[At least Dave has been able to accept himself enough to admit that he's gay to himself, or at least interested in some ass of the male variety. It's more than John has accomplished, his denial so heavy set that he's gone to lengths to convince himself that it's not gay with Dave, because Dave is just Dave. It's different, it has to be different, because if it's not then that does make him at least slightly homosexual, and that's not something he's ready to deal with yet.
He has more important things to think about now that he's finally gotten up anyway, such as what to say when Dave actually asks him what's up instead of rolling over and ignoring him. He realizes that he hadn't thought this far ahead, just following his heart across the hall instead of his brain, and his lips pull down into a little frown as well as he stares hard through the darkness at Dave's face.]
