He extends his offer, and his hand. Rey stares at it for several heartbeats, deliberating, before finally, tremulously taking it in hers.
From there — her fingers enfolded in his, his hand pulling her bodily toward him — the choice feels deceptively as though it's the easy one, the right one. The only option she could have ever taken. He's hers, as she is his, and she's not going to give him up so easily. The adrenaline from their fight still winds through her blood, still sends sparks up her spine as she feels his strong grip against her hand.
And yet, she tries to ignore the hollow feeling in her chest, as she lets her thoughts drift briefly to the rebels fighting for their lives.
This is not going to go how you think it will. Master Skywalker had no idea how right he would be.
Ben pulls her into the reassuring bulk of his body, and Rey tilts her chin up toward him.
The second she reaches for his hand, the trembling that had taken over Kylo Ren's form stops, all the fear he had for opening himself up to her washed away by the warmth of her fingers through his heavy gloves. He draws her in, his free arm wrapping around her waist tentatively as the heat from the fires scattered across the throne room lick at his back, barely noticeable against the flush of her breath on his face.
Absolutely everything that had mattered to him up until this moment is gone; the corpses of his master and pawns, the resistance fleet, everything faded out as he watches her tilt her chin upwards, their eyes meeting as he pulls her closer until their bodies touch. His adrenaline is still pumping through his body at high speed, and he heaves an unsteady breath, tucking his nose into her neck as he lets go of her hand, wrapping her up in his arms as tightly as he can manage.
"Rey..." He gasps her name into her neck reverently, his heart pounding so hard he's certain she can feel it, and he pulls his hands from her back to cup her face, pressing their foreheads together as he tries to find words, some way to express how much this meant to him. He cant find them, lips parting as he forms silent words.
He tilts his head and presses his lips to hers before he even realizes he's doing it, the sweet taste of her mouth and tang of her sweat more delicious than he could have imagined. It doesn't matter that no doubt someone would come soon and find them, standing amongst the carnage and body parts of their leaders. For now all he cared about was her.
