In the midst of the act, he doesn't touch them. He doesn't want to bring her out of the moment by accidentally sparking off any terrible memories. But sometimes when he's beside her (especially right now, in the waking world, in her dark little room), he finds himself tracing them with his thumb when he's half-asleep on her pillow.
