Sometimes, to kill a monster, it took a sword, and a person to wield it. A weapon, whichever one you considered to be that. As far as Dust was concerned, that was his role, his only role. Protect Chise from the worst of things that sought her out because of her nature, and the magic that flowed through her.

He stood over the strange fairy-spirit-beast that had been the latest to hunger for her, poking at its remains with the Blade of Ahrah as they slowly dissolved. Not because he expected to find anything, but because he couldn't risk not looking. If he was lucky, she hadn't heard the sounds of conflict, wouldn't come to check out what he'd done...

The fingers of his free hand rubbed a spot just over his heart. Two layers of clothing and fur kept the image of a robin hidden, and so long as they did, he felt for sure he could keep her from noticing anything unusual about this working relationship...

Chise wouldn't dare call it a working relationship. Equally she wouldn't dare quite call it a friendship. Friendship was an ephemeral and tentative thing for her, not dared hope for but not quite rejected either. She longed for it as much as she longed for anything else, was jealous of it in others and despised that about herself as well.

She sort of knew what he did, in taking down the creatures that forever sought her out. She had been conflicted at first on how to address it and even now as she approaches and does note the lingering traces of the dissolving creature, she's still torn. She's grateful for the protection but equally it seems... harsh to kill them somehow.

"... You don't have to keep killing them, you know. I'm used to dealing with them."

She's not chiding him, just noting this fact.
