i could have danced all night.

the black tie event meme
It's the event of the season and you're going (whether you protest or not). Or perhaps it's just a work event. It could be one of many things, but your appearance is required so you had better dust off the tuxedo or the ballgown (or even the awkward cocktail dress) and make your way there!

1. Post with your character, canon, and any preferences.
2. RNG it up and tag strangers, friends, and everyone in between.
3. Feel fancy and have fun.

one → ( work event )
you're here because formals are part of your job. or perhaps this is the way your office likes to socialise at christmas, instead of the normal meal.
two → ( date )
this could be a long planned event, or perhaps you decided to surprise your significant other with a fantastically posh night out. i hope it goes well!
three → ( troublemaker )
what are you up to? i do hope you're not trying to ruin the night, steal people's property or generally cause havoc and commit crime.
four → ( working )
unlike the people in scenario one, you don't get to relax at fancy formals. you're actually on duty, whether that's serving, entertainment, or something else entirely.
five → ( that's life )
this is just what you do in your spare time. you're fancy and awesome and able to afford lavish events like this.
six → ( choose your own adventure )
whether you want to do something outside of this or mix them all together, you can go for it!

So he will be off wall flowering it up at the food table trying to not look too embarrassed at his overly professional attire. He's already got enough compliments that have made him self conscious so he's taking a break for the night. But not dancing or having a good time would look bad and, gods, he's terrible at parties some times.

She's not a very good dancer, and while she does dearly love to talk when she is comfortable with people, this isn't really the sort of environment that is conductive to her feeling relaxed. Especially not since she's been coaxed into wearing a deep red gown that makes her stand out far too much for her own personal taste.
She can't even hide behind her hair as she's otherwise used to, because it was made sure that it is artfully arranged in such a way that it leaves her rather pale but very striking features utterly exposed.
She is a representative of not only one, but two of the powerful families who as a tradition send their young to the academy after all, which is why skipping the event as she very much wanted to do wasn't an option. At least not if her aunt was to be believed.
She too has sought refuge by the food, even if she's not actually hungry, and is trying her best to draw the process of picking something out as much as humanly possible, and in so doing accidentally bumping into Helios.
"Oh, I'm sorry!"

"You're...familiar. Lireal isn't it? Of the Abhorsen family?" They were a rather prominent magically inclined family of this day and age. Helios knew from his own research and looking into that this woman before him was Lireal. Helios relaxed a little bit more as he moves away from the more crowded parts of the food table. He wasn't actually hungry either but he had to keep his wits about him and food did help that process, but his nerves were slightly frayed with all the going ons. His nerves usually were when it came to this time of the year.
"It's a pleasure to meet you."

The girl's cheeks are gaining some color as well, but she manages to give him a shy smile and even drops a courtesy. He is the head of the Academy after all, and she admires him greatly.
"The pleasure is mine."
She means that, too. She doesn't consider herself to be particularly inspiring company.
