The room used for training at the Rebel base on Yavin IV was quiet save for Jyn's harsh breathing as she punched a sandbag that hung from the ceiling. The aches and pains she sustained on Scarif were acting up again as they always did when she was frustrated. This time her frustration was caused by a recently failed mission.
Since joining the Rebel Alliance, she had been given missions to complete. Small stuff at first and then bigger stuff once she was able to showcase how good she was. She liked being Sergent Erso. She liked having a base. She liked having friends. But this recently failed mission caused her to internally withdraw from everything. She had failed missions before but this one was particularly hard to get over. She was ambushed by a bounty hunter - one who had recognized Jyn under one of her previous aliases - an alias who had a price on her head. It was a kill or be killed situation.
In similar situations, when missions were compromised, she'd abandon whatever she had to do and get out of there, but the council had paired Cassian up with her for this one. It was his first mission after finally making a full recovery from Scarif. And he had gotten hurt in the process. After everything he'd been through since getting those kriffing Death Star plans, after all the rehab and bacta tank sessions, Jyn let him get hurt. How could she? The guilt of it had burrowed under her skin - injected itself into her head and heart. Her next punch made the sandbag swing violently.
