THE TRAIN TO THE AFTERLIFE

Congratulations! your character is dead — for whatever reason, whether it be canon, au, what have you. it'll be a bit of a journey to the afterlife, though, so your character might as well talk to the other people. death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. but death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be familiar people, whether recently deceased or long so. maybe your character know how they died, maybe they don't. perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear. maybe it was simply their time or maybe they weren't at all ready to go, but none of it matters. your character knows they're dead and the train is taking them to an afterlife.

Can definitely play that if you want, or just go with the meme's premise where your character meets Ayame on the train when it's finally her time. Most of her loved ones have already passed away and are waiting for her, so your character can be invited to the welcoming party! ]

[ She stomps her foot down against the metal of the train, and then leans back into a gentle float. As if someone meaning to relax after having just expended a bout of energy. ]

[This really isn't the time or the place for Kiara to be...Kiara, but she's always Kiara so that comment spills out easily. But she'll settle down instead of continuing to make comments like that.]

But you're right, it is just you and me here. Not quite the outcome I expected...or the one wanted, but here we are.

Xue Yang lets out a little gasp at the sight of the pouch. The precious pouch that had been stolen from him! He immediately takes it in his hand, eyes filling with tears. The fact that it's wiggling only then registers to him. Could it...?

Somewhat hesitantly, he puts it back onto the seat and loosens the string.

The pouch is warm and when it is set down again, it wiggles with more vigor. Then a stream of light exits the opening, forming itself into...

Xiao Xingchen. He bears a nasty gash on his throat, but there are more wounds where his heart would reside; wounds that are much deeper than Shuanghua had managed to cut.

Xue Yang begins to tremble as Xiao Xingchen appears next to him. He looks just like he had in that coffin, but he's moving. Xue Yang can't help it. He immediately grabs onto Xingchen's sleeve with his one hand, a harsh sob leaving him. "Xiao Xingchen...!"

The pressure startles Xingchen and he draws in a rattling breath. His arm is cold and his lips are almost blue. When he speaks, he is hoarse, his gentle voice broken.

"Why did you try to keep me?"

The way Xiao Xingchen looks and sounds makes him feel a little cold inside. Not that he's looking much better himself...

"You weren't supposed to die! I never wanted that! Xiao Xingchen..." he pleads as he holds onto that sleeve.

[gentledawn]

Blood tinges his lips and he coughs, the sound a painful rasp when he tries to breathe again. His soul is, genuinely, in tatters, blood soaking through his white robes.

"What did you...want...from me? To hate myself...? To look like a fool...?"

[bringingdowndisaster]

"I..." he swallows hard, "At first... I... I wanted to make you like me. I wanted you to understand what the world is really like! But then I... I don't know. I didn't want that anymore. I just wanted to stay! And I did! I did... until Song Lan ruined it! He would've taken you from me!" Xue Yang is babbling, both angry and upset and on the verge of crying as he clings to Xiao Xingchen's robes.

"You...stayed...with me for...years." Xingchen finds that part the most confusing. If Xue Yang hated him, why would he stay in the place they had called home? Why would he try to hold onto Xingchen's soul?

The bandage around his eyes slips and he stiffly reaches up, pulling it free. His eyes are intact, yet...sightless. They have also been damaged by what has been done to his soul.

"He carries me. You died." he turns, at last, towards Xue Yang, "Death hurts, doesn't it."

"Yes. Before you... no one else was ever... kind to me." No one had taken care of him like Xiao Xingchen had, no one had made him feel so happy.

He looks up when Xiao Xingchen's blindfold is pulled free, expecting to see the sunken eyelids under. He gasps when he instead sees those eyes, back where they belong, though something seems off about them.

Before he can question it, Xiao Xingchen continues, making something in Xue Yang's gut twist. They'd given the soul-trapping pouch to Song Lan? "Xiao Xingchen... I'm sorry."

[gentledawn]

A little flicker of expression crosses Xingchen's pale features. He seems drawn to Xue Yang even as he tries to shut the man out. Is he doomed to be too weak; too foolish? His fingers curl in his lap and he opens his cracked lips, his mind and heart in chaos.

"I've listened to you. I've heard your cries." his forehead furrows, "But I didn't have the strength to answer."
