Some things don't need explanations. Chicken wings. Wonderful weather. Guilty pleasures like Michael Bay movies. This meme is one of those things. It's simple: one character is in another's lap, and eventually the two get hot and heavy. Whether it's a friend sitting on a lap because there's no room, couples cuddling, or a stripper giving a lap dance, one thing will lead to another...after all, the loss of personal space can certainly set actions (and more) in motion.

[ The Avengers are fond of their little intimate parties, he's come to learn. It's mostly a trade of Stark bragging, showcasing the high end displays his money can provide within the tower. It's not all kinds of terrible; waiters roam with their dishes of snacks and appetizers, plenty for his slick fingers to chase, oftentimes with a speed merely to send the poor part-timer in a fit of bewilderment over the missing foods.

Pietro has his laughs, his cheeks constantly puffed with the array of desserts in his mouth, venturing from one side of the tower to the other to avoid conversations that go on longer than he's willing to listen. He's grown tolerant of the others, even fond of a few, but it all still left him a bit —

uneasy.

Even as the others crowd together on the couches, he merely listens (partially listens) to the conversation, as he leans against the side arm where he sits, teeth crunching on the buttery cracker on his tongue. The scene is foreign, unfamiliar. And he knows little of what to make of it.

His brow peeks up with interest, however, when she finds her way to the couches, that dress on her attracting far more than only his own eyes.

When there's no place for her to sit, he notices Vision's mouth opening to speak, and with speed that's his trade, Pietro calls her name first, his palm tapping at his lap in a casual gesture. Someone mutters something about it being odd, to which someone else responds about it being a weird Sokovian siblings thing, but his eyes are only on her, his smug smile easy as he waits for her to take her seat. ]

she's taking credit, because most of the time peter's the one who finds a clever way to steal her attention when they're trying to get work done, but no! this time it's gwen. she's finished her work first, shuts her laptop with a huff, and realizes that he's still got a highlighter between his teeth ( which shouldn't be endearing, but here we are ) and two notebooks open on the floor in front of him, where he's sitting crosslegged and cozy ( well as cozy as one can be in her on-campus apartment in late august, the humidity heavy because her little a/c unit broke and only left them with a couple box fans until she can buy the parts peter needs to fix it ) and most importantly! unsuspecting. because he apparently isn't done studying yet.

ha haa. that's what he THINKS, at least!

and it's not this immediate thing, she doesn't come up with it right away, but eventually she gets there. eventually she's moving. they weren't sitting all that far apart, but it's just enough that she has a reason to move up onto her hands and knees, getting over to him that way. she doesn't even think to find her way onto his lap first, instead just settling flat on her knees in front of him, leaning forward into his space a bit. over his notebooks. he can probably still read them if he's really that invested, but she's right there. ]

[ It's a forty minute bus ride from Čačak to Kraljevo, and on top of looking like it's about to break down under a strong gust of wind, the bus is packed. It's less than standing room only, people with shopping bags that jut out in front of or behind them take up the space where an abdomen might have fit. Through sheer circumstance and necessity, they're sequestered into the very back, rightmost corner with about two feet of space and jutting overhead compartments.

And thus their predicament, with Barnes in an uncomfortable seat and Wanda perched in his lap trying not to fall over into the sleeping man on their left or whack her head on the tinted glass to her right. The bus does them no favors, the constant jerking, listing, tilting, bumping sending her careening until he bites down the awkward discomfort and secures a hand on either side of her waist to keep her at least balanced on this thighs.

They're ten minutes in and he can already tell things aren't going to go well. It's just that she's wearing a dress that shows the smooth long lines of her legs, it hugs her waist, she's a solid and soft weight in his lap, and-

well, he hasn't gotten laid in seventy god damn years, so. Here they are. ]

( trust that studying was not his first plan for one of their rare evenings together, with no sirens echoing just a few blocks away or any responsibilities rearing their ugly heads. his, or hers — Gwen has plenty on her slim, often sweater-vested shoulders, because even with his night-time habits of wall-crawling and crime-fighting, she's practically more busy than he is. those few nights they have together, Peter would much rather have his attention on something besides his textbook.

it's just that he's pretty damn behind in his world lit class, and while it isn't exactly hard work he actually has to do it to get credit for it. he's determined to get it all done in one sitting and to not think about any kind of literature for another two weeks, or longer if possible, until a blonde head swims into the way of the fourth paragraph on page 172.

the highlighter in his teeth makes it hard to answer, so he obligingly takes it out and tucks it behind an ear that coincidentally already has a highlighter. it's fine, his ears are big enough to secure two at once. ) Hi, ( he answers, smiling despite the fact she's most certainly keeping him from pivotal knowledge about victorian literature. Peter is certain it isn't going anywhere fast, and will still be just as enthralling in a minute. ) Looking for something? ( there's at least a 10% chance she needs something just beyond him and is being really adorable about being in the way while she collects it. )

[ she doesn't laugh but there's humor in her eyes when she reaches to take both of those highlighters out from behind his ear, putting them on the floor next to her knee. not really out of reach for him, but deliberate in its placement. she shakes her head no, she isn't looking for anything, not really. well. his attention, sure, but there's no cute way to say that. not the kind of cute she wants to go for, anyway. gwen, in most cases, has perfected the art of being needy without being openly needy, and even though she's trying for something new here right now, that isn't going to change. it's probably going to be written all over her body language in two seconds, but that's besides the point.

she's still watching his face even as her hand moves to dog-ear the open page in his notebook before slipping it shut ( so considerate ), then does the same to his other notebook. they get pushed over that way so she can lift up on her knees again to take their place right there in front of him. ]

I'm done with my homework.

[ which isn't what he asked, and doesn't explain much unless he reads into it, but she's sure he will. that's what they do. they tease and they imply things and then stuff happens. her hands rest in her lap, but she uses the way her body leans in towards him to inform what she wants, where she's going. she doesn't kiss him, not yet, but she's close enough that her nose brushes up against his when she tilts her face up. she could kiss him, the option is there. she's just- waiting. for some reason. maybe she just doesn't want to rush things along, now that they have time.
