Hall of Mirrors: You and your partner entered, thinking it would be easy to get out again, but dead ends abound in this wacky mirror-maze, and each mirror seems to show a more and more distorted image of each of you. 8. Fortune Teller: Whether one of the creepy machines or the even creepier women dressed up in a culturally insensitive costume, you cross someone's palms with silver and get your future told. With another giggle, she finally locates a pen and signs her name on the napkin.

"Well, unfortunately I can't say you're the first. I was in a musical at school once and I signed a few programs." She snickers. "Students got extra credit for going and getting a signature from someone in the show."

"Boo," she replied, but carefully put the napkin in her purse. "But that being said, I should warn you I'm an unrepentant scrapbooker, so at least it'll be kept."

"All right, but you've gotta show me that scrapbook sometime."

She nodded. "Done and done. I'm not sure who I got my Packrat genes from. I suspect it's Dad, but he's better at hiding it."

She chuckled.

"In any event, I suspect you'll have enough exploits to make it a pretty thick one."

"I don't doubt it." She paused a moment to take a sip of her drink. "You'll be including this visit in the scrapbook, I hope?"

"It feels like a vacation for me, too, so you bet I will be."

"I've never quite had a time like it. And not in a long time, even if I had."

"I know what you mean. It's like any downtime we do get is just biding our time until the next crisis, y'know?"

"Ugh, yes, I feel that so much," she replied.

She shook her head, laughing briefly.

"Do your foes, at least, not go in for the crazy huge nonsense? Like, airships full of toxins kinda nonsense?"

She snorted. "I dunno, does revealing Mutants to the whole world or trying to rule humanity count?"

"I thought you might like that."

Jenny smiled and snugged right up close to him, she turned enough to nuzzle softly against his cheek before the little boat started forward with a not entirely smooth lurching motion.

"If this gives me nightmares I am going to blame you."

She snickered.

"Yeah, especially the last half. We've had a couple of those putzes. They're all dramatic speeches and 'Titanic Destruction Will Rain Down' sorts."

He shifted position, so his arms could go around her, drawing her into him all the more.

"Do they? I've never been in one of these. Not actually sure what I'm supposed to do."

But they're alone. And she is so very close, and so very warm.

"I mean, I have some guesses..." he added, trailing off. He had some certain ideas, true. And if she looked into his eyes, she'd see a perhaps intoxicating mixture - mischief, love...and desire.

"For sure. And honestly, if they really wanted to do something, you'd think they'd spend less time talking about it."

She gestured with both hands at that, eloquently expressing 'finally, somebody GETS IT.'

"Yes, exactly! They just yak away, and end up botching their own plans! Over and over!"

"Seriously! Like, you might actually get something done if you don't waste time telling us what you're doing!"

[batgirl_babs]

"And it's the same ones that do the same things, too!" she added, visibly excited to finally get to talk about this.

"Like, ok, so Riddler's supposed to be going legit, right? But he starts leaving clues to his next crimes on live television! Same thing he does every night, Pinky, but right out in the open where every single potential juror on the planet can see it."

"Oh come on! What an ego on that guy, no wonder he keeps getting caught."

"Do you get that too? The 'I have to prove I'm cleverer/better than you' sort? Like it's not even just the monologues or the stupid, stupid costumes...but just that driving need to prove their superior?"

"I mean, sort of? There are plenty of Mutants that are so dead set on proving how much better we are than regular humans. Just because we have powers. I mean, c'mon, not everyone's powers are so great either."

[batgirl_babs]

"Yours, though," she said, eyeing a waitress coming their way. "Yours are the best."

She stopped before the woman got in earshot, and leaned back as a burger was slid in front of her, eyes visibly sparkling. And stomach audibly voicing its eagerness.

She waited a little as the waitress came over, her grin widening as the burger was placed in front of her. When the waitress left, Kitty started on a fry.

"Well..." she started, trying to go for modest. "I mean, it has its own problems, but...compared to some of the other powers I've seen, I kind of lucked out with mine."

She nodded. Kitty had talked to her about Rogue, and some of the others.

"I can understand that. But you could absolutely do the detective thing so well with them. Honestly, if I ever need somebody to fill in, all I'd do is teach you a couple rope tricks and get you a red wig. I mean, after asking super nicely, I mean."

She snickers a little. "I wouldn't mind. You'd probably have to train me a bit first though."

Finally it was time, and she picked up the burger to take a bite.

"...oh my god."

She grinned from behind her own before enjoying her own first bite. And enjoying less so the quick work of a napkin she had make afterwards.

"Told you," she trilled, with a wink.

With a suppressed laugh, she swallows her mouthful and nods. "Of course you're right," she replies. "That's probably one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had."
