A less shaken and exhausted Kay would perhaps have responded snarkily, but in her current state she sighed a kind of exhausted agreement. Her part wasn't entirely over, but there was a respite and Kay was thankful.
The infant's squalling had quieted, the newborn having apparently exhausted her new lungs already already, though now that she had quieted to mere stirring Kay brought her up to the breast, offering the baby her first meal. Too, she looked over at Astren and Joey, who had respectfully been giving the pair of new parents some privacy. "She's healthy? Alright?"
Astren nodded. "Everything checked out. Everything that I could check for." Which was a considerable amount. "Still, bring her in to a pediatrician as soon as you can. It doesn't hurt to be thorough."
Kay nodded, another general fear alleviated, and looked back to the baby, who was just beginning to figure out what she was supposed to do.
