The Dragon's Bride

Flames, then ash. Your village will be left with little else should the dragon that plagues the countryside not get his demanded sacrifice...if you're lucky. Your good fortune turns south, the bones of your neighbors (or whatever else remains of them) litter a new charred graveyard that was once a town. So, the necessary offers must be made. At least that's the hope. The alternative would be too awful to contemplate. In a last-ditch effort to save those you love — or against your will, as these things tend to go with forcibly created martyrs — you have been hoisted onto the pyre, waiting for the dragon to fly off with you. What terrors race through your mind as your doom impends? How you'll end up in a beast's belly, no doubt. Except, you must consider this: there are worst fates than being a dragon's next meal. A monster that covets you as its treasure...a new type of danger unfurls its wings. You've become a dragon's bride. But could such an infernal creature ever learn to know honest, unselfish affection? Is it possible to be more than a "spouse?" A mere treasure? Perhaps, you could learn to be a dragon's love. HOW TO PLAY ✗ Comment with your character, roles ("dragon" or "bride") prefs, etc. ✗ Y'all know how this goes. Approach "dragon" as a stand-in. The monster mash could be elves, orcs, goblins, werewolves, demons, dwarves, fey, purple people eaters, what have you. Of course, actual dragon and shifters folks are welcome, too! And don't think that you have to make your boring human a boring ol' human. Consider this the monster/supernatural being/cryptid/creature AU of your dreams! ✗ Second verse, same as the first, "bride" registers as gender-neutral 'round these parts. That word choice just sounds a touch more poetic. ✗ Reply to others.

[For Jin Guangyao, I'd say his father trying to get rid of him would be powerful motivation of the Jin Clan to offer him up. He's expendable to Guangshan.

For dragon, well, dragons like like to hoard power. Could be some merit to snatching a clan leader, especially the one clan leader who could wield some control over the Yling Patriarch.

He wasn't even pacing when the men were dragging their captor up to the ledge of his dwelling. No, instead he stood there, waiting, his eyes glaring down at the three of them while the one in the middle struggled. Everyone in the area knew who he was so he decided at this time, there was no need to show his true form. Everyone was intimidated by a dragon, anyway. It was something else to be intimidated by a dragon who wore the skin of a man, so to speak.

The guards didn't even make it into the mouth of his home before they kicked the other in the middle of their back, shoving them inside his home while they scrambled down the mountain path. He heard a skittering of stones and a faint shriek. One of them must have stumbled on the narrow ledge. Pity. He looked tasty. He preferred his meals intact and not splattered on the rocks.

But now he had a different issue to deal with. Normally, when the patriarchs of the gentry wanted to placate him, they offered virgin females, which... whatever. If the humans wanted tradition, they could have it. But the one before him was decidedly not female. It didn't make him any less beautiful even if there was a scrape on his temple and a smudge of dirt on his cheek. As always, they dressed his meals in the prettiest of wrappings, the finest silks that their gold could afford. In this case, it appeared they actually turned the gold to silk itself for the adornment.

He stood there at the opening of the cave, waiting. They always spoke first, begging for their lives and promising things that they would never, ever be able to provide. It was all so boring and frankly, he was tired of the games. Maybe he should just eat this one and pillage the city anyway. It would be a different thing to do. Less boring.

The dragon remained where he was, standing so still it was questionable if he breathed as the violet eyes continued to examine his next quarry.

Guangyao had stood there in shocked horror when his father had informed him of his role, the betrayal of it rooting him to the spot. After everything he'd done in the Sunshot Campaign. He'd risked his life for his place in his clan. Made an enemy out of a sworn brother. And in the end, they'd deemed his life worthless. It wasn't until he felt the binds being slipped around him that he had started to struggle and it was in vain. He felt a sick sense of satisfaction when one of his captors fell. Served the ingrates right.

He sat up trying not to start shaking though he was not successful. Jin Gunagyao raised a large pair of frightened eyes to scan his surroundings. They'd sealed his meridians, of course. Otherwise, his guqin or Hensheng would already be in his hands. His eyes fell on gaze that seemed carved from pure amethyst and he gasped.

"Beautiful," he whispered, not expecting to see that.

Realizing, he'd spoken aloud, his cheeks colored. Hopefully the dragon wasn't immune to flattery. Well, it wasn't empty flattery. He was expecting a wild beast, not a handsome looking young man who looked like he was carved from jade and obsidian. Dragons really were a whole other level. Gunagyao suddenly felt extremely inadequate.

He hadn't expected that. While afraid, the man still spoke. And by spoke, it wasn't begging for his life. He tilted his head slightly, examining the young man. And then he smirked, quirking a brow.

"Were you expecting an ugly beast?" He found the entire situation amusing. How often had he greeted his newest captor in his human form? Maybe he should do it more often if he was going to get a conversation out of them. But while he was willing to converse, he was not willing to free the human, either. Humans were tricky things and the last thing he was going to do was underestimate them. "I can shift if that would complete your expectations."
