After being discharged from the military, Gabriel took up various jobs, from construction to pet sitter to his latest, working in a tea shop on the West Coast. Where he'd met Hanzo Shimada. A regular customer at first, but it blossomed into more. From roommate to boyfriend.

And today was quite special. Hanzo's birthday.

While Hanzo went to work, Gabriel cleaned up the apartment, baked him a cake and made dinner, making sure everything was set for the man when he got home. He didn't go overboard with much else, knowing the man liked things more subtle. He was just putting the final strawberries on the cake when the elevator pinged down the hallway right on time.

Gabriel greeted him at the door with a kiss. "Happy birthday carino." he said, embracing his dragon.

[ Lioriley does not need much to be happy. And the fact that she has been given even the faintest hint of affection from Hanzo in the time they've known one another is more than she could possibly ask for. He is not an openly expressive mad — unless that expression is annoyance, apparently — but behind closed doors there are hints of things.

The most prominent sign of his feelings toward the doctor are the gifts he leaves. Little things he finds while out in the world, things he leaves on her desk or on her bed for her to find later; when he is long gone again. This time it's a book, some foreign romance novel she's not certain she can even read entirely, with a red lily pressed between the pages.

Hanzo is quiet, but Lioriley can hear the shuffle of feet behind her as he tries to make his escape. Or is he just watching to see how she reacts? Who knows. She doesn't turn around. ]
