Ranpo had gotten into the habit of waiting behind as long as he could, so he and Fukuzawa could have just a bit of privacy together. It hasn't been too long since they officially became a couple, but to avoid a scandal at work, they've been keeping rather quiet about it... which really, was easier said than done when they literally work in a detective agency.]

[He knows Fukuzawa likely has a lot of work to finish before he can go home, which is why Ranpo is nice and quiet as he opens the door to his office and carefully closes the door behind him. With a cool stride, he approaches his desk and walks around behind it, arms held behind his back--]

( it's dark when he enters the cottage — nothing but the best blackout curtains money can buy — but behind it, the sun is just beginning to tickle along the horizon, orange-yellow rays striking through the deep midnight blue-black. it would be beautiful if it wasn't so nauseating. he drops his keys in a bowl by the door, his fingers lifting to pass over a hole in the stucco.

silver bullet. some young, inexperienced bounty hunter was mislead — as if a bullet would kill a vampire — then again, perhaps he mistook trevor for a werewolf. he is rather beastly at any given time of the day. at any rate, that hole was supposed to have been fixed two months ago; seems as if he'll have to do it himself since he can't count on a useless belmont for anything.

he sighs and shrugs off his jacket, draping it over the back of a chair before he rotates his arm to look at his ripped sleeve. annoying. he keeps losing clothes when they do these ridiculous cat-and-mouse fights they play at having.

alucard drops heavily into that same chair with a heavy sigh; he needs a drink. long fingers move to begin unbuttoning his shirt — one he was given by oscar wilde, he might add (what a birthday that had been) — knowing he'll have to get it mended later. it's billowy and ridiculous and he absolutely loves it, so he's annoyed at trevor for ripping it not on a seam.

he hears the man of his current annoyance moving around behind him, but doesn't care much on what he's doing. they've been doing this sort of ruse for years because alucard isn't going anywhere and trevor belmont will always be a disgrace to his family name when it comes to hunting creatures of the night, no matter how many covens and packs and sects and clans and broods he destroys (albeit sometimes rather hamfistedly). he hasn't killed dracula himself, certainly hasn't slain alucard either.

one of those is because he's simply a fool and the other is because he's a fool and fucking him.

and the latter isn't his father.

things happen, as those famous they always say, and it has with them. they get on terribly, but the sex is amazing and there are beings out there that need to see their end. if that means working together, so be it. it's been this way for years now. it's why they covertly share this dilapidated cottage in the middle of the woods. that isn't why they share a bed, but that part is neither here nor there.

alucard rakes his fingers through his long hair and twists it up into a bun before he settles properly into the chair like a pouty king waiting to be serviced. his voice raise enough to be heard, recalling a remark from earlier that night, )

It isn't scum I suck, you know. ( don't be crass u filthy vampire. ) Though I suppose that argument could be made rather easily.

( beastly — well, that sure is one way to put it, isn't it? he's been called worse. a hell of a lot worse by the vampire himself, and every little insult just goes rolling off of his shoulders like water off a duck's back, turned back around on him again and again until there are very few words left between them, minimal space between mouths that bite both figuratively and literally.

and, more often than not someone is just as likely to come at him instead of his vampire companion — acquaintance — whatever the fuck he is just because he's gone and said something offensive, or sarcastic, or both all in one breath and pissed them off well enough to merit a bullet or two being aimed at the middle of his forehead. it's his luck, really, and he goes about making it for himself without even thinking of changing his ways, because he's always been like this, what's the fucking point in jumping through hoops now?

he's never really cared all that much if he offends someone. likely, they deserve it. whether they want to believe that or not.

( they never do, but that's never been his problem. )

there are more reasons than just one for why they share the same space more often than they don't, most of which have a lot to do with trevor ( begrudgingly ) acknowledging that he needs the vampire's help when it comes to extinguishing some nuisance of the night or another, and no, he might not have been able to go after dracula himself but that's still far off enough in the future that he doesn't care to think that far ahead, and … some of which have a bit to do with how easily they fall into bed together, even if it's with all those sharp angles and edges that do more damage than they don't.

he's always been a goddamned fool. it's just one more thing that isn't about to change anytime soon.

they play games to keep themselves and each other interested, and this one might get a little carried away with putting on airs when they're seen together in public, and maybe he takes a particular sort of joy in ruining some of those articles of clothing that have passed through decades they were never meant to — a rip here, a tear there, a scowl on the vampires face that washes him in a twisted sort of delight whether he wants to admit it or not — but it's never without consequence, a price he's willing to pay just to get under that pale skin and rile him up.

he sniffs, a sharp inhale as he watches the other settle, only closing the distance once all that hair is piled up on top of his head and out of the way, coming up to brace his hands on either arm of that chair and leaning in until he's in alucard's personal space, smirking at him like the smug bastard he has a tendency to be. )

I know that, but no one else does. ( he muses against his mouth, bold as ever. ) And you're still pouting. It's just a fucking shirt.
