The Demonic Possession Meme

THE D E M O N I C P O S S E S S I O N MEME

The words come from your lips, but they're not yours. It's your body that lies, steals and kills, but you're not the one doing those horrible things. But you can't stop yourself - you have no control. Someone - something - else controls you now. Maybe it's a demon, maybe something else. It doesn't matter, really. All that matters is that it won't stop until you die...if you're lucky enough that it lets you die. Or maybe it will leave you, soaked in the blood of others and crimes that you didn't commit. All you know for sure is that as long as this thing stays inside you, the horror will never end.
You know the rules: Post with your character and fandom, roll with RGN (or not), and tag others.

Options (TW for violence, lack of control, suicide, blood and non-con):

1. The Innocent Won't Inherit: You don't even know this person. It's just an innocent stranger, in the wrong place in the wrong time. Too bad the thing inside you has decided to make them its next target.

2. And I Must Scream: You're hurting, torturing, killing someone you care for. Maybe the person you love the most. Can you take control, or will you just continue to scream inside your own mind as your hands shed the blood of your loved ones?

3. The Devil In My Mind: The internal fight. You've decided to give your possesor a piece of your mind. Will it make any difference?

4. Oops, There Goes The City: The thing inside you isn't targeting one person, or even a few. It has a way to kill masses of people as easily as snapping your fingers. Can you stop it? Or maybe someone who figures it out will interfere?

5. The Crime Wasn't Mine: You wake up to find your clothes covered in blood. Maybe you remember what happened. Maybe you don't. Better think fast now, though - those sound like cop sirens in the distance.

6. White Is My Favorite Color: You told the truth. You should never tell the truth. Now you've earned yourself a nice long stay in Crazyville, with straightjackets and drugs as an added bonus. Maybe your experience did make you crazy. Either way, enjoy your stay. You're not going anywhere soon.

7. But You Didn't Say No: Your body commited about the worst crime a human can commit. Maybe to a stranger, maybe to someone you know. Maybe they knew what was going on and forgave you, or now hates and fears you with a passion. How will you deal with the aftermath?

8. The Demon Is Me: You wanted this. You love the feeling of loosing control, of feeling your limbs move under the will of another. Maybe you and your demon have been planning this for a while. Maybe someone will try to stop you, but it's harder when the human inside has no intention of stopping the mayhem.

9. This Isn't Salvation: Someone who knows their stuff got the thing out of you. But you still can't deal with the things your body did without you. Can someone talk you out of your self-hating spiral before you do something else you regret?

10. Stronger Than You Think: You've taken control back, but only for a little while. What do you do with your time of freedom? Tell someone the demon's plans and how to stop them? Free whoever you're hurting? Or maybe you'll try and convince the third party to kill you before the demon does anything else with your body. You only have a few minutes, though, before the demon will take control again - better make a decision quickly.

11. The End Of The Road: You know a way to kill the thing inside of you. All you have to do is take control and kill yourself. You'll have to fight tooth and nail to take control back, possibly with some outside help. But the endgame will be worth it when the threat is finally stopped. Or will it?

Very few people are. As you said, the learning curve is, is quite high. I actually have some experience with, um, with demonic possession myself. [Even from the other side of things.]

And, as you saw, that still came to...very little, in the end.

[He hasn't even really been able to bring himself to fully investigate what happened, or what sort of demon it was. That in and of itself is a bad sign, he knows. He should have considered the idea of "nasty surprises".

Giles tries to pull himself together a bit.]
Well, I'll certainly be happy to help with your research, however I can.

Oh good. This might go quicker then. [ She stops for a moment then just gives him a slightly sheepish look. That sounded a bit callus. ]

No one is perfect.

[ She nods slowly. ]

Thanks. Besides, I'll need to uh, interview you. To get an idea of how you were taken. It helps me figure out if there's anything left over.

[ She has done this before. Her air is very careful though. She doesn't want to hurt Giles. She is here to help. ]

[She might be trying, but the idea of having to discuss, relive everything, out loud and to someone else, is one that is almost physically painful for Giles to contemplate.

He hides it well, though, just because he has experience in keeping himself together in front of others, especially strangers. And if it's for research, well, at least he'll feel like he's accomplishing something. At least it will all be to a purpose. That's something.]

I suppose that's a sensible enough approach.

[He starts to step aside to let her in, and then pauses for a second, trying to choose his next words carefully.]

Just, um, one thing. Possessed. I was possessed. We might as well call it what it was.

[Or at least, "possession" carries an almost distant, clinical connotation, and is familiar to him.]
didnotwant: (Thinking)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-07 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She knows that reliving this will be hell on him. She knows personal hells pretty damn well.

Still this is something that needs doing. She carefully opens her satchel. There are a few books threatening to spill out of the bag along with a carefully bound together set of equipment that looks like it is meant to deal with a few supernatural problems.

One of the books looks like it should be in a museum just based on the cover. Middle ages, perhaps. ]

Possession. Right.

[ She nods in agreement as she passes by him pulling a book out carefully. She opens it with care thumbing through to somewhere in the middle. ]

Do you recall any unusual scents?

[She'll find the apartment clean. Relentlessly so. Possibly inhumanly so. A sign that Giles hasn't really been living here for a while, now.

He follows after her, shutting the door behind him. After taking a minute to gather his thoughts, steel himself, Giles goes to a chair by his desk, and motions for Marion to take the couch, or maybe the reading chair.]

Yes. [He relies a lot on smell, really.] Smoke. Something...unpleasant burning. I thought it smelled a lot like flesh, actually. The last thing I properly remember is wondering if someone was in trouble.
didnotwant: (Research time!)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm.

[ She chews her lower lip thoughtfully. Then goes down another half a page. ]

That's the standard smell for that kind of demon. They usually also smell vaguely... smokey.

[ Like charred flesh. ] So that's pretty normal. Sometimes in order to gain a foot hold they implant the idea that someone just out of reach needs your help. That you need to get to them. It gives them the chance to really sink sink their teeth in.

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-08 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, well. It worked.

[Buffy has been a bad influence on him, in that regard. Or possibly a good influence. The idea that people die every day, especially in a place like Sunnydale, had become too hard to swallow.]

I suppose, if I'd stopped and thought for a moment, it might not have.
didnotwant: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Someone ran me through with a sword for just that reason once.

[ She gives him a slight smile. Her situation is... unique. And oh so complicated.

Sunnydale is a good safe haven for her right now. She can write to pay her way and has access to all sorts of books that pass their way through here. But she is lonely. No werewolves like her are around here. She was always crap at solitude. ]

Wanting to help is a very normal and normally a good reaction. That's what the demon looks for. Something pure it can ruin.
consultmybooks: (Neither amused nor impressed)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-08 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
And it found it.

[Giles smiles bitterly. If you'd asked him before, he wouldn't have thought there was anything "pure" left in him. Now, he was sure there wasn't. It felt like the demon really had ruined whatever bit of him wasn't already ruined.

Yes, it had found something good in him. It had then twisted it around and people had died. Because he'd been weak, or hasty, or any number of things he shouldn't have been. Irrational, perhaps. But most of his rationality was tied up in focusing on Marion.]

Next question?
didnotwant: (Professional looking)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Rupert?

[ She gives him a sad and almost nurturing smile. She would have made a fine doctor in another life. Coaxing people through difficult times because she just cares. ]

You wouldn't be like this right now if there wasn't a shred of decency left in you. The demon didn't take that from you.

[ She goes on down the line. ]

What did it eat? Have you noticed any changes in your own eating habits?
consultmybooks: (Firing Squad)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-08 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
...of course.

[He doesn't sound terribly convinced. But, then again, Giles has never thought very well of himself. The demon only exacerbated that fact. Any goodness in him, he attributes to the efforts of Buffy, or her friends.

Even so, the smile he offers her is a little more genuine. If nothing else, he's touched by her effort. Then, taking a breath, he tries to move on.]

N-Not a great deal, actually. It seemed to favor certain herbs - my spice cabinet is, is greatly diminished from what it once was, although I haven't really examined more closely than that. Meat, besides that. Raw, generally. Whatever it could catch, or find.

[Thankfully nothing human.] Possibly because of some resultant nausea, I haven't had much of an appetite myself.
didnotwant: (Concern)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ The red head twists a faint smile. He was observant at lest. ]

Sometimes they don't trust human food. Or have weird tastes because they don't have human-like taste buds in the Hell dimension they hale from.

[ Raw meat doesn't put her off. She tends to crave it herself. But her body is adapted for eating it. ]

Broth. Start on broth at least. Act like it's a case of the flu. In a few days if you can't eat....

[ She writes something down on a small note pad and tears it off. It looks like some kind of mixture for a specialty tea. ]

Brew that. It should kick any issues your stomach might have from the meat.
consultmybooks: (Tea is Called For)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Giles takes the paper and gives the ingredients a cursory glance. It's enough for him to identify most of them, and have a good idea as to the tea's purpose and potential efficacy - both good. He nods, setting the paper on the desk for later.]

I will. [This time, he really does mean it.] Thank you.

What else?
didnotwant: (Paying attention (2))

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Spots or unusual markings?

[ She raises one eyebrow at him. She won't ask him to strip. She can't because it just invades his privacy even more.

Nut she will know if he is lying. Her senses are just as good as a real wolf's. Very useful. She thinks he looks normal.

Just tired. ]
consultmybooks: (Default)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-08 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
[And he wouldn't have if she had asked. Giles didn't trust anyone that much, even at his best. Despite the fact that she had done a lot for them, and really seemed to mean them no harm. Giles was grateful to her for that, but asking him would have been too much.]

A new scar, on my chest. Looks a bit like claw marks - I thought it might just be something from a fight I didn't remember getting into.

[Besides, he had checked for himself.]
didnotwant: (Oh crap monkies)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Any serration along the edges? Or does it look clean?

[ She leans forward in her seat. She is genuinely curious but she can't ask to look.

They just know her as that woman who helped them out. She certainly can't tell them everything. Even in this place they wouldn't be able to believe the whole story.

It's safer to just write her books and help out in little ways. This is one of the things she thinks of as little. It doesn't require her to get physical or anything. Just research and whatever words she can offer. ]
consultmybooks: (Default)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-08 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Some serration, yes. Well, more like tearing.

[There were a lot of gaps in his memory. That was, in a way, more worrying than what he could remember. What he could remember was generally awful. What he couldn't might be even moreso.

Rationally, that didn't seem likely, but Giles had a very good imagination. And, at the least, he could certainly have gotten into another fight without remembering.]
didnotwant: (Thinking)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She isn't a mind reader but there is a new logical step for her questions. Memory. She knows memory can be effected with trauma.

It took her months to fully recall the night she was mauled by that werewolf. It had been horrifying to have things just come back. ]

Then it could have come from any number of things. I won't be able to narrow it down without.... I won't ask to see it.

[ That would be rude. ]

What about your memory? Usually.... usually with trauma there are gaps. There are cases where the demon makes you remember even after it has left.
consultmybooks: (Firing Squad)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-08 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
...can it?

[Giles hadn't considered that possibility. Yes, there are gaps in his memory - a lot of them. But he has been having nightmares, powerful ones. While he can never really remember them after waking up, Giles had always been left with the sense that they were about his time possessed. He'd thought it was just about what he could remember. But if not...

Giles takes off his glasses and rubs at his forehead.]
There are gaps, yes. More when I'm awake than, um...than when I'm asleep.
didnotwant: (Research time!)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2013-07-08 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I researched mental trauma with.... supernatural beings very carefully.

[ A shadow passes over her face but it quickly leaves. Marion will Not talk about her history. Not unless she is asked anyways. She does not think he will ask the right questions.

Or any. ]

They can leave enough of a connection to haunt your unconscious mind. There are ways to fix it. I just.... I recommend being careful. It's a bit worse than ripping off a band aid.

It's more like getting rid of a nasty infection you didn't know you had.
consultmybooks: (Default)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2013-07-09 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Unfortunately for Marion, she was an unknown entity. Giles was naturally curious about unknown entities. More than that, she was someone who understood. He wanted to know why.

But, after he answered her questions. She said that he'd come here for research, after all. He respected that.]

Even after death? Or...in your experience, is this the sort of demon that doesn't die? Just dissipates, and reforms?

[If it's the latter case, he knows of a few precautions he thinks he can take. Once he's sure what it is. At the least, this talk is giving him that - certainty, and it's nice.

Still. Giles wonders, despite himself, just how she'd come across this demon in the past. He pities her, if any circumstances led her to meeting it more than once, or being possessed by it as he had.]
