The HOLY GRAIL WAR Meme

Seven Masters, magi of the present day. Seven Servants, heroes of days past.
One Holy Grail, granting whomever claims it a wish. Only one team of Master and Servant may claim it.
Who will it be?
For those unfamiliar with Fate/Stay Night or Fate/Zero, you can find a better explanation of the Holy Grail War here.

Instructions
1. Comment with your character. In the subject line, put that character's name, canon, and which role (Master, Servant, or either) you would like them to fulfill. Add other preferences if you would like. (NOTE: If your character can fill the role of Servant, I suggest you state which class(es) -- Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, or Berserker -- they fall into.)
2. Reply to others' comments. Pick your character's role (and the other character's if they list "Either" as their preference), then use the RNG to pick a scenario that fits the two characters' roles.
3. Enjoy! Though there might be triggers, depending on how the prompts are interpreted.

TWO MASTERS

1. Battle. Who says that Servants get to have all the fun? After all, most Masters try to kill each other, too. Whatever the circumstances, the two of you are locked in a fight. Neither of you are willing to use your Command Spells just yet, so no Servants here. Just two magi duking it out.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. Protection. Uh-oh! One of you has lost your Servant! Unfortunately, there's no way you'd get to the church safely on your own, so the other one will help you get there! Or maybe you don't trust the priest presiding over the Holy Grail War and are giving shelter to them yourself? Given their track record, no one would blame you.

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. You, Too? Surprise! You may have been friends before, but you've just discovered that you're both Masters! How will you handle this revelation?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!

MASTER AND SERVANT

1. Are You My Master? The summoning is complete. Whether intentional or not, catalyst or not, a magus has summoned a Servant. What kind of meeting was it? Was everything totally under control, or did a hitch occur? Or maybe it happened in the middle of a life-or-death situation!

2. Identity. Either the Servant has flat out told the Master their identity, or they unleashed their Noble Phantasm. Either way, the cat is out of the bag. How will the Master react, now that they know their Servant's name and legend? Will anything change between the two?

3. Battle Aftermath. A battle has just ended. Who participated? Are either of you hurt? Did the Master have to use a Command Spell? Any number of things could have happened here.

4. Discord. Uh-oh. It looks like the Master and the Servant don't get along. Here come the arguments! Don't do something stupid, like waste a Command Spell over a triviality...

5. Love. And then, there's the opposite. Sometimes Masters and Servants fall in love with each other. How will this affect things?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!

TWO SERVANTS

1. Battle. This is what usually happens when two Servants meet -- they duke it out. This probably says enough as it is.

3. The Grail Dialogues. Maybe you're not interested in fighting just yet. Maybe you just want to sit down and talk with the other Servant. Find out what they want, what makes them tick. Get some wine while you're at it -- nothing like good wine to go with good talk!

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying...again. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in this War in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. Identity. Congratulations, you've just learned each other's identities! Will this change the situation, or will you press onward?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!

Men like him never change. For now, we can rely on that.

[She slightly hopes Waver can afford all that. It's not her problem, though.]

I have a stock of small explosives that could do the job nicely. [She shrugs.] It takes a little more out of me than my stock of medical supplies but small arms from the British force, shouldn't be an issue for me. It would be a nasty trap for any fool, Master or Servant.

[Again with the princess!? Elphelt can feel her own ears getting a little warm. Whether the cutesy nickname is sincere or to tease her, it's...well, just what she would want as a wife! Is Saber serious that the analogy isn't that good? Because Elphelt feels like it's only being reinforced here.

Her expression gets more solemn. She puts a hand over her heart.
]

I know it won't be happy out there. But...'Master' and 'Servant' sound so unfeeling. I didn't like the idea of being a 'Master' of anyone. Meanwhile, I always dreamed of being a wife, so looking at it that way made things more acceptable. And I would never be able to be a real one...

[She mumbles under her breath. A moment of silence and Elphelt's smile returns. She knows playing pretend and changing her perspective is just ignoring reality to some extent, but she doesn't see a problem with that. She ultimately wants to be useful and support someone, anyone, and Saber is her responsibility, not as a Servant or familiar, but as a guest and new friend.

...And this is where her daydreaming would add "and as maybe more".
]

I don't know your story. Mother acquired the catalyst and only told me it would almost definitely get me a Saber. They're supposed to be the best, after all.

[Elphelt gets down on both knees in front of the couch. She clasps one of Saber's hands in between both of her own, looking at her intently.]

I promise to do everything I can to take care of you, so please let me, whether it's tending to your injuries or listening to what is on your mind. Or even as simple as preparing dinner.

[If Servants really don't need to eat, then there will be no opportunity to experience the wifely excitement of someone eating something she has prepared...!]

[Berserker servant. He's generally reasonable, but can be affected by Madness Enhancement to some extent when transforming into demon form.

As a master I imagine him to be like Shirou: generally not very talented at magecraft and so shounen he just wants to protect his servant and keep them safe :'( Can also come in pre-transformation/episode 1 Akira flavour (who is more like Waver, for comparison).]

( he presses an idle thumb to the three command seals imprinted upon the fine tendons of one hand, glowing soft an emerald-jewel hue, as he tries, once more, to revitalize the narrow pathways with what feeble mana he possesses. not to ever cast such spells, but to construct and conserve what few amounts he has left, as if attempting to carry pale milk in two hands, to be spilt and sloshed until mere droplets remain.

glimpsing downwards, a broad stripe of gauze wraps around the baby-fat pouch of kurt's stomach: his reward for trying to chastise berserker, such a servant paired with a half-grown novice master, and hardly much of a mage at all, his magic immature and unblossomed. scarlet patterns weep against the bandages, the wound healing sluggishly. he had been fortunate for all of his insides, fragile and gelatinous and grey-pink, to remain that way, a single claw stroked along his flesh with all the pressure of a paper cut: a wordless warning to behave, as if their roles were reversed.

he wishes, if by the grail's power, for just one hope to come true, he aches and yearns and cries for love. not in the petty platonicisms of friendships and familial ties, nor the warm affection of close classmates and choirs, but rather the genuine article: romance, in all its pink slendor, frills and ribbons and lace, embraces and kisses and soft exchanged oaths of marriage.

kurt casts a glance towards berserker: all thick fur and ivory fangs and claws, the musk of stale canine and raw roasts intruding upon fluttering nostrils, hearing the passage of heavy breaths through a muzzle in the early morning, the sun having yet to drip their close quarters in honeyed gold: another beginning of another battle. )

i'm almost all out. ( he murmurs to her, and what to follow afterwards? withdrawal from the war, or surrender to the other masters, or death. without magic he is simply a boy, and she will vanish in spectral vapor, both their wishes ungranted. her, unfulfilled, and him, unloved. )

Do you mean modern day explosives? The type that Saber's Master used?

[She has no familiarity with human weaponry, yet from the way Saber's Master has demolished the hotel, the explosives created by human technology must be powerful indeed.]

But that does sound like a useful ability, Berserker.

[It is nothing like something a Berserker should be capable of. However, Nightingale is a unique Berserker in many ways.]

We should probably place them somewhere around the door...but the Bounded Field is already strongest there. Maybe on the ceiling? Or somewhere else where the barrier isn't as strong...

[She's not sure how much damage explosives can do to a Servant, but she's sure they would incapacitate a Master.]

If what Rider says is true, Assassin is already gone. We shouldn't have to worry about him. But Lancer and Saber might be good at subterfuge.

[Lancer is the fastest class in the Holy Grail War, and Saber's Master was the Magus Killer who defeated Kayneth.]

[ It's a bit sad, Saber can't help but feel. She can hear the earnest plea in her Master's voice, as she talks about her dream of being married, to be devoted to a person, to love and to be loved in return. But even as Elphelt shares her heart, Saber can see the sorrow in her eyes. She catches the bit that she mumbles, with nothing else in these empty halls to muffle it.

You weren't so different once, Sayaka.

Where Saber once saw someone she cared deeply for in her Master, staring at those eyes now, she only sees herself reflected in them. A knight in shining armor, if one ever were to exist. The girl in front of her is a bit of a sorry sight, but she knows where that story goes, and it's not happily ever after. The mermaid turns into sea foam. The girl on that train...

Not happening. She puts her free hand on top of Elphelt's before she has a chance to entertain that thought further, and finally speaks. ]

Mas--

[ Wait, that's wrong. She shakes her head, but keeps eye contact. ]

Forgive my rudeness, princess. [ No teasing, this time. ] The Grail War may be a tough fight, but in the end, it's all about making dreams come true. If that's your wish, it's my job to make it happen.

[ Not just as a Servant, either. It's the job of a magical girl to turn fantasies into reality. To make miracles out of misery. ]

And it will. On my honor as a hero, I'll make that oath.

Not quite modern day. They're outdated by today's standards--but they should do the job just as well.

[She had talked about such things with Kayneth but he had refused, confident in his own abilities. Besides--]

I would rather use such things where they won't cause harm to civilians. This area is perfect for that.

[Normal explosives might not do as much damage to a Servant but ones created by Servants...] It's Saber's Master these would be for. For that reason, I believe the most practical places would be in the construction area itself. Maybe even in some of the outlying areas.

[She thinks.] I'm not a soldier but ambushes seem to be more his style. Every surgeon has a favorite operation.

[As Saber's getting comfortable, Rin's pacing the room, occasionally muttering to herself. Although she'd summoned Saber, the war had still barely begun. There's a lot to plan and prepare for, and she always ends up thinking of something else to worry about.

His question interrupts her little inner monologue and she stops in her place, tilting her head towards him.]

[Apparently it's been some rough equivalent of adrenaline holding up upright until this point, for sure; either way, it's definitely abandoning him now, when knees meet pavement and his body refuses to move any further after that. Yurika's approach is registered only in periphery, until she's right in front of him and kneeling down to level. --Ah. Right, probably better...address that....at her question Berserker's head dips in a very slight nod, and there's no resistance when she takes his arm between her hands. Plenty of bleeding happening between the torn shreds of his sleeve there, for sure, where several bullets had grazed past and a couple had managed to make impact.

The silence stretches on for a little while after that, a minute that probably feels more like a small eternity. Even with the blindfold in place, it seems Berserker is trying to avoid meeting her eyes anyhow, the line of his sight still lowered and focused on his arm as Yurika's healing begins filtering over it. --He's still not--entirely sure how it all quite works, even with the borrowed knowledge of the Throne to fill out the basics in his head somewhat...where the mana ends and the technology actually begins, in his own person? He's still an android, he's sure of it--in shape, if not necessarily at the basest level anymore--but the full scope of the differences as a Servant now remain more unclear. It'd be something to wonder about, be curious about...he wants to wonder and be curious about it, an echo of a habit from another time, but even that much is terribly difficult with the haze still plaguing his head at the moment, weighing down and blurring every thought. ...Probably the Madness Enhancement, that. It's always been there, ever since he was summoned, hovering at periphery and creeping in more when he's not paying attention. But it feels like the first time it's ever gotten this acute...

The fight had felt great, while it was happening. Like something unraveling loose--that's probably why, isn't it? But now he's not entirely sure how to ravel it up again. Right now--Berserker tries his best to concentrate on the delicate fingers working through his sleeve, and the faint warmth creeping into the stinging numbness of his arm. He needs to say something, after all? He needs to--pull himself together--

Maybe at least this much is visible on his face, at length, in the tight frown that starts to tug down at the corner of his lips a little when he finally looks up to Yurika properly.]

...Are you mad at me, ma'am? [--Well, that wasn't what he wanted to say, but the question's out before he can stop it, thoughts still too scattered to form up a proper filter. At least some feeling is starting to bleed back into his tone too, with this, quiet and tired and a little hoarse.] I--should have waited for you. I didn't--that Master...he wasn't supposed to be a target too, was he?

[No, of course he wasn't. This wasn't how things were supposed to go. This wasn't what he wanted--to happen--was it? But Yurika isn't the only one with difficulty trying to ignore the body lying just a few feet away, about now...and even not looking at it anymore, the thought of it still weighs in Berserker's processor like a weight, stranger and heavier by the second...]

I'll trust you on that.

[She has to. Even if she is confident in her abilities, she cannot help but admit that Berserker has more combat experience.]

Then, we should first secure the basement entrance, as well as the incomplete areas. What about the girders? Kayneth said something about Saber's Master taking out the foundations. Could we do something similar?

[ Flashing her a fleeting glance over his shoulder, Saber simply nods to her thanks with a small "Mm." before she takes off. His attention is once again gained by the shuffling of steps from the beasts that stood before him. One attempted to lunge after Jeanne as she made her escape, jumping past the blond swordsman.

... Rather, it would have, if it wasn't for the deceivingly fast side swipe of Saber's blade as it cleaved the monster clean in two. The familiar dissipated in a cloud of bloody particles before being reduced to nothing, fading into the night. This seemed to cause the hoard to relent, hesitant to act or go after Ruler further. Jeanne d'Arc, the holy maiden who would see to this war being concluded justly. The fact that she was out on the battlefield to see this justice through herself...was all that Cloud needed.

The other six Servants were his enemy- but after tonight and until the very end, Jeanne would find herself an ally in Cloud. Her actions here had earned his trust, and his sword for such plights. ]

Too bad you can't feel regret. [ He readies himself, muscles tensing as the grip upon the Fusion Sword tightens. ] 'Cause this is gonna hurt.

!!! Haah—!!

——

[ Every minute- no... Every second counted as the ensuing confrontation between Ruler and Caster wasted precious time. Time that could have been used freeing the innocents being drained and manipulated by the Servant's poison. The bounded field that Caster had created using the mana they had amassed was absurd. If it were to be collected into a single attack, it would rival multiple Servant's Noble Phantasms. But more importantly, if this continued, their influence would leak throughout the entire town and cause further damage and loss of innocent lives.

Everything would rot in disease and death.

But they cared little about the means. For Caster, the ends (the Holy Grail, satisfying their Master) justified the means. Drunk off the accrued power they possessed, most other Servants would be hard set to defeat them now. Despite Jeanne's nigh-immunity to Caster's magic, it was the threat of killing off every single prisoner that made things difficult. Getting too close would simply corrupt and melt their bodies away from the potent and dense field of poison. The air would have been enough to choke any normal human within the vicinity in seconds.

Despite the Saber class' innate resistance to magic, Cloud's statistic in this area was surprisingly low. Which was why when he arrived and teamed up with Jeanne against Caster, his movement was slowed before being submitted to a lethal wave of poison. It was a mistake to come here. He should have left everything to Jeanne and risk the loss of further lives. ... and yet, ]

"Why...? Why, why, whywhywhyWHY?! Why are you still standing?! You should be less than bones by now!!" [ For the first time, Caster exuded fear as they screamed out for an answer. And amidst the thick haze of poison, Cloud's eyes seemingly pierced through the darkness as he remained standing alongside Jeanne. ]

That's easy... [ With one hand, he tears away his torn sleeve, revealing blotches of black that stained the flesh of his arm. All beneath a red ribbon wrapped around his bicep. This wasn't because of Caster's poison. No... The origin of this disease ran deeper. ] I'm already corrupt.

[ This battle was reaching its climax. If they couldn't directly attack Caster least they released their Noble Phantasm and killed everyone else, he would simply end this from a distance. A fiery blue aura envelopes Saber's body and sword as a sudden wind began to swirl around the blond. It grew stronger, billowing and blowing away the dense haze that filled the bounded field.

With a shout, he swung his giant sword in the direction of the mad Servant, unleashing a massive tornado that tore its way towards the enemy. ]

[ The mana flow that Sheena had given him was quite remarkable. Whether she was an experienced magus or not, he had yet to figure out. He could only assume as much for now. If anything, it lent to his ability to clash with Berserker earlier. If his Master were weak, he may have had to play things more calculated and avoid any conflict whatsoever at first. If she were at 100%, he would have likely asked for her orders and started doing battle with whoever dared to come their way from the get-go.

In a slight break from his stoicism, he blinks with a wider gaze when she shakes her head and stares the other way. Her embarrassment was lost on him, luckily for him. Granted, would he have pointed it out if he saw it? It was difficult to see under the the unnatural light above them in this neighborhood. ]

Good.

[ When Sheena takes the initiative to return to their ride, he's impressed with both her resourcefulness and willingness to keep going. On that note, ]

Yeah. Let's call it a night.

——

[ It wouldn't take long for the two to come riding up to a new lodging, along one of the main roads just like his Master had anticipated. It was late enough at night that there was zero commotion outside, which meant as the two parked off to the side of the Inn and dismounted, he waited for Sheena to get off. Whenever she did, Fenrir would suddenly vanish in a distorted haze, removing any sign of their trail for any potential enemies to follow. ]

Guess this is my cue. [ Speaking of conveniently disappearing... The man that was once standing beside the ninja would...well- conveniently disappear. Or rather, he returned to his spirit form. Both to draw less attention to the couple and to conserve the flow of mana she was providing him. Due to their connection however, his voice was clear yet soft in her head. Like he was still by her side. ]

At least you don't have to pay for two people.

[ Of course, there was the other problem that he had yet to properly explain anything to Sheena about what the hell was going on. Way to assume. ]
