Please, he begged whatever kept him here or there, let me be here enough for her. He concentrates on being as corporeal as he can, even just for a moment -- and for a moment, it's enough. Her fingers touch his, as delicately as the first time they did.

Haru was placed quite firmly under the "protect" category from the moment he met her. Some girls he can just tell at a glance he would feel sick to his stomach if he seduced them. Something immoral about it for various reasons. Haru may have gotten ingeniune charm at first, but the compliments he pays her now that she's truly a friend are all honest.

"Is there something on your mind? I'm your rapt audience if there's someone being dishonest with you that you need to complain about."

He knows damn well that isn't what she was getting at, but deflection comes too easy.

She sighs a little at the deflection and shakes her head, mostly to herself. "I wouldn't necessarily say that that's the case, but... I'd be lying if I said someone being dishonest with me had nothing to do with it."

She frowns.

"Sugimura's been sending letters again asking about what I'll do when the war's over... I haven't answered any of them and he hasn't taken the hint." She legitimately thought the man would have lost interest when her father passed and took any promises with him.

Well that's a lead up that makes Sylvain nervous, and re-fuels the fires of protective niisan energy inside his heart.

He stays silent, letting her work up to what he wants to say. She mentions her old betrothal and Sylvain feels his hackles rise. His grip on her tightens unconsciously.

"That delusional... does he think there was actually something there? Or does he just want the connection to your family even now? Of all the priorities to have, even now..."

It makes him livid, imagining that someone would try to pressure Haru into a loveless marriage for the sake of his own ambition, after everything she's been through.

"The connection, no doubt." She actually scowls at that. "My looks have something to do with it too, I suspect. I remember the way he looked at me the last time he and I saw each other." And that part is punctuated with a full-body shudder...

She huffs. "I want to knock all his teeth out." Among other things, but that seems like a nice place to start.

He can feel her shudder, and he knows right then and there that he will break this guy's face if he tries anything.

Then again, maybe he won't need to. Sylvain chuckles, a deep, slightly threatening sound. "Attagirl. These idiots are all the same. If he won't take a hint, say it with a weapon."

A pleased hum vibrates through his body. Were he a very large cat, one might mistake it for a purr. Too bad Haru can't see the killing intent turning his usually honey-brown eyes red.

"We should take care of this as soon as possible, in that case." A pause. "Well, I'd prefer to do so immediately, but we should probably wait until the war's over... Something to look forward to, I suppose."

[It's a warning and a plea at once, his eyebrows furrowing further as he sees her take in his pain and demand more. His fists clench at his sides but he still doesn't try to deny it, his yellow eyes watching her carefully.]

[She's made clear before that she doesn't appreciate being tied to him, so he's not sure where she is going with this. He will do whatever she requests, however, that much he knows.]

There's no use in feeling hopeless. Her concentration can go to better things - like making this real, like being able to feel each other, to be with each other, even if it lasts for no longer than a moment.

Rey doesn't feel anything but air. As they breach the distance between, her fingers touch his, and her breath hitches softly.

He wasn't breathing really, but there was some kind of physical and sensation memory enough that he can feel that if he were breathing he wouldn't be any longer. He's too afraid to do anything that might disturb whatever wavelength they've managed to hit that allows him to be there, really be there. Stars, she's warm. "Much as I can," he agreed quietly.

"I seem to remember someone telling me, 'kriffing touch me again and I'll tear your arm off.' Was that you, or BB-8?" He feigned actual curiosity.

"That - was a dream," she smirked clearly remembering exactly how hangry she had been in that particular instance, but certainly not about to relent. Instead she leaned up and kissed his cheek.

"That was a nightmare," he corrected jokingly. Sort of a joke. It was a little scary. Once she kisses his cheek, she turns his head to kiss her lips briefly.

Smiling against his lips Rey reached up to touch his cheek briefly. "It was just a dream, never happened. I'm wonderful all the time."
