Human beings are a strange animal. While their need for sex can be less all-consuming than certain other species, they have it a lot more often and in a lot more creative ways. Still, they're not animalistic, you know. They have morals and modesty and humility. That's why they don't run around rutting like wild beasts.

At least, that is, when they have something separating them and the rest of the animal kingdom.

This little bubble of the multiverse is no longer keeping that status quo. A lucky selection of inhabitants will find themselves a bit wilder than usual. Suddenly, there is a drive to fuck, fight, and procreate like never before. Some, the most affected, might have animal ears and tails. But even if some don't, all will be changed on the inside. Many here are "heat," and it can be sensed by everyone. Of course, this leads to the expected. Call of nature and all that, you know. Those in heat will be driven to offer themselves up, the urge to be bred extremely strong. Even to those with strong wills can't resist the siren song forever. Dominant personalities will become very dominant, and submissives will do anything to please their mates.

Sex isn't the only thing this mating season entails, however. There will also be the instinct to fight over mates, and then to protect the lover and the possible offspring growing inside them. Some might even have the desire to take multiple mates. You know, got to keep the line going. All in all, things might get a bit...hairy.

Just a few notes:
-This doesn't follow "traditional" gender/biology roles. Female characters can be alphas, male characters can get pregnant (if you wish), and same-sex couplings are perfectly viable.
-If your character has animal ears and a tail, that doesn't lock them to one certain species. For example, if a guy has dog ears, he can still mate with catgirls and such.
-Feel free to mix in other kinks, such as lactation for cowgirls and anything else you can think of. Noncon is also possible. Just be respectful of others' limits.
-You can leave your comment blank or come up with a basic set-up. However, it's probably helpful to put what kind of animal features (if any) your character has.]

Where are they?

[The young hobbit was currently riffling through his pack, tossing items out of it without his usual tact or care. The longer he searched, the more desperate he seemed to become to find the heat suppressants]

They have to be here! I know I packed them....

[His heart sank in his chest when he finally turned his pack inside out and found no sign of the suppressants. With a groan, he sank back onto his heels and slid his hands over his face.

His heat was showing signs of coming on sooner then he had expected. He'd noticed some of the dwarfs watching him a bit too closely for his own comfort. Fili and Kili had sniffed him this morning. It was all terribly embarrassing!]

[Bilbo has seemed distracted and strange all day, and Thorin's slightly concerned. His nephews seemed very giggly indeed when he asked them if they had any idea what might be wrong, and he had decided to ask the hobbit himself.

After all, if he was coming down with something, he could slow everyone down. They couldn't miss the Durin's Day mark.

A bowl of watery soup in hand, he wanders over to where Bilbo's emptying out his things.]

Have something to eat. What ails you?

[It was a bit odd, being looked after by the likes of Thorin. The exiled king had all but gone out of his way to shun and avoid Bilbo throughout their journey. At least up until the fight with Azog. It was something he was still getting used to.

Come to think of it, all this mess with his heat cycle coming on could be traced back to the hug Thorin had given him that day. Soon after that he'd noticed his scent gradually began to change. He came close to fainting from heat exertion this afternoon!

And of course he couldn't speak about matters like this to Thorin. Certainly not! These things were private and not to be discussed!

All he could offer Thorin was a gracious smile as he took the bowl of soup]

Nothing! Nothing at all. Why would you think something's wrong with me?

[Thorin had always found the hobbit strangely appealing, but just the simple fact that he is a hobbit has put him off slightly. He was too soft, too unfit. There was no point in coming to like him when the odds were he would never survive the journey.

But Bilbo had proved himself, over and over again. It wasn't really until he risked his life to defend the king's that Thorin had actually thought perhaps the little creature would make it all the way to Erebor.

That would be nice. He did like Bilbo an awful lot, even though he'd tried very hard not to.

He gives the hobbit in question a strange look.] You have been acting strangely all day. And you're pink. Tell me.

[masterburglar]

[Bilbo keeps his head bowed, pretending to find his bowl of soup more interesting then the dwarf king's demanding voice. Really, his ears were burning bright red. He'd never live this down. Never. Not to mention Thorin might just throw him out of the company if he proved to be ill and troublesome the next few weeks of their journey. Things would only get worse without the suppressants]

Well you see....it's a private matter. Personal, you might say.

[He was praying Thorin would drop this matter and go back to more important things]

I'd really rather not talk about it.

[breakofday]

[They've made camp for the night and the watch has already been assigned. There isn't really anything else to do. Thorin sits down beside him, and is abruptly struck by a wave of...something.

How does Bilbo smell this good when they've been traveling?]

I owe you a life debt. You would dishonour me by not giving me a chance to repay it.

[masterburglar]

[Bilbo might have edged a bit further away from Thorin. He saw it, that startled look that came over the dwarf's face. Thorin had caught his scent! Oh, this was beyond embarrassing!]

It's a hobbit matter.

[He heaves another long, suffering sigh]

Every so often, hobbits go into heat. I don't know if dwarves do the same thing, but essentially it's just my body's way of saying I'm fertile....and ready to mate.

[He wants the ground to swallow him up right now. Anything would be better then this]

I had suppressants, but it seems I've lost them somehow.

[breakofday]

[If Thorin had known anything of hobbits and their mating habits, he would have done his best to back off with Bilbo in said condition.

Unfortunately, he didn't. And now he's breathing in that scent, almost dizzy with it.]

...I see. [A beat] Is it...uncomfortable?

[masterburglar]

[Bilbo just looked extremely, unbearably uncomfortable. He was not at all happy to be having this conversation with the likes of Thorin, who was a man he respected and revered.

It's just....his body was betraying him. In the end, he knew that relief would only come if he allowed someone to mate with him, but he'd never dare dream of assigning such a task to Thorin!]

Very and this is only the beginning stages of it.

[There would be a lot of trouble when he was fully settled into his heat]

You don't have to worry about me. I'll handle this. It's a hobbit matter, after all. I'll try not to slow you guys down...

[breakofday]

I could help.

[The words fall from his lips before he can catch them, and hover awkwardly in the space between the dwarf and hobbit for a moment.

He doesn't regret saying it, though perhaps he could have been a bit more tactful.]

[Those were three words he had never thought to hear from the likes of Thorin. Nope. He was so surprised that he choked on his last spoonful of soup. His eyes went wide and now the redness of his ears seemed to sink into his cheeks as well]

I can't ask that of you! We'd have to....share a bedroll.

[That was hobbit talk for 'fuck like rabbits']

[breakofday]

[Something like a smile pulls at the corners of Thorin's lips.]

I am aware of that.

[A thought occurs to him, and he frowns.] You say it like it would be a burden.

[masterburglar]

No, no. It's only....I hadn't thought - I didn't -

[He wasn't making any sense, mostly just babbling. Unable to finished such a simple sentence for fear of angering Thorin somehow]

We'd have no privacy, Thorin.

[There were twelve other dwarves lurking nearby, merely a few feet away, actually]

I shouldn't think you'd want them all to know you were...sharing a bed roll with a hobbit.
