The Doctor had found himself having to scrambled to get to the controls in an attempt to land her, or in better words crash land the TARDIS. It was more his fault than anything, and of course his ego might not allow him to admit to that.

Slowly he climbed back up to his feet, and he looks over at Peri with a scowl on his face. "Of course you didn't." He said with dripping sarcasm. "You pulled the wrong lever, I told you the red lever to the right of the..." The Doctor sighed, and he reached over to look at the sensor screen. "Ooh, never mind.
