Every knight needs a princess

your princess

It's fairly simple, really, no royalty required. One of you is the "princess:" sweet, gentle, possibly energetic, always full of life and innocence. The other is the "knight:" stoic, or at least serious about protecting that one special person, dedicated, strong, a fighter. And the two of you are in love, even if one...less expressive than the other. Together romantically or not, there's something that connects you, most likely a driving need to protect.

But don't let the normal conventions full you, the "princess" (or "prince," as it may be, because the terms here are gender neutral) is just as important. Someone has look to the emotional well-being and happiness of the "knight," and often, those "knights" need a lot of help.

[Midna's a princess in canon, so she's quite likely to be the princess here. But she's a spoiled, entitled, and bratty princess who likes to have her way.]

[The Twilight is admittedly significantly more lonely when one has become accustomed to companionship. Even Midna, who is begrudgingly accepting of the changes she has undergone in her travels with the Hero of Light, can admit this. If not aloud then at the very least to herself. To go from a life of what seemed like consistent adventure into one where she resumes her duties as the leader of her people, Midna is...

Well. It's an adjustment for certain. And not infrequently, she finds herself easily caught up in daydreams. (Or would they call them Twilight dreams considering there is no such thing as day in the world she is so intimately familiar with...?) Sometimes she thinks if she could have but a glimpse of the Hero and the Princess that she might be satisfied. She knows, in truth, that she would feel only a sliver of envy, potentially faced with a world she could never be in for long.

In the end, they are only thoughts. For her, they are so distant from reality that she can only entertain them in the quiet depths of her mind before they are eventually replaced with responsibility. To her, it seems this will be a constant. Until the day she finds that her thoughts are not as outlandish as she might have considered before.

It is the green that catches her attention. It is a day or night like any other. A quiet stroll that Midna takes in her solitude as she thinks about what must be done for her own. Improvements to be made. Lessons to be learned from the past. A subtle remorse for her cowardice and an appreciation for the support that still lingers in the Twili as they continue to call her 'Princess.' There is nothing special about it. But he stands out. He, a foreigner in a world he does not belong in. And she has no explanation as to how he has come to be here. Only that the resemblance is uncanny.

...Although something seems a little off about him. Something that warrants investigation.]

[Although this one is just as short, the spirit is leaner than their descendant, hair more pale and reddish, features larger and sharper; even their tunic is a brighter green like new leaves, even in the warm light of twilight. This isn't the stout goatherd Midna had adventured with, but something more supernatural.

Link turns to Midna as she called out, clearly mistaking them for their pupil. They don't open their mouth to verbalize, but speak the way spirits do.]
