[ One glances at the other, then both stare at her like they're trying to figure her out. Then one smiles in almost a resigned fashion, offering up the bedding. The nights get cold, she explains, and Jefferson wanted to make certain that she didn't grow too cold.

The other girl blurts out an apology, and both of them look extremely awkward about the whole thing. They didn't know she was his lover, how foolish they must have appeared. The smiling girl appears to be doing a better job of masking her disappointment, but neither girl appears terribly heartbroken. ]
