Personal hygiene is just that - personal. By the time we've come to a point in our lives where we notice that the concept exists and we should be prudent about it, we can take care of ourselves. There are also many practical reasons why we don't involve other people in this process. We're not too keen on showing off parts to be cleaned that are private in most contexts, and there's definitely an ingrained aversion to showing so much soft, fleshy skin. Hot water or a sharp razor could spell dangerous with a capital D should they come into the hands of someone with a vendetta against you. No need to be extra vulnerable.

So, if you're involving another person in your cleansing routines, it must be someone you trust. Not only that, but it's most likely someone you're comfortable with and likely at least somewhat open to being intimate with. You may not be dropping all your clothing in front of them, but it's still you opening yourself up to touching and closeness unparalleled in more "usual" moments.

Established and burgeoning couples (or not-so-couples) can bond through this showing of care and good faith. Will you like being pampered and find the attention endearing? Or will things go terribly, terribly wrong?

1. Comfort: You've decided to pitch in a helping hand to get your partner to unwind, and warm water or suds may do the trick.
2. Romantic: The sole purpose of this endeavor is to set a lovey-dovey mood. No shame here!
3. It Started Out Platonic...: What a good pal you are, volunteering to give your friend a good scrub. Of course, you didn't count on the cute way she squirms as you scrub her back or how he blushes when you shampoo his scalp.
4. No Choice: Currently, you're unable to clean yourself up. That means that you need assistance, and it might as well be the person you lov- tolerate the most.
5. Open: You have trust issues. Actually, you have backlogs of trust issues. Still, you want to show the person you love that you're willing and trying to change for them, and what better way than letting down your walls and having the assist in your grooming?
6. Shave: Whether it's your face, your legs, or...your other places you've decided to shave, there's a certain intimacy involved in letting your lover do it for you. Let's hope they won't leave you looking like you got into a battle with a book with the paper cuts to prove it.
7. Reluctant: They want to get you clean. You don't want to show off your body at all. It's injured, it looks weird, what if they don't like it...
8. Forced: You love them, you really do, but you won't kiss them if they continue to look like an unwashed hobo clown. You have to draw the line somewhere, and if they won't take action, you will.
9. Beat Up: You've been trampled in a fight. Your partner isn't about to let you wallow around in your own mud and blood.
10. Hair: Some find that there's nothing quite as soothing as getting their hair washed or brushed. Of course, those with more luxurious locks may find any hair care a burden, so the assistance is appreciated.
11. Make Up: They think you're beautiful already. See how they'll paint you up when they get the chance.
12. Unique: If you're not human, you probably have your own proceeders you have to do to keep all spiffied up. There are wings with stray feathers to pluck, horns on heads to polish, scales to shave down, all sorts of tasks! Introduce your ignorant (and most likely human) boyfriend or girlfriend to your world...and your pain.
13. Accommodations: Those with disabilities or prosthetics may also have their own routines, and anyone who wants to be with them should learn how to pitch in.
14. Sponge Bath: You don't have enough water to do this right or you just want to give them a nice rub and scrub with a gentle sponge or wash cloth.
15. Wound Care: In order for wounds to heal, proper care must be taken. Bandages have to be changed and cuts cleaned out. It's certainly easier when you don't have to do it all by yourself.
16. Together: You're both cleaning up, taking a bath, splish splash, in the same tub because there's no where else to go. This is the most likely smut option, even if, again, it starts off "platonic."
17. Clothing: Don't forget that clean clothes are an important part of personal hygiene. Always make sure your partner has a nice, fresh outfit, even if it's to your taste and not theirs.
18. I've Made a Terrible Mistake: Somehow, everything's now shit. This little experiment went haywire and you may be sporting anything from the worst hairdo of your life to a Columbian necktie.

[1. Reign's take on historicity is very loose. Nostradamus would have been in his 50s in the time period shown in the show, but...hah, no. He's shown to be more of a scientific thinker (but one with deep faith) than the astrologer he was. But he still has visions--never ones that would keep himself out of trouble, of course.

Tbh I'm quite intrigued to see these two together, and I'm considering the possibility of Cassandra being given as a gift of sorts from the Ottoman Sultan to Catherine de Medici as a way to introduce her in the verse. Do you think that works? Also I'm intrigued by the idea of 5, I think it would be a nice way for them to get to know each other. And don't worry! ( Russell truly loved his doctor, and all the secrets he promised. But those could wait. One look at this man and his unkempt oily hair, pale and drawn features, smudges of ink and who knows what else about his person, and Russell had decided then and there to abscond him to his personal bath.

It was elaborate, expensive, and a room out of time. His instructions for his were-slaves had been simple: 'heated Roman bath, but make it indoors'. They'd done their best to accommodate his demands. It was set underground as much as possible, deep enough for a man to disappear wholly underwater, surrounded it with candles, steps, shelves for soaps. It was magnifico. He'd rewarded them well upon the pool's completion. It was to this room he led Victor by the hand. Once given permission under morphine-induced stupor, the vampire all too happily used any excuse possible to hold and touch his new mortal toy. )

Rooms off to the side, if you have need of modesty. Your clothes will be laundered and cared for while we pamper ourselves. When you are ready, you shall join me.

( Russell was naturally shameless. He releases Victor's hand and already began stripping off his formal wear and handing the items to a dutiful wait staff nearby. Victor could do the same or tend to the act more privately. The vampire was naturally curious to see which option he'd choose. )

[She'd been given to Catherine, who had almost immediately told Nostradamus to take care of her. The seer of the French court is a tall, dark-eyed man who seems to loom over her, his gaze thoughtful. His voice is hoarse and raspy, a low rumble that doesn't sound unkind despite the tone.]

After such a long journey, I'm certain you would appreciate an opportunity to clean up. Yes?

[France was something too new for her. Too far from home, a cold place. And yet she had known she would end up here. With this man who towers over her and yet feels quite kind.

It still takes her a moment to understand what he is saying, but she nods, speaking with a soft voice quite heavy with her accent.]

[She does look up at him for a moment, surprised at the suggestion at first, but she does look down quite quickly before nodding again, hoping he did not notice the blush tinting her cheeks.]

[Victor hadn't been all too certain when Russell has arrived at his home and summarily whisked him away. He'd be so surprised by the sudden visit and the rapid departure that he'd had little time to react. Once in a carriage, it seemed silly to protest.

Russell has been nothing but kind to him. He's not dragged him into anything dangerous, hasn't had Victor risking his life and whatever remains of his sanity. His mind has already started to associate the man with safety. He's safe. He's secure. He can go along with Russell and trust him.

He, of course, is surprised that he's brought to where he assumes the much older man lives. Victor's natural insatiable curiosity calls to him to explore this place. It's even more grand than Sir Malcolm's Grandage Place. As it is, he has little time to explore as it seems there are places they need to be.

Places that appear to be baths. Victor has a wash basin at home. He has whatever water he carries up. He has the bathhouses of he's feeling particularly disgusting. Even those packed public baths pale in comparison to what he stands before. He's so taken by the utter extravagance of it, he hasn't noticed his hand being released until he sees Russell starting to uncloth.

As a doctor, the naked body doesn't bother him. He's seen far too many to react in blushing shame. Instead, there's something a little clinical about his gaze a moment before he turns his back. Not out of shame or any sort of social obligation, but because there's still so much to look at.]

I'll return then. [He'll find one of those rooms, because even the public baths give some modesty. That and he doesn't want his clothing ruining such a nice bath. Better he leave them in that other room and return with a towel wrapped daintily around a narrow waist, only held up by the prominent hip bones. The too pale skin marred in the insides of his arms by those tell-tale bruises. He tries very hard not to compare his sparse chest hair to the manly thatch Russell sports. He is only slightly ashamed because he's so obviously unhealthy under his cloths. Delicate and worry. More sharp angles and hollow spaces than there should be. Ethan Chandler he is definitely not.]

It's stupendous, Russell.

[ Yet he doesn't go to Russell. Instead, he pads his way to the plumbing to examine it, a boyish smile on his face and gears almost visibly turning in his head as he works out the miracle of indoor heated water. If he's not stopped, he'll fiddle with the taps for the next few minutes, leaving Russell with a nice view of his far too prominent spine and the tempting hint of flesh the top of his rear as he bends to examine the bath and the white towel shifts just so.]
