[ life tends to throw a curve when one least expects it. and, really, this sort of thing eric never would have guessed on his own. even with aid and even if someone told him directly, it never would have been believed. and, truthfully, he likely would've put an ax through someone's throat.

nevertheless, as time wore on, hal got under his skin. and not always in the annoying, obnoxious sort of way that he did at first. (though, to be fair, that is how eric views everyone.) there's just something about him that he can't fully explain or even understand. their nights at the taverns became longer, as did their conversations. eric still kept most things to himself, but he found himself relaxing more. and it had nothing to do with the alcohol.

when the thought first struck him that his feelings toward hal were running down a slippery slope, he ignored it, hoped it would disappear. in fact he made several attempts to avoid the situation entirely, but it never lasted. it made him feel foolish and weak and the guilt weighed so heavily upon his shoulders. that was several cycles of the moon ago. he still feels those things, but they are slightly less prominent.

even more so by the fact they've been liberal with the alcohol this evening. consciously he doesn't realize it (subconsciously, he definitely does), but he sits a little closer, watches hal's mouth a little too closely when he speaks and, well—

somehow they're outside, walking somewhere. he actually can't remember because he wasn't paying full attention. eric's head swims and his vision is a little unsteady but it's fine. it's the racing of his heart that's causing him the problem. their hands brush with every few steps and it blooms warm over his skin. the next thing he knows, he's got hal pinned against a wall (this might even been someone's house—he just doesn't know) and pressing their lips together in a soft kiss.

later he'll think he was out of his mind, but right now, this seems to make perfect sense. ]

Hiei had done everything he could think of after that last blow up with Kurama. But his thoughts just kept going back to the Youko, no matter how far he traveled or how long it had been since the last time he'd seen him. He'd kept tabs on him more as a matter of course as Mukuro's right hand, considering Kurama's position at Yomi's side as well.

But a year had passed, and the little demon had had it. Mukuro was used to him flitting off for days on end without much warning - she knew she could contact him with very little effort if she needed him. He had a fox to hunt down and see if they could patch things up - so to speak.

Apologize? Not likely. The fact he returned should be enough.
