ANGST.

[ These days Naminé is somewhat less fearful in the company of strangers, but she's never quite lost her caution; she learned that lesson too well in the beginning of her life. It's true that she remains a wallflower by nature and that Riku's long been her comforting anchor in the sea of unfamiliar faces, but in point of fact - she knows she just wouldn't be able to settle into the festivities without keeping an eye on him after today's events. She's not so childish as to fear he'll be spirited away somehow if she lets him out of her sight, but her nerves will still have it no other way.

Watching him as he faces her, Naminé can't help the obvious downturn of her mouth. Although she's spoken the truth - and maybe one that needed to be said - the look on Riku's face as he formulates an explanation makes her regret the words. Terrified as she might have been, he shouldn't have to feel bad about saving her. Her lips purse as she tries to work out her own apology, only for him to beat her to it. Giving out a sharp little breath, Naminé leans in a couple of degrees, ready to tell him that isn't necessary, that it's her fault, really-- until that other comment makes her straighten again, blinking at him in concerned surprise. ]

Not thinking straight? [ He's never been one to lose focus in battle very often, and immediately her brow pinches as she tries to make sense of this. The first explanation that springs to mind is, ] Did you hit your head?

[ And if so, should she have been healing that first? The mere notion seems to have her preoccupied, that knit in her brow growing more pronounced as she studies him more closely than before. ]

[ Fai hadn't expected to end up at a costume party when they first arrived in this world, but Kurogane had immediately taken to picking up odd jobs and sure enough, here he was. He and Mokona had volunteered themselves as party attendees, making up the excuse that it would make Kurogane feel more comfortable in whatever embarrassing costume the two would end up picking out for him. (It did not, in fact, make Kurogane more comfortable. Syaoran probably considers himself lucky for staying home.)

The very moment Kurogane's shift started, Fai was shooed away and told to do anything but bother him. Almost immediately, Mokona took off for the buffet, leaving Fai to fend for himself.

He doesn't mind at all, chatting with other guests about their costumes and his own—a vampire costume that he thought was funny, even if Kurogane didn't find the humor in it. Eventually, he spots Sakura standing by the entrance, watching the crowd. She looks a little out of place, like she doesn't know what to do.

Although this isn't the Sakura he knows and cares for, Fai still feels that parental instinct to make sure that she feels comfortable. He doesn't give it much thought as he takes a glass of soda from one of the wait staff and walks over to her, holding out the glass for her to take. ]

Ah, I didn't expect to see you here, Sakura-chan! Is this your first costume party?

[She isn't necessarily aware of the other Sakura and Syaoran with Fai yet. If she does recognize it is him given the masks, she probably just assumes he knows her from their meeting prior. Sakura pauses in her glancing around in observing everyone when he approaches and hands her the drink, instinctively taking it and having a sip. She thanks him, glancing up and down at him as she tilts her head.]

It's that obvious? I've been in a school play, to some parties with friends but this is different. Everyone all dressed up like this. The dancing. I'm sure most everyone is older. But onii-chan wanted me to come to keep an eye on me while he works since dad is away at the moment on another of his digs or something. And when Tomoyo-chan heard....

[She gestures with her other hand, fidgeting with her dress as the other holds her drink. Even if Tomoyo hadn't been able to make it of course she had wanted to dress Sakura for the occasion.]

The raen jumps into action at Theo's request, running off again, and by the time he's finished typing Theo's mask and pinning it to his hair, she's back. A satchel of small bottles clinking away in her arms.

"One for you, and this will be enough for the rest of Nidhana's friends, yes? You will all take a bottle and drink it, every last drop. And if you do not, I shall be sure to tell my dear master. she will fuss terribly, you know. And whatever she offers you then will taste thrice as bad, and you shall have to look her in the eyes if you wish to refuse it."

G'raha pulls the medicine bag over his shoulder and sighs, taking a bottle from it. ]

I was rather hoping to avoid taking any medicine myself...

[ Not unlike Theo's own, is what he's getting at with that. Yes, he will return the clips eventually. However, with the lack of a filter that's apparently going on to some degree - less now since the fever seems to be lifting and the haze that had clouded his thought processes clearing - the Viera would like to see it. Something of a token if nothing else.

Don't think too hard on it. Or do.

His attention shifts back to the woman scurrying about. While Raha fusses with things, she seems to be as well. At least there is something for the others. Theo would feel pretty terrible if he managed to spread anything to anyone. Especially right now.

Though his shoulders do shake with a chuckle at Raha's complaint. ]

Too bad. If I am to go through all of this then you need to do what is necessary to avoid infection yourself.

[ Is he suddenly overwhelmed by the tiny, intimate idea of exchanging hair accessories? Yes. And that's good. Theo's getting better at teasing him again. That has to mean he's at least feeling a little more himself.

He swills the mixture around in the bottle and then sighs, staring at it for a few seconds before he gulps the whole thing down. It's vile, and he is nowhere near as good at maintaining his stoicism as Theo is. His face twists with it, he practically doubles over with the effort of forcing himself to swallow. When he looks up it's with eyes watering as he holds a hand over his mouth to make sure he keeps it down. ]

Ugh, remind me- [ After a few seconds, he feels safe to actually open his mouth again. ] -remind me to never again question the amount of birch syrup Tataru puts in her medicine.

[ What is likely going to make this worse for Raha later is the realization that the Viera likely hadn't been teasing. Or, rather, that hadn't been his intent. No, the words that had passed his lips had been nothing more than a genuine thought making itself known. Not in the best circumstances, perhaps, but it is what it is.

His eyes do shift from the alchemist to the Miqo'te and then back. It's not until Raha struggles to take the contents of the little glass vial that Theo is looking over at him again. This time it is his hand that reaches up - still shaky but with renewed strength in it all the same - and rubs at the other's back in kind.

It's okay fair. ]

[ The raen throws her head back and laughs before ruffling his hair in a way that is either an attempt to be comforting or to be condescending. It feels a little like both.

"That's how you know it works! Imagine if you could just drink a whole bottle of it without a second thought, you wouldn't be able to trust it to do anything at all. Nothing pleasant ever saved anyone from anything."

Theo's touch is unmistakably comforting, and he relaxes at it. He's more relaxed now than he was before he took the horrible medicine, with the knowledge that Theo seems much improved. ]

I am thankful that I have taken it now. It is an experience I am more than happy to have over and done with- ugh.

[Jack leans a little, seeing the many distorted reflections of his own face dappled across the smooth swirls of metal. it's a very artistic-looking piece - something that seems more decorative than destructive at-a-glance, but there's signs of wear and use beyond just smacking rocks around.

[ To be fair, it is likely a bit of both. There have been moments where Theo has been tempted to do the same. However whenever he makes the attempt, it turns more into something affectionate. Or it becomes a desire to simply tangle fingers in there and see that braid undone.

So the Viera just best keep hands away from that particular area. For now. ]

You may well have to take it again later to ensure a continued effect.

[ His condition has improved. Oh make no mistake though. It's merely masking what is going on inside his body. True recovery is not going to happen until he can take a moment to actually endure bedrest - for it will be a test of endurance. At least the red mage is able to get to his feet for the time being. ]

How soon am I able to return to things?

[ Probably not something to ask the alchemist. No doubt Theo is about to get scowls thrown his way. ]

[ The healer jams her horns into Theo's chest again to listen to his improved breathing. Which is objectively pretty funny to watch now that the worst of the worry has passed. It's the first time he's ever seen shoving one's face into someone's chest being used as a form of diagnosis.

"You will be able to return to your work when you can stand up without support. You will be permitted to return to it when your presence is truly required, and not so much as one second before that. You understand? No collecting dropped items. No running about to deliver correspondence. No rescuing small animals from trees. You will go about your work only when your presence means the difference between life and death, do you hear me?"

...it might be a little easier to take seriously, except forthe fact that she is still bending to listen to Theo's lungs. And thus all of these demands are being made to his ribs.

G'raha sighs, sitting down next to Theo. ]

I suppose we have our instructions, then. Wait for someone to use the linkpearl and inform us that something has gone dreadfully wrong.

[ Well. Technically that's the instructions for Theo. He could leave to do his share of the work. But he suspects everyone would disapprove far more of leaving Theo alone than they would disapprove of having to pick up the slack left by two people instead of only one. He'll stay here, for the moment. Help with anyone who comes to the Crucible in need of medical care that his white magic can help with, and otherwise stay close to Theo. ]

[ It is quite the sight. One that Theo still doesn't know what to do with. The first time he had been too out of it to really register what she had been doing. Now that he's more alert and aware he's just sort of. Staring down. In bewilderment. His hands are sort of up in a "I'm not touching" sort of way while looking back at G'raha. It really is a good thing that Viera have such a sharp sense of hearing. ]

So we went through all of this for my person to be on standby.

[ Hear that tone of displeasure in his voice? If he's going to be on the sidelines at the moment then what had been the point of getting him up on his feet so quickly? Theo might be able to agree to no minor tasks - because somehow he does accumulate those. However to be told he can't do anything unless the situation is dire? The situation in general is dire enough to at least merit the Warrior of Light being visible and walking around, correct?

This time he is the one looking at Raha like "please say something to change her mind." Yet the Miqo'te is sitting by him. Almost resigned. ]

But what if the "dreadfully wrong" incident could have been avoided entirely?

[ G'raha better not dare leave him here alone. It would be so horribly awkward. Yet the Viera is going to try to stand and, as one might guess, it doesn't quite work. For the first several attempts, this doesn't seem to work out just right. Eventually though, Theo does make it to his feet, but looks just a little unstable. But at least he can take a couple of steps? ]

[ A guard for the hand... most weapons in Hallownest don't feature anything like that, but they think they remember seeing one similar blade somewhere. One wielded by the mage-knight in the Sanctum; the only one of its like, but not any stronger than the Knight's own blade. Far too long for it to wield, anyway.

It holds out its small hand, three-fingered and clawed, the black chitin covered in scuffs and nicks. A long jagged scratch cuts its way from finger to elbow.

... Perhaps it may not be the worst idea to ask the Nailsmith to affix one, even if it'd always gotten by without a guard. If something can be made for such a unique design.

But it shrugs. That sort of thing had never occurred to it before... nor does it seem to be as necessary for bug as it is for someone like Jack. Here, it makes its point by sharply poking at the soft side of the samurai's hand, and then tap-tapping at the hard shell of its own. ]

Good news, she's moved her head away, so she's actually looking him in the eyes now. Bad news, she's confident enough in how his lungs are doing that he gets poked in the chest this time.

[There is something a bit odd about The Tardis. Clara might notice that the John Ambulance Symbol isn't there by the right door handle. Furthermore, a slightly different shade of blue. Darker. Eventually - The Tardis simply allows Clara inside. Where Clara will find some stranger in a brown-pin stripe, red shoes and messy brown hair, sitting there and brooding on the small white sofa. The console is a different desktop. Very steampunk. The Tardis had been debating if this was a good idea or not but she also can't allow her thief to continue to be so - moody.]
