would not show panic. and aloofness was what he sold the judges on.
... but even if it doesn't show, he's internally panicking, fretting on how long he'll be able to live with their supplies. the kit he has on his back might not be enough. and they don't have enough freshwater in their bottles to clean it yet. if they build a fire--which is dangerous, could be a signal for the enemy--they could boil their water and it could help.
maybe.
if they went through a lot of risk...
but he was never going to be the one out, anyway. he was just... hoping to be with Roxas until the end. ]
It's okay.
[ what he always says. ]
no subject
He glances at the wound, the shaft of the arrow still stuck through the palm before turning his gaze to Riku again. Leaning close, carefully, he rests his forehead on the other's chest. As much as wants to take a deep breath, the lingering pain on his side and chest prevents him from doing so. Instead, he satisfies himself with what he can get, faint smells and presence, knowing that Riku's here.. alive.
A small moment of weakness before he pulls away and looks at Riku again, only this time there's a careful mask of calmness, an attempt at keeping a straight face in what he's about to do. ]
Ready? I'll try to do it as fast as possible.
[ Grabbing hold of the shaft in a firm grip, he readies himself to pull it out at Riku's assent. ]
no subject
I'm ready.
[ his brows furrow, and then he closes his eyes. ]
no subject
There's a grimace on his face and he almost wants to yell out for Riku when he pulls through flesh, squelches heard as blood drips to the ground. The hardest part is always the tip though luckily this one slim, pointed metal rather than jagged or stone. He doesn't shift in his position, going quick but not too quickly, until the arrow is finally out and he drops to the ground. ]
There...
[ He takes Riku's injured hand in both of his carefully before moving to the pack with the small amount of supplies they have left. They need to stop the bleeding and wrap it up as best they could. ]
We should probably head to the caves and rest there, yeah? Get away from all.. this.
[ Get away from the bloodshed, the reminders of what they're doing and what's to come. ]
no subject
this is what's become of him. a flesh wound, a splash of blood red at the feet of the Capitol for a mindless game.
he sighs. ]
Hm...
Yeah. Let's go. To the right.
no subject
[ Roxas takes hold of Riku's injured hand again, gently, while his other holds the pack of supplies. He wants to get it wrapped as soon as possible but he knows it's probably best to do so when they're in a secure setting. And while he would have done a quick wrapping right then, they couldn't afford to waste supplies.
Then again, there is that person lying in the red covered snow. He would have to pilfer what he could from him after dressing the wound.
The caves aren't too far off, thankfully. ]
Let's get this cleaned up.
[ His voice is softer than normal as he works on the wound, lips pursed, cleaning and then wrapping it up. There's still the matter of the cut on Riku's cheek and his arm, but this one on his hand takes the most priority. ]
no subject
[ he murmurs quietly, trying to keep his face neutral while pain ricochets like a metal ball in a pinball machine all over. no, with bodily pain like this, he can't hide the hurt. he has to wince, but he keeps himself standing straight, his free hand tightly fisted.
after the bandage is snug around his hand, he leans in and gives Roxas a kiss, deeper than before. but it doesn't stay for long. it's soft but meaningful, and when he pulls away, he lays his injured hand over one of Roxas'. ]
Come on. Let's make camp.
no subject
[ It might be sinking in just now that his hesitation could be the reason for Riku to be injured. If he had acted sooner, if he gone after that person quicker instead of staying back for seconds too long, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Maybe Riku would still have his good throwing hand in fine condition.
Guilt wells in the bottom of his heart, filling slowly with each step they take towards the caves, with each reassuring squeeze of hands.
He should have known better, been trained for this sort of thing to happen, and yet. When he thinks about the next time, and he knows there will be one, should he hesitate again.. it could be the last time he's able to feel this warmth or look into green eyes.
Next time, it could be his fault if (Riku) either of them dies. ]
