The Bedtime Meme

In the great green room, there is a telephone and a red balloon, and a picture of
The cow jumping over the moon,
And there were three little bears sitting on chairs,
And two little kittens and a pair of mittens,

And a comb and a brush and bowl full of mush,
And a quiet old lady who was whispering "hush".

4. Have fun and be mindful of your partner's preferences--while this is not inherently a smut meme, it could definitely turn that way.

OPTIONS:

1. Washing up for Bed: You and your partner have had a long day, and now it's time to wash it all off. Don't forget to scrub behind your ears!

2. Bedtime Story: Some people just can't get to sleep without some sort of story. It can be a familiar book, or even a story of your partner's life.

3. Warm Milk and Cookies (or Chamomile Tea): A warm drink and a few cookies in the belly are just what some people need to relax before bed.

4. Pajamas: What (if anything) you wear to bed says a lot about your personality. Dressed to impress or totally relaxed?

Jamie fell asleep on the couch.

He didn't mean to, he'd been watching something while Coda worked. He doesn't really know how long he was out, either, but when he wakes up, Coda is... still in the exact same position. Jamie rubs his hair as he sits up, then slips off the couch. He leans against Coda's back and wraps his arms around them, not even looking at the screen.

"It's late," he murmurs. "Let's go to bed."

"You go ahead. I'll be there after I finish the UV mapping for this fireplace. I can't get the texture right and keep running into distortion issues."

Their voice, even by their standards, is a bit of a monotone, and they almost don't seem to register the hug. Hyperfixation is a hell of a drug.

"Coda. You've been at it for hours."

Jamie glances down, then stands up so he can slowly pull the chair back until the keyboard and mouse are no longer within reach. He slides himself between Coda and the desk.

"It'll be here when you wake up. And I hate sleeping alone."

They blink up at him blearily, and perhaps the reason why they're having trouble doing the thinking thing becomes obvious. There are major bags under their eyes, gaze only half-focused.

"I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep, with it incomplete like this."

"Then just lay down with me for a while."

Jamie is kind of hoping that once Coda is somewhere comfortable, they'll feel as tired as they look. He steps closer and strokes his fingers through Coda's hair. He tips their head up and leans down to kiss them.

"Please?"

Because apparently he has decided that he's spending the night.

Coda slowly uncurls and stands, with the sort of slowness of someone whose legs fell asleep several hours ago. "Just for a little bit. I shouldn't let this sit too long."

Oh, they're definitely going to crash hard, given half the chance.

"Okay."

He reaches to steady Coda as they unfurl and get to their feet. Then he gently steers them toward the bedroom.

"Do you have pjs you really like?" he asks as they cross the threshold. He's never actually been in Coda's room before.

The room is as straightforward, clean, and practical as the rest of their home, the bedding in shades of grey, the walls white. The furniture is all modern, clean lines, and there's no art on the walls or other real 'decor'.

"Promise you won't think I'm weird?"

Before they get an answer, they open the bottom drawer of their dresser to reveal a collection of colorful pajama bottoms, ranging from thin silky palazzo-style pajama pants to plaid flannel types.

"Promise," he assures. Jamie is never judgmental about clothes.

Well. Not like this.

He crouches down to look through what Coda has. Jamie quite likes what he sees, actually: he appreciates someone with an eye for color. He peers back at them, lifting a delicate brow.

"Any favorites though? Or do I get to pick?"

[ Maeve stands up with an exasperated sigh and puts her hand on her hip, the apartment around her is completely trashed; tables upside down, couch cushions zipped open and torn apart, food from the cupboards all over the floor ]

Homelander, I swear I've literally turned this place upside down. I can't find it.

"You know what? Yes, you can pick." They sit back from the drawer, letting Jamie examine each and every pair of pajama pants.

(Shirts will be simple--they have a small collection of plain colored t-shirts to pair with the pajama pants. Perhaps the only time Jamie might see them in bold colors, actually.)

"Go brush your teeth or something," he says with a smile over his shoulder. "Whatever your bedtime routine is."

Though he is starting to suspect that the routine is more like... pass out, wake, work, repeat. He sorts through Coda's things until he finds what he wants: a particularly soft t-shirt and a pair of the palazzo-style pajama pants in a matching color. He lays them out on the bed, then sits on the edge of it. It feels comfortable, at least.
