The Jumpscares Meme

We all had our share of these kind of experiences, where something suddenly jumps at you and you either impress your friends by showing a straight face or you shriek and jump back five feet. Why not have that experience again?

 

-The Rules-

- Post with your character. State any preferences you may have, along with name and canon of course. You may start with an opener or leave blank
- Roll with RNG or pick an number from the list below. Your character is now in this situation and should react accordingly. You can decide between yourselves if you want to be scared or watch someone else be scared.
-Hilarity ensues! You don't have to end it at the scare. You can play out any events that happen after, such as cooking dinner and eating after opening biscuits, or hanging out with your friend/date after scaring them.
-Have fun!


1. The Classic Jumpscare game - This can be either one of those prank games like the Luna series or the exorcist face popping up on a maze. Or it can be a video game that isn't a prank, but still has its share of jumps, such as the Slender games, Amnesia, and Ao Oni.

2. The Classic Jumpscare video/Screamers - You know the one, where you show your friend a video and watch them shriek in horror as that horrifying face pops up on an otherwise quiet video of kittens playing, or whatever. Or you guys are watching a movie thats full of them.

3. Biscuit Horror - Oh god...not those. It's time to cook dinner and you have to face your fears of these cans of refrigerated dough. Either you have done this before, and you wince as you slowly pull the spiraled paper, only to have a heart attack when it pops or sigh in relief if it's one of those rare quiet ones. Or for more fun, you might be opening this for the first time and not realize what it does. for those who are unsure about what this is, this video sums it up.

4. Unexpected kitchen horror - There's always that bottle that explodes when you open it...or perhaps you open your daily box of cereal only to see a spider jump out...

5. Prank - You're meeting a friend, or you see them concentrating on something. You can't help but want to grab their shoulders from behind and scream briefly. Depending on your friend's personality, your life may not be guaranteed.

6. The Bongcheon-dong Ghost AKA That Korean Comic - This little monster is it's own category. The horrifying comic that looks safe because it's just a comic, right? Not like the guy who made it added anything that could turn its head 180 degrees or jump at you...

7. Okay, now I know this doesn't usually happen... - This time it's getting real. You're watching a scary movie and the evil little girl in it is starting right at you...or maybe is even crawling out of the TV. Or any other otherwise unrealistic situations you can think of.

8. Wildcard - Play out anything that isn't otherwise listed in here.

[No...anything but this. Why? WHY? Why did this have to happen? what did Tsutomu do to deserve such punishment?

Tsutomu could feel the spider crawling on his shoulders. And from the feel of the space between the legs, this was a big one.

Whimpering, Tsutomu reached for a magazine to roll it up. His whole body trembled. He turned pale. He moved his head to face the spider...only to see that it wasn't a spider.

A bloodcurdling scream could be heard from from a mile away.]

[Never mind a mile, The Ninja gets a kick out of that scream from just a few feet away where he's perfectly hidden, well out of sight. But he can't start congratulating himself just yet; the real show has yet to begin.

The hand falls back off of his shoulder, lying on the floor like a just-swatted spider, fingers twitching unpleasantly. Just as it finally stops moving, there's a strange, desperate scratching sound from the cupboard just behind Tsutomu.

The doors rattle.]

「 See how nice cooking together is? Homare thinks it's about time Mikio familiarized himself with the newly-installed kitchen, anyway. It'll make everyone's lives easier that way, but while he's got a tray of something roasting in the oven that huge pot of spaghetti sauce needs a bit of an extra kick.

So he's been struggling with this jar of marinara sauce for a while now, and he's finally given up. 」 Could you get this for me?

It had been a simple request from some of the boys in research and development. Caroline had resisted at first, after all, she didn't have time for games. Still, it did seem impressive that they managed to build such a sophisticated looking graphics on their free time. Her feet hurt from the errands she had been running all day all over the facility, so a chance to sit down would be nice.

Caroline sat at the computer and started what seemed to be a simple maze game. Before she knew it, she was wrapped up in beating level after level and as they went the colors of the maps would flash in different patterns and intensities. Soon an hour passed and she still was at it.

The game grew more surreal as time went on, soaking up more and more of her attention, hypnotic in it's addictive gameplay. Eventually the game grew to such an intensity that it shut out all other distractions, to the point where she would have difficulty hearing much anything else, including an agitated CEO.

His shouts for her not having the usual effect, Cave Johnson shook her on the shoulder to get her attention.

"Playing games on the job Caroline? I'm disappointed."

She screamed and continued screaming for a few good seconds when he shook her, shaking still in his hands. Her eyes staid shut and all of her muscles tense and she didn't dare relax or open her eyes.

His hands flew off of her, as though she were on fire. He looked around a moment, to see what kind of attention her shrieks attracted.

"Caroline! Stop yelling this instant!", He kept his voice to a low growl, not wanting to outright yell at his assistant in front of other employees.

[Okay Tsutomu, think. Where are you? Your apartment. right. There's no one in here, there couldn't be. You didn't see anyone walk in.

So what did you eat? ...Nothing that could have made you hallucinate. Then what exactly is going on? A ghost? That's silly! There...couldn't be...

The doors rattled, and Tsutomu's hairs stood on end. And then the cupboard...no. This wasn't happening. Humanity's greatest enemy. Rats.

There was vermin in his house! That had to be it! Never mind the detached hand. That left Tsutomu's mind once the idea of vermin entered his brain. Sadly, Tsutomu only had a can of pesticide, but that would do something, right? Slowly he headed for the cupboard and pulled it open...]

She finally calmed down and with a small cautionary peek, Caroline finally relaxed. "Mr. Johnson, I..I didn't hear you come up behind me. Was there something you needed?"
