He loves to flirt.

( truth is, Calanthe doesn't like bars so much. they're noisy, ugly places, carved into spaces underground. Central always spoke about how important it was to keep one's wits about them, to avoid alcohol, and it's one of the few lessons she tends to take seriously. and bars make that so much harder. their low lighting messes with perspective, the music drowns out conversations she should be eavesdropping on, and the whole place smells like booze and sweaty bodies.

gross.

but she has a job to do, and showing her discomfort — whether with this place or with how much she's straining her bad eye to work properly (the eyepatch would be too conspicuous here, even without her usual added floral touch) — is out of the question. luckily, fake smiles come easy, and look more genuine in the dim lights, and the bartender is too busy with customers to look any more closely at the young woman with the stark white hair and blood red dress as she settles into her place next to a dark haired young man.

she leans on the bar, rests her chin in her hand, and casts a glance towards him, as outwardly cheerful as ever. )

[ unlike her, Dark was something of a frequent visitor to places like this. usually, it was to listen in on the local goings-on (made easier by his unique talent for going unnoticed), to find less-than-reputable work, or to try and sway someone to offering him a better deal. then again, once in a while he's just a patron - he has his own sorrows to drown, his own memories to bury, and while it might not always be advisable to drink oneself into a stupor...

well, what Dark does is not always advisable.

what his intentions are this evening remains to be seen - he does have a glass in front of him with some whiskey (neat, of course), but he doesn't seem to have lost his senses or gone overboard. whether that's because this is a night for business, or because the night is still too young, one would have to wait and see.
