The truth hurts, probably more than she's willing to admit. She feels tears threatening her eyes, but she refuses to cry. That would probably hurt him just as much as seeing the contents of her mind.

"Everyone does what they have to do to get by sometimes." she says, her voice soft, quiet, her eyes lowered to the table. Truth be told, Lois has never had to worry about that... the General had always made sure she was taken care of. Well, except for that one time she had to work at the Talon to make extra cash. But Lois has known many people who'd had to do things they hadn't really wanted to do just to make it.

"It could be different, you know." she says, her voice still hushed. "Things could change."
