Stuck in an Elevator Meme

STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR MEME

You enter the elevator with only one other person on it. Twenty seconds into the ride and it stops. The power is stuck. The doors won't open, you're between floors, and no one is answering your calls. You're stuck with this person for an unknown amount of time.

①Post your character.
②Post to other characters.
③Have fun, anything goes.
④Profit.

[Oh... it would be her first time on an elevator that it would get stuck. She looks around mournfully, confused by what's happening.]

Are all of Earth's elevators so unreliable?

[Ugh, stuck in an elevator. This would happen to him. He has the worst luck. Still, it's probably worse for the little girl stuck here with him, and he's not going to complain (inwardly, maybe, but not out loud).

Instead, he tries his best to look like a reassuring and confident adult. Because that is what he is!]

Don't worry, they have all kinds of safety measures in place, so I'm sure we'll be out of here in no time.

How should I know?

[ Okay, so the littlest infantryman is maybe being a tad defensive, but -- with his cellphone out already and no signal in range, things just keep on getting better; he's hardly paying attention to the civilian trapped with him, anyway.

At least he doesn't hear any alarms blaring. (Yet.) Maybe it's just a regular power outage? A guy can hope, right? ]

[personal profile] ex_umbel396 2012-01-02 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[She gathers her hands in against her chest, putting on a brave face, as best she can.]

But why has it stopped? Have we done something wrong?

[Joe remains calm and takes out his Mobirates, trying to make a call]

Great. Nothing.

[Puts it away and looks around for a trap door]

There should be some kind of emergency exit ....

Well-- [That's a good question, but he's no elevator technician, and he has absolutely no idea what's wrong with the elevator.] Probably it's a mechanical problem. It isn't anything we did. [It's most likely poor elevator maintenance, and he'll have to talk to someone about that later.]

I'll just push this help button here, so they'll know we need help. [He's never been stuck in an elevator before, but you're supposed to call for assistance that way, right? So he pushes the button. And nothing happens. The button doesn't light up or anything. Is something meant to happen right away? Or do they have to wait?]

Um, that's what we're supposed to do.

[personal profile] ex_umbel396 2012-01-02 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[She follows after him, pushing up on her tiptoes to peer over his arm at the button, she balances that way easily, like a little ballerina, neck craned elegantly.]

What is it we have done?

[She is still convinced elevators run by magic.]

[Another good question.] You see, when you push this button... [What exactly does happen when you push the button? He pushes it again, both to demonstrate and to see if that helps. Maybe he didn't push it hard enough the first time.]

It sends a signal to somebody, somewhere. And then they know you need help, and they come to help you.

[That explanation doesn't even do a good job of convincing him. He's starting to realize how little he knows about the technical details of elevator safety, but he is a lawyer and not an engineer.]
anonfantry: (oh I just might try)

[personal profile] anonfantry 2012-01-02 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, either. [ he mumbles, a quick, sidelong glance catching the stranger apparently thinking along the same lines as him.

(Great...) ]

Um-- [ Oh, right! A way out. Cloud looks up reflexively, pointing to the small, square door in the elevator's ceiling. ] ...But that's supposed to be locked from the outside.

[personal profile] ex_umbel396 2012-01-02 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[She inhales.]

Oh. How lovely.

[She could easily just leave this time and place. She was handmaiden to the Maculatum, no elevator could hold her, but... she was trying to as she was supposed to.]

Very clever.

[personal profile] attorneyatloud 2012-01-02 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[All right, good, so that made sense. Well done, Justice!]

Now we have to stay calm and wait. [And hope that the button actually works.] Under no circumstances are we to try and leave the elevator on our own. [He knows that much about elevator safety. Trying to get out on your own only works in action movies and could be very dangerous. But he's not going to mention that to a kid, because he doesn't want to scare her.

He takes a deep breath. Everything's going to be fine. Even if the button didn't work, someone's going to notice that the elevator isn't working soon enough, right? It's not as if they're stuck in the middle of nowhere.]

So, what's your name? Mine's Apollo.

[personal profile] ex_umbel396 2012-01-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

[She drops down the sit with her knees curled under herself primly, delicate hands folded in her lap. She looks up at him with a reassuring smile. She will not be scared, as he has been such a helpful companion.]

Oh. That's an interesting name. [It sounds Latin, and also familiar. It takes him a minute to place it, but her first name sounds so much like coriander that he has to ask.] Like Coriander? [Would someone name their child after an herb? Yes, probably. Not that someone named Apollo Justice has room to criticize.]

Elevate about? [That's one way to put it.] I do take elevators fairly regularly. I guess you don't?

[James has always been good at hiding in plain sight. And out of sigh as well, but that's not important. He's always had a talent for going unseen. Adapting.

There's also a penchant for drama. Which is probably why he insisted on taking the same elevator as Sherlock Holmes. The building is not as it seems either. Nondescript. Brown brick. Old, of course. About 18th century. The contents however are highly unique to each and every floor. Like a horrid looking chocolate with delicious filling.

He has a wig, glasses, hat, high collar. Hat. Even a bit of 'fat' around his middle poking over his dress pants.

But he knows Sherlock. And he knows the whole thing is pointless. Which is why, twenty seconds in when the lift stops. He sighs in that oh-so familiar way: annoyed. And begins to chat.]

What is, Jim?

[Sherlock is uncertain.

It's very coincidental, the way the lift has stopped. With only him and a disguised Jim Moriarty on it.

A decent disguise, certainly. Could have fooled most people. Probably even Mycroft.]

[BUMP]

[Yukio doesn't mind elevators much most of the time. In fact, he doesn't have much of an opinion on them at all, really. Just a means to get from one floor to the next, the process sometimes accented with depressingly cheesy music--a 'get it over with once, and get on with life' kind of thing.]

[The boy has been silent up to this point, comfortable in his own little corner of the small space afforded by the elevator, hands in his coat pockets, watching the dial light through the floor numbers one by one with the air of someone thinking about other things. Sherlock could have been all but nonexistent, with the amount of acknowledgment he gave to the latter man in the compartment.]

[But then comes that bump, and the undeniable halt of upward movement...and the fact that the dial now appears to be stick in limbo between two floors.]

[And the incredulous second of silence could have been cut with a knife, before:]

...You've gotta be kidding me.
