Well, you've lucked out; you have your own servant! But what if that whole "taking care of your every need" concept went even further?

Instead of just tucking you into bed, you have a maid or butler who'll go to bed with you and not only to give you someone to cuddle with. After all, it is their life's work to serve you.

AU: You've had or been a servant all your life; perhaps the two of you even grew up with each other, one of you "indebted" to the other. Or you just got hired the normal way, of course!
SUDDEN: Congratulations, you've come into the service of some hired help. Use them as you will, the tab's not on you.
ROLEPLAY: This isn't really a business transaction. You're both playing pretend.

Turn of the Century AU
He had specifically told xiongzhang that he did not need a servant. He was perfectly capable of taking care of himself at Jingshi Manor. He could dress himself, feed himself, shop for himself. Do it all himself. Especially as an adult. So there was no reason for he nor for uncle to be concerned.

Wangji made his way down the grand staircase and down to the foyer where the new help was already making themselves at home, loudly commenting on how neat and orderly the Jingshi already was and that there would not be so much work to be done. By the time he reached the bottom step, he regarded his new help with an unemotional stare.

He slowly lowered the book he had been reading after the entire scene was explained to him. Wangji may have seemed as if he hadn't been paying attention as he gave little indication beyond a non-committal sound here and there.

Wei Wuxian had no real interest in being a servant to some rich aristocrat. But he needed money and couldn't stay on the streets any longer. At least this would give him a place to stay as well as food as long as he behaved himself enough to actually do some work. What he found was that the place hardly looked like it needed more help. Which meant less for him to do and that was definitely okay with him.

He was just elbowing one of the other new people next to him when someone started to descend the stairs. He looked up and he couldn't help admire the way the young lord seemed to float towards them with an ease and confidence that he wasn't used to seeing with the people he normally ran around with.

When the man approached, he flashed a smile at him without even realizing he was probably already breaking protocol. "Are you the lord of the manor we were told about? It's nice to..OOMPH.." He doesn't get to finish as the person next to him he had just been elbowing gave him a sharp jab to the side to try and shut him up.

So xiongzhang had sent a few. By the time Lan Zhan reaches the floor, he regards all of them with a cool stare. One, however, seems to take this as a leave of speaking. Immediately, he turns to him, letting him prattle on before one of the others decided it was wise to have him silent.

"You all will be paid for one month's employment but will not be needed here. In the meantime, I suggest looking for other employ as my brother does not seem to understand that I am perfectly capable of running my own household."

He gives a curt nod of his head, watching as a few look to each other, confused, before leaving. Lan Zhan stares down the one that had been so vocal, waiting for him to also depart.

He watches as the others leave, confused as to how they would give up so easily. He really doesn't see this guy as all that intimidating and he certainly isn't going to just leave when he has been given a job. He folds his arms in front of his chest and tilts his nose up slightly.

"If you didn't need help then he wouldn't have hired us. So obviously you do and are just too stubborn to admit it."

So he probably shouldn't be talking to the owner of the manor in such a way..the person who is his boss but also the one who technically just fired him..but he has never been good with following rules.

Arrogant. Lan Zhan's eyes narrow a little at just how mouthy this one is.

"I have given you and the others an allowance to assist in seeking employ elsewhere," he says steadily. "Please accept it as the others have and go about your day."

The others seemed to be satisfied with this deal. Why is this one not? While it is true that Lan Zhan could be described as...stubborn....this is a matter that he knows best. With him taking on his mother's former residence, Lan Zhan knows how to best run it.

Wei Wuxian isn't one to just get tossed aside so easily. Even if the man had given them some sort of severance, he had a hard enough time finding this job to begin with. He's not so anxious to start the hunt all over again. Besides this guy didn't even give him a chance and that bothers him. He doesn't like when people are so arrogant.

"I'm not interested in being paid for something I didn't do. If you are going to pay for a month, then I'm going to stay and work it."

There are many rules to the Lan family. Rules that the family holds themselves, their spouses, their children, and, in some cases, their staff to. Rumors had circulated that the rules were somewhere in the thousands.

"As I have said, I am perfectly capable of running my own household."

The Jingshi is pristine with nary a painting out of place nor blade of grass too tall. Lan Zhan likes it this way and is very particular in how his home looks.

"Then the one you should be arguing with is that brother of yours since he sent out the request for help." He waves his finger at the other man, all propriety gone. If Wei Wuxian knew of the rules then he simply didn't care and probably already broke five of them just be stepping foot in the building.

"Now I am here and I'm not going anywhere." Just because he can't see anything that needs fixing or cleaning doesn't mean he can't find something to keep himself occupied with. He actually isn't sure he would be very good at cleaning but he would figure out some way to get things done. Certainly the place isn't as meticulous as it looks.

He starts to walk around the room as if hunting for a even a grain of dust.

It is. Lan Zhan watches him as he begins to walk around the foyer.

"Why do you insist on staying?" he asks.

He sincerely doubts that this person has any particular skill set that would be helpful for him. Lan Zhan clutches at the sabre at his side, Bichen, to ground himself. Why does this one insist on staying around? There has to be a reason. It can't be the money, it can't be the work.

"Now I want to stay because you don't want me to." No reason to lie about his motives.

He reaches out to touch something that looks particularly interesting and probably expensive. In the beginning he was here because he wanted a place to sleep and food. Those reasons are still in tact but now he also just feels like harassing this man. It's not like he is going to admit that he doesn't have anywhere else to go.

Lan Zhan walks into the study and pulls out the tome that includes the Lan family's rules. He sets it down on the table, wondering if this annoying gremlin of a man would follow.

"The Lan family has a high standard of conduct. You will study and copy down the rules a hundred times until you understand them."

Hopefully, the inane task would deter him from staying.

He does follow and then stares at the far too thick list of rules. He walks over to the desk and flips through the rules. His eyebrow quirks up further with each rule he reads. "You had to deal with all of these growing up? How did you function?" There is probably even a rule about breathing that he is breaking right now.

"It really wouldn't take copying them a hundred times to understand them. Pretty sure I could recite them just by reading it once." Not that he wants to do even that but if he is going to get paid to do it then he might as well. But he is smart enough that it doesn't take much for him to remember something as simple as rules.
