It was all too easy to tail John Watson. The man was clearly struck by the loss of his flatmate. Still, there was no pity from the man who followed him. Jim Moriarty was dead. Sherlock Holmes had robbed Moran of the right to kill the one responsible, which left one culpable piece to the puzzle.

John Watson. The man he had held in his sniper sights on a few occasions now. Each as unsatisfying as the last. Well, Moriarty had told him to leave John alive if Holmes took his dive. Sebastian had grit his teeth in irritation to watch him plummet. And his anger only rose at the discovery that his boss, too, had irrationally bit the bullet.

Moriarty always was an unstable sort of unsettling, but the fact remained. Jim was dead, Holmes was dead. John Watson was alive and breathing. And once more Sebastian Moran had no purpose.

Well to hell with that. He had a purpose now, and there it was walking predictably right back into the pub. Right on schedule, Watson. Your punctuality is blessedly predictable. He stamped out his cigarette on the pavement and strolled across the street with his hands in his pocket.

He entered the pub shortly a few minutes after John had, stepping up to the bar, between the Doctor and the door, and ordering himself a Bourbon.

John found it was easier to deal with Sherlock's death and the resulting slander of the departed detective if he was drunk. As such, going to the pub had become a nightly ritual. He drank until the numbness that had settled in his veins the day he'd watched Sherlock plummet off the roof was more from alcohol than unyielding grief. It wasn't the healthiest coping mechanism, but then he didn't particularly care.

Taking up his usual seat at the bar, he ordered straight vodka. He had absolutely no idea he'd been tailed, or that he'd been repeatedly held in the sights of a gun by a sure-shot that rivaled himself. The only thing that mattered was forgetting, albeit temporarily, and getting through another day in which he'd have to hear people call Sherlock Holmes a fraud.

She couldn't say no because it was genuinely a question, and not some faux-polite attempt at guilting a person into a date. Holmes was perfectly polite, of course, but he honestly seemed like he'd enjoy it if she accepted, but wouldn't be crushed if she declined. That fact alone made this whole thing utterly irresistible and something she had to agree to immediately.

Jane could hear all the unspoken layers in what would appear to be a very distilled proposition to anyone else: I respect your boundaries but would also love to spend an evening with you if you would allow me the pleasure. It's like he said it out loud. Jane found that yes, she would like to come over.

So after the splendid! Here's my address. 8:30, food optional part, Jane was called away to ride off with Lisbon in a cab. The trip was silent, save for Lisbon's relief to be away from Sherlock (she'd felt trapped, "I thought one of you was bad enough"), and a very unspoken comment on Jane's smirk.

God, the way he simply presented himself when she arrived! She could box him up and fly him back to Sacramento. Jane smiled because this was refreshing as hell. Talk about wonderful evenings- she was only in the doorway.]

Moran did not make a direct move to talk to Watson until he was a few drinks in. He was still nursing his first drink and he had since moved to sit on the bar stool when he was certain Watson had no plans to move to a new location. How he went about this was going to have to be a bit carefully monitored. He still had access to Jim's place. To all of Jim's things. And there were a good deal many of useful items stored away there.

When Sebastian finally turned in his seat and got a look at John 'for the first time, he offered a measured smile. Just enough to not peer unfriendly, and a nod.

"Looks like you're having a hard one, mate. Know the feeling." He drained the bourbon he had been nursing, tapping the bar with two fingers and gesturing to John.

"Another Bourbon. And the next one for this bloke's on me."

He didn't try to spark up a cheerful conversation after. Just settled a bit more comfortably into his chair and studied his glass, reminding himself to keep the pent up anger and frustration for later. He had all the time in the world now. What did he have left to do that he couldn't do whenever he pleased?

That first measured smile earned a twist of lips in response. He would have smiled back but there was no point in forcing something he didn't feel. Although the alcohol was already buzzing through his system, it wasn't enough to dull the constant ache of loss. John had just finished his drink when the man ordered another with one for him and he nodded his thanks as the bartender refilled his glass.

The actual reply, when it finally came, was more than a bit late. "Bit hard, yeah." Clearing his throat, which always threatened to close up any time he came even slightly close to mentioning Sherlock, he took a long gulp of the vodka, throwing it back like a pro.
