[I tend to prefer a 'wings are a normal if maybe uncommon genetic trait' universes, that said, Eddie's wings are the blue-sheened black of an American Magpie, and when he actually extends them the white primaries show, but he usually keeps them close, a smaller target even when everything else about him is big and loud.
Of course, post-Vecna they might be the same just tattered all to hell, or they might have changed with the rest of him, gone to membrane like the demo-bats, it all depends on how we want to approach the situation.]

[Leathery dragon-y wings, she usually keeps them hidden under a jacket -or just pretends they're a cape- because even among her people that's not really a normal thing to have, and whether she had them before she maybe died for a few minutes or not is anyone's guess. She's sure not talking.]

Hydra wasn't overly concerned about getting them back into working order (no sense making their weapon a literal flight risk) but as long as they weren't slowing him down and could still be used as a threat display or in a fight, that was all that mattered.

Shuri fixed the arm for him, but wing replacement and articulation took a lot longer, more moving parts that had to be handled more carefully, especially because she didn't want to have to remove what was left of the one just to replace it entirely.

Which is to say: He's got one wing that's fully the white and gold of a barn owl, and one that's half that fading into something that's the same black and gold as his new arm.]

Steve's wings are the shocking blue of a Steller's Jay, and you bet he's as particular about them as he is about his hair.]

[Her wings don't really look like much indoors, plain, even dingy black, perpetually covered in dust from outside, really. But when they're more clean, or the sunlight hits them just right, they're highlighted with purple, blue and even gold, just like a Grackle.]

Her wings are the rosy-sandy color of a mourning dove, and unfortunately they no longer work properly. For all the repair and rebuilding that Vecna was able to do, her wings are still misshapen. Not entirely crumpled, but hanging crooked all the same, and one doesn't fold completely anymore, always sticking out at an odd angle. Chances are good she hasn't been taking as good care of them as she used to, no reason to keep up appearances if she never has to make appearances.

Kind of verse doesn't really matter too much to me, whether it's a normal everyone's got em, whether he's a fun freak of nature, if it's a magical gift bestowed on him, funny shenanigans for everyone to laugh at while he demands it be fixed, or anything in between. [Zepar usually keeps his wings out of sight and out of the way, but when they are visible, they're the same as a common pigeon pale gray with darker gray banding and even paler undersides. He can also actually achieve flight with them, he just doesn't do it often.]

The doctor--Clint keeps calling him the veterinarian, and seems to be the only one who appreciates his own hilarity--said two weeks of rest and recovery. Clint gave it one, and he feels like everyone should be grateful he lasted that long.

His wing feels stiff on stretching it out, and he can feel the buzz of what should be pain under the painkillers he's still supposed to be taking. But if he doesn't start exercising this thing, he's going to go absolutely stir-crazy and make that everyone's problem. Being grounded sucks.

The gym is unfortunately the best place for him to give it a go. He'd truly considered the hangar for the sheer space, but god forbid the doc was right and his wing gives out and he goes crashing right on top of a quinjet. Gym's at least got padding. And it's late enough he figures not a lot of people will be around to see him struggle. Worst comes to it, he'll just punch a bag for a bit and run a treadmill and work off some energy instead.

There's a twinge that shoots right into his shoulder, and he rolls it and his wing a few times before smoothing out some of the feathers. The bandages made it feel like some of them are misaligned and probably still sticky with gauze that should by all rights still be on. "Right, fine, start small, don't show off." Make sure he can flap without issue before he goes and tries to soar his whole weight overhead. Crawl before running. He feels oddly lopsided, given his left wing wasn't hurt, able to stretch and flap and fold and all that good stuff freely. He bounces from foot to foot a few times, psyching himself up, and unfurls both wings again, carefully stretching out even as he feels the pull. Breathe in, breathe out, just keep breathing. And go in for the flap-

"Agent Barton."

This is not unexpected. It's a chore to get Barton to see medical in the first place. Expecting him to follow doctor's orders to the letter is unreasonable. Phil had hopes he would stick to the timeline and actually rest his wings for the full two weeks but that's why hope is wonderful. He can hope anything.

Reality is a lot less hopeful.

He steps into the gym, hands in the pockets of his pants, and head tilted very slightly to one side. He's not frowning. His expression is politely curious, one eyebrow slightly raised.

"You're not cleared to have your wing free. It should still be bandaged for another few days," he says simply because that is the fact.

Phil has read the medical report. Barton's doctor reported it directly to him. His wing should be bandaged closed. It is not. He's fairly certain Barton is going to try and do something stupid like fly.

Coulson's voice makes him wince, noticeable with the twitch of his wings. The left folds easy; the right is slower, more ginger.

"Hi, boss." Easy and casual, running a hand through his hair like he definitely didn't just get caught doing something he shouldn't be. Story of his life. "Shouldn't you be doing oodles of paperwork and be literally anywhere but here right now?"

( ooc: i love fanart of alhaitham with falcon/vulture wings and/or an animal form. looks at my profile. his flight feathers would reflect the pattern and colors of his coat. for the animal form, the rest of his plumage would be grey.

willing to brainstorm scenarios to make it interesting! the wings can be new or already established. genshin has gliders and furries already anyway, so it wouldn't be too far outside of the norm. )

"I was doing paperwork." Some of which involved Barton and his missions. Some for other missions by other agents. A large portion of Phil's job was paperwork when he wasn't in the field.

He steps a little closer, hands still casually in his pockets. "But imagine my surprise when I saw your id had been scanned at the gym."

Yes, he has an alert for that. He has one for Romanoff too because she also likes to ignore medical. His two best agents are a handful and very independent. Phil has taken extra steps to keep a close eye on them and make sure they don't hurt themselves denying they're injured in the first place.

"I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt but well, the security feed said I should come down and talk with you."

"I wanted to see how I was healing." It's not really a lie. But it's also beside the point, the point being that the doctor gave certain orders, and Clint takes those orders and decides they are mere suggestions instead.

He stands his ground, though. "Spying on your own spies? Man, they don't make 'em Cold War paranoid like that anymore, huh?"

[In a timeline where everyone has wings, Kabal's used to look like peregrine falcon wings...and they arguably still kind of do, but they've been badly burned and his feathers come in pretty patchy.]

"If you went to any of your follow up medical appointments, you would know that answer." Because that's another thing Barton had a tendency to blow off. If he wasn't dragged by Phil or Romanoff, he would not go to medical.

Phil nods because there's no point in denying it. "I watch over my people. It's my job."

He huffs out a breath. "Now, I could try to wrestle you out of here but I know you're going to make it difficult or you'll sneak back in when you think I'm not in the building."

Sadly, he practically lives at SHIELD but they're not talking about Phil's short comings right now.

"So, I am going to stand here and supervise while you do whatever it is you need to do. And then I will drag you to medical."

"I'm fine," says the guy with one wing a little droopy and off. Even he seems to realize how stupid that is to say and makes a point of pulling it in the rest of the way. "I'll be fine. I just needed to stretch. This being on the ground shit is killing me, and it itches and is stiff and just needs to get some exercise."

Whether it's recommended by medical or not. Apparently.

"You're gonna waste precious paperwork time supervising a trip to the gym? And what if I decide to be a good bird and keep both feet on the ground?" Or, hell, better yet: "If you're that worried, you could make it an order."

Sure, his history of following orders is demonstrably spotty, like now, but he respects Coulson.
