Open 24-hours, in large cities Wal-Mart is a place people show up to shop mindlessly for anything they need. In small towns, it may be literally the only business open after 10pm, making it an unlikely hang-out for locals.

Regardless of where it's located, Wal-Mart always seems to have the strange effect of making time crawl, as the aisles stretch on into infinity, and the tinny in-store music plays on a loop.

[There is a woman, pale, ethereal, seemingly human from a distance — up close, she is something of an anomaly — who is traversing the seemingly endless rows of human miscellany with the energy of both reverent fascination, and that of some sort of feral, weaponized child.

She’s found a Nerf gun. She’s also found a real gun, because it’s Wal-Mart. Each hangs off her waist, though this seems overkill, given that she appears to be armed with a sword, and an even bigger, scarier sword. Both hover at her back, held in place by strange rings made of light. There is also a floating little box with her, carrying what looks like a bunch of Airheads and M&Ms. And lollipops, and Takis.

The woman is tentatively nibbling at one of the Airheads.]

Hey. What’s a “mystery” flavor?

[The box responds:]

[The woman scoffs.

They’re shoplifting.]

[ Apparently whoever planned out the layout of this place decided the liquor aisle should be next to family planning and as Faye starts to head for the checkout line, that familiar tall, one-eyed paleness catches her eye and she stops in her tracks. And, naturally, she has to walk over, a bottle of whiskey hugged to her chest, and a playful smirk on her face as she eyes his cart full of lube and condoms. ]

You must get a lot of looks with an impressive stockpile like that.

[Not quite startled he is, however, a bit surprised to see here in such a store and at such a time.

Then he sees the bottle and things instantly make sense.]

Not here, believe it or not. Suppose there's a reason involving mullets for that.
