[He stares at Spock for a moment processing. The Vulcan's meaning dawns on him and he blinks, a strange tension seeming to string his body in place.] Oh. You mean... emotional meaning.

[This is dangerous territory. He can't seem to make himself move away from Spock, though.]

[Spock pulls away from his Captain... afraid of the rejection.

He stands by the balcony, hands clasped behind his back, staring at the stars once more.]

My apologies Captain. If it is your desire, we can go on has we have and we do not have to mention this dance ever happened. [Because he cannot do this you see... he has feelings for his Captain.]

[Rare was the occasion that Lady Sif ever had an evening to herself. Between training with the Warriors, or forced to sit through another celebratory feast honoring the elder Prince while he regaled the population with endless stories of their latest adventure, it seemed like centuries. Gladly, the night was quiet, the House of Odin calm with only the crackle of wood burning in the giant pit set in the middle of one of the lesser common rooms.

Sif stood on the balcony, head tipped back and dark eyes thoughtfully trying to draw imaginary lines to create a picture. Only judging by her furrowed brow, it was obvious she was having no luck with it.]

[Loki had not meant to happen upon the warrior goddess all alone this night but when he saw her there with her brows furrowed as if glaring unconsciously at the night sky he could not help but linger for a moment more to observe. He glanced up at the dark sky and saw the stars shining brightly tonight and wondered what about them was so troubling the lady. Daringly, he decided to approach and ask.]

A drop of the sea's fire for your thoughts, my lady. Why do you look at the sky so askance?

[Jim lets his arms drop, frowning after Spock as he withdraws.] That's not my desire. [He feels like something is slipping away, something that will be gone forever if he doesn't act, so he steps forward and grabs Spock's shoulder to turn him.] If we don't go on as we have, how else do we go?
freeholding: John Marcone, blank faced, his eyes like dead things. (nothing but the role remains)

six, set post-Harry getting the mantle?

[personal profile] freeholding 2012-11-26 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
[John opens his eyes and knows a cold the likes he's never felt before. It's a soft downy blanket laid over him, slowly thickening as snow continues to fall on him, but the sensation couldn't be more dissimilar to cover; bedding doesn't tend to sting icy against his skin.

His mind is sluggish as he sits up and knocks the snow off him. Something about... Yes. Winter was hosting the meeting of the Unseelie Accords. It was the first time they'd hosted it in Faerie since John had managed to sign onto the Accords, and being in Mab's company had been terrifying and exhilarating.

There had been wine. Christ, he'd drank beltane wine, hadn't he? It seemed the thing to do-- everyone else had, from the Summer and Winter Knights to the dragon to Raith to Donar.

None of whom was a vanilla mortal.

John sighs and suppresses a shiver. He looks around and sees nothing but snow and trees. He looks up and frowns at the sky.

He's no stargazer, especially living in a city with so much light pollution, but he's pretty sure those are the wrong stars.]

[She is quick to wipe at her eyes when she hears his voice, even though she's seated on the rough and hunched over, and he cannot yet see her face. He's there, that's enough, and she won't show weakness.]

You've balls as big as Volstag's, coming up here and daring to speak to me.

[She doesn't look at him, and though her voice is tired, her fire is still, in the undercurrent of her tone.]

I was foolish, I suppose, for thinking we were friends.

[Well. It might be news to him.]

[He is surprised by the contact, but he tentatively faces Jim when he is turned.
Spock's eyes are once again expressing sadness as he looks at his Captain...]

That is entirely up to you Captain.

[personal profile] thetisfortenacious 2012-11-26 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it is, Spock. I think this is something we need to figure out together. [He steps closer, fingers flexing against the material of Spock's dress uniform.]
spohkh: (oh Jim)

Ah... but I am not on the moon for the time being. [ She speaks lightly. While much can be said of good Volstagg's courage it is scarcely that which I profess to have, coming here.

[ the ledge that traces the lower rim of this tower's spire is broad enough to allow him a few steps toward her, though sif's words are enough to give loki pause, that he yet remains just beyond the invisible boundary she has drawn about herself. ]

anatural: Korra admits something uncomfortable (Sad: I don't like saying this)

[personal profile] anatural 2012-11-26 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Korra looks back up at the moon, and wonders if it has a spirit, or if it is one of Chekov's lifeless rocks.]

That sounds so lonely.

[She's not a very spiritual person; she can't connect with the spirit world the way the Avatar is supposed to. Spirits are shy; they require a stillness of mind and spirit that she can never seem to achieve. She's too physical, can't stop herself from moving.

But she can still feel them, especially the moon, which lends her strength to all waterbenders. She knows they're there, even if she can't see them, in the same way she knows that her parents are there and love her even when she's thousands of miles away. The idea of a world without them seems almost painfully empty.]
candothat: (Serious: Concerned)

[personal profile] candothat 2012-11-26 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It is, a little.

[Spirituality isn't something that is typically found among Terran scientists of the twenty-third century. There is no way to prove that spirits exist. They can't be quantified and, more importantly, they are unnecessary. Natural phenomena can be explained without resorting to supernatural explanations.

That doesn't mean that the universe is dead. Maybe it isn't animated with spirits, but there's an elegance to a world explained by facts and numbers. Science tells a story about death and rebirth and interconnectedness and stardust; mathematics is the language of nature itself, and there's a deep and abiding beauty in that language. The Fibonacci sequence can be found in the spiral of a pine cone. The Mandelbrot set can capture the delicate crystalline structure of a snowflake or the glint of a diamond.

There's a stunning symmetry to all of existence that can only be captured in numbers, but Chekov isn't nearly eloquent enough to explain any of this to Korra.]

But it is very beautiful in its way.

This is more than he could ever imagine.]

[ Surprisingly, Harry's been waiting rather patiently. John would either wake up, or he'd have to be woken up. Sleeping in a snowbank was a little detrimental to one's health. Maybe the two of them ought to have a serious conversation about that - and about John's drinking habits. One did not attempt to outdrink the Allfather, for starters. Especially Chicago's dearest Baron.

All Harry wants to do is wiggle the toe of his boot into said Baron's ribs, give him a little jolt to wake him up, but his hopes are dashed when John gets up.

It's not like he's been waiting that long, but it's with Winter's remoteness that he held off from immediately waking the man. Survival, quite obviously, was up to the individual - although Harry wouldn't be letting John sleep through their first meeting in a... long time. He's not wearing his duster, but some dark hip-length peacoat that Maeve demanded he pair with this scarf not that one if he was going to meet up with John Marcone of all people.
]

Sorry that I wasn't there to greet you personally - the Queen had me out repainting her roses. [ Harry drawls brightly after a moment, picking his feet up out of the snow to step into John's peripheral vision. He looks worn thin, but smiles honestly enough. Like he might actually be happy to see the one person who he could still claim tied him to Chicago, even if the thread were a fragile one. ] Hiya Baron Marcone. Looks to me like you got hazed.
freeholding: John Marcone, terminally unamused. (hard sidelook)

[personal profile] freeholding 2012-11-27 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
John blinks slowly and follows the long expanse of the Winter Knight's legs to his rather fine coat to a scarf wrapped around a mildly amused face. It's foggy and John takes a moment to show an ounce of weakness, pressing the heels of his hands into his eyes and waiting for the world to resolve itself.

There are political ramifications, of course, to passing out in Faerie and being handled by Winter's representative. That is it Dresden and not Lady Maeve or the fucking Leanansidhe bodes somewhat well, though. He hates dealing with the sidhe; no matter what you do you're going to piss off someone. At least Dresden's used to taking flagrant offense to John's very existence. Nothing new there.

He pushes himself up gingerly, first just to his knees, then stops. God, there are hangovers then there is Beltane wine hangovers. He breathes slowly, then says, "How much time have I lost?"

The worst part of taking a nap in the Nevernever, doubtlessly, if the time dissonance. And John thought the Rome-to-O'Hare jetlag was bad. Christ.
