He barely hears the words their civil servant asks him to repeat, feels like he's speaking them of his own accord as he says: ]

With this ring I promise to grow with you, to build our love, to speak openly and honestly to listen to you, and to love and cherish you for all the days ahead. From this day forward you shall not walk alone. My heart will be your shelter and my arms will be your home. With this ring, I thee wed.

And he does. He ducks in slowly but with purpose, hands still wrapped around hers, moving before he can think to talk himself out of it. Moving so that he doesn't get frozen in place an inch from her, moving faster than he'd have done it if it were just the two of them, but it happens nonetheless. His lips touch hers.

His heart beats twice, slow motion. He lingers. ]
