Reverse Beauty and the Beast

REVERSE BEAUTY & THE BEAST MEME

Though it remains a beloved fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast itself has perhaps become a tired trope. Its inspiration is far-reaching and you can find stories based on it in many corners of the fictional world. Though these tales vary, one facet is almost always the same: the beastly character always falls in love with the beauty, and the beauty has to learn about the beast's innermost good qualities. And why not? Could the beauty ever fall for the beast on looks alone? They're a beast!

...but what if the beauty fell in love with the beast because of the way they looked? What if the beauty was the one who had to worry about if they were good enough, or if they weren't the right type? And, most importantly, what if the beauty didn't want the beast to ever change?

HOW TO PLAY

Comment with your character, preferences (no smut, etc), whether they're beauty or beast, etc.
Reply to others.
RNG for prompts.

PROMPTS

Meeting: Whether the meeting is against your will, as it is in the traditional tales, or you go out of your way to meet the "beast," it is what it is.
Falling: Maybe you expected this. Maybe you didn't. But you're falling for a beast - and it's not all for what they have inside.
Swooning: They're so beautiful! How unique, and you've grown so tired of the same old, same old.
Who is the Beauty: What if you are hardly beautiful in their eyes? If they're a different species, they might have an entirely different standard, or they may just think you're too normal.
Not What They Like: The above, realized. Sorry, they just can't be attracted to someone like you. You're actually the beastie in their eyes.
Confession: They may not be used to having affection directed towards them, so this may be a new experience for both of you.
Fluff: Kissing, hugging, dates, taking them out, touching them, mending wounds, personal hygiene help, and all of that.
Smut: The obligatory smut option, and any problems, inconveniences, or drama or lack thereof that come with it.
Rejection: Actually, they could never love you like that, so you're in for a heart break.
Defense from the Mob: You'll stand up for your beloved beast, in contrast to them going berserk should outsiders disapprove.
...I Liked You Better Before: Somehow, some way, the beastly half of the couple has changed and become more conventionally attractive, as is wont to happen in these sort of stories. Only problem? You aren't attracted to them now.

[ not a physical Beast (unless after a messy battle perhaps) but the shoe still fits. considering how much of her life has been about what other people want/expect of her, it'd be nice to have someone more interested in accepting her as she is - or trying to - than insisting she change to fit a conventional role. ]

[ The beast; in D&D, Yuan-ti (serpentfolk) are seen as universally cold and calculating and incapable of love, fear, and friendship. Rio himself fits that to a degree, but it's more accurate to say that he's pragmatic and prideful.

In addition to that, Rio has undergone a fair bit of snake body horror in his campaign, and is more snake-like than he was when he was born, so he has some hang-ups about that—he likes being praised but hates not feeling pretty. There are some deets and refs in his journal. ]

Universes had cracks in them. Who could know of such things? He certainly hadn't, when he'd...fallen. Or been transported, was perhaps the better way to put it. A mysterious man, in red armor, in a place he could barely understand. He was fortunate, in the end, that they spoke the same language.

Because she hadn't just found him, laying in that field, wracked by the pain of...whatever had happened to him. The homestead she'd brought him to was, at least, thankfully remote. She had made sure he didn't die, which he was grateful for, but...her kindness, her entire manner was strange to him.

He didn't warrant that, not with who he was and what he'd done. With the blood that was on his hands. Not a monster, perhaps, but he knew what he was - a beast, and a killer. And as her kindnesses became something more, and as he found himself drawn to her despite himself, he tried all the more to push free of that which was ensnaring him.

He wore 'native' clothes, in the moment, chopping wood for a fire. She had asked, and so he was doing so. And trying to use the simple, repeating motion to untangle the mass of thoughts that wracked him.

Daylight would soon give way into evening, and it looked as if it would be a chilly one. The request for the firewood would help both with their supper and their night, though Olivia realized she'd asked him to do so quite some time ago... At the pace he was working, he likely would have chopped the entire forest by now.

Of course, she was considerate. Perhaps to a fault. She let him release whatever steam or tension seemed to plague him since early that morning, where her gentle but curious eyes could not catch his for even a moment to try and find the right time to inquire. But — it was getting a little ridiculous at this point. Two people hardly needed that much firewood.

"Kir?"

She approached him quietly from behind, but made sure that her presence was known far before she even spoke out. Stepping on dry twigs, crunchy leaves — she even cleared her throat a little.

"Supper's ready."

Supper had... been ready.

He started, but she'd...she'd done the smart thing. He paused, looking to her.

"What?"

He looked back to what he'd been doing. A massive pile of logs had been neatly quartered, and stacked. He'd done it on autopilot. He looked down at his hands, red and raw from holding the axe. It always ended in red, didn't it? He sighed, burying the axe in the stump and pushing back moist hair from his face.

"I'm...sorry. I lost track of time. I'll be right in."

And he chastised himself for this, too. She was too good of a heart to deserve dealing with him, or the ghosts wandering through his head.

[Want a thing with an AU'd-in uncommonly Force-gifted street punk who gets wrapped up with a Problematic teacher (who also hits all his soft spots for nurturing treatment), but is also stubbornly both loyal and well-intentioned ~~and kinda dumb but still not half as dumb as Anakin~~, and also drags her toward the light? Massive anger and fear to work with in him, but also tons of compassion and a strong sense of justice.]
