I can also take out the Kakashi journal I just tagged you with if you'd rather face off against him!!
keywords totally apply
alright! rolls up sleeves
Two and a half cups all purpose flour.
[quake in fear, peaceful world. Tonight, Minato makes pumpkin cookies
.]
ooc. I am good with them either starting off working together or starting off in competition and ending up in the mess together. Hope this opening works for you. :)
Re: alright! rolls up sleeves
There's a timer on the clock and Kakashi looks at the things on his station. He waits for it to go off and then is directed towards a pantry with a bunch of ingredients, so he rips the lids off of a couple of them looking for the right ones. ]
Sensei, did you need flour?
[ Because he's found some, he thinks. ]

[Minato's not entirely culinarily inept. He can make scrambled eggs after all. Damn good scrambled eggs. So how hard can pumpkin cookies be? Pushing up his sleeves with their braces to hold them in place, he's determined to win this competition.
He, at least, knows that cups aren't actually cups but rather giant spoons and so he rifles through the nearby drawer until he finds the right instruments. Except there's no measurement on them in their various sizes. Or on the tinier spoons he's seen Kushina use from time to time either and knows are somehow important.
This - will complicate things. They're here defending the honor of the Leaf however and no - whoever their competitors are - is going to beat their will of Fire. They're grown shinobi with a great deal of cunning between the two of them. They can handle this. So the large mixing bowl gets put on the counter and he picks the biggest cuppish spoon because what's larger than a cup in measurements? Kakashi's bag looks full of white fluffy stuff and it's not grainy like sugar so flour makes sense. He'll take it and start scooping.]
Next is baking powder. And... baking soda?
no subject
[ He's not liking this. Flour is easy to find, relatively, but baking soda and baking powder? What kind of evil person doesn't label those? ]
Do we need equal amounts of both?
[ Because one of these white powders might be cornstarch, but if they just put a tsp of everything in, then they've gotta have both things, right? Right??
Meanwhile, Kakashi's going to go find some of the spices... nutmeg is easy because he's grating that fresh, and cinammon isn't too hard, even if he has to stick his nose in a bunch of cannisters to find it.
But what the fuck is a clove? ]
no subject
Yes. A teaspoon of each. [is there a time limit on this? There might be a time limit on this. Minato will pick the least offensive looking of the tiny spoons. Sometimes battle can be won by sheer decisiveness. Cooking should be the same way. Right?
Huh. So baking soda isn't a liquid? He'll take the canisters from Kakashi and proceed to measure out appropriate amounts of whatever it is that's in them that all looks the same to him. Maybe he should taste the contents before doing that? Kushina sometimes tastes her mixes while making them. Minato eyes the bowl of white power and decides it's far too early for last resorts like that.
The salt part at least should be easy. Minato can recognize salt and know it's not sugar based on the size of the container it's in. Now... half a teaspoon. Well... if the spoon he's using has been designated a teaspoon at this point then he's not going to mess with the other spoons. He can work out how to fill the spoon he's got halfway. That should work!]

And then he goes back into the pantry to find the clove, which results in him tasting a bunch of spices in jars and deciding which one them would taste best with the recipe. Don't ask how he managed to do that with the mask on.
He might also be taste-testing for vanilla, and poked holes in about ten cans looking for pumpkin purée. Thankfully, he's found both, and rushing them back into the kitchen. ]
I'm going back for eggs.

While Kakashi has been delivering supplies, Minato has dutifully been following the instructions on the recipe. If asked, he'd say he's got the easier of the two jobs once measurements are sorted, at least in his own mind. AT Kakashi's comment he'll nod and make a sound to show he's heard. And a smile in a quick flash.]
I think we're doing quite well.

When he's satisfied, he separates them and then starts to put the dry ingredients together and the wet ingredients together. ]
Oh, what were the ingredients for the icing?
[ Because they'll need that. ]
no subject
There.
[one arm holding the bowl and the other busy stirring the mixture, Minato just gestures with his chin at the recipe. Most of it seems easy but - ]
There's no measurement for the milk. Just 'until it drizzles'.
[which technically sounds easy but as sure as Kakashi doesn't trust the eggs, a lack of measurement sounds just as suspicious to Minato on an otherwise measurement full list.]
no subject
[ Seriously, like a light drizzle that you wouldn't really call rain, or a heavy drizzle that you would possibly define as raining? Because that's really important, any less and it might be chunky, and more and it might fall flat. Not to mention the flavor would be different.
What stupid instructions. But Kakashi will keep an eye on it, or at least an ear on it until he can come up with a compromise of something in between.
The other team has nothing on them. ]

Once he's satisfied the wet ingredients are properly mixed, Minato will pull over the bowl of dry ingredients he already put together and start adding it. It occurs to him that they might actually be required to eat what they end up with but he pushes that aside for the time to focus on the immediate. Now isn't the time to show weakness.]
It also doesn't tell us how to prepare the cookie tray. I've seen Kushina spread something on pans and trays before when she's baking but there's nothing about it on the recipe. The amount of time they're supposed to cook is also vague.

[ He takes butter and greases the pan, takes what looks to be a tiny ice cream scoop and lays it to the side for portion control. ]
We'll just take turns keeping an eye on it as we work on the frosting.
[ This is going to be tricky, but he thinks they're ready to whip the ingredients together into a batter-- they'll have to taste it after that, of course. ]
