The Chicken Soup Meme (V.2)

The Chicken Soup Meme (V.2)

- AKA The Helpful RP Advice Meme -

This is a meme created in the spirit of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. People can talk about what's bothering them anonymously or logged in,  and get helpful advice, etc.

[How To]

1. Post comments about anything that's bothering you, anon or non-anon. It can be about anything, as long as it's RP or fandom related.

2. If muns want to ask for RP advice about their specific characters in this meme, they may do so. In this case, please log in, and use the usual format one would use in a HMD meme or a RP Love Meme.

3. People offer helpful advice and/or words of comfort, etc, etc. This can be anon or non-anon, too, as the muns wish. Please try to make sure the advice is helpful and polite,  not hurtful and rude, etc.

3. No flaming, bashing or wanking, please.

4. Negative namedropping of muns, characters and games, etc, is not allowed, either.

What kind of plots do people like to play?

Bakerstreet Open Musebox / Dressingroom

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I really wish a Bakerstreet Open Musebox / Dressingroom existed.

Is anybody else interested in something like that?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Like you'd repost the memes and expand them into a Setting Of The Moment That Actually Builds CR or...?

We've just opened [community profile] wayswithwords that is exactly that. We're affiliated with Bakerstreet and BS mods are going to post an advert for us. Our three comms are affiliated, but [community profile] wayswithwords is a dressingroom, open play comm and anyone is welcome to join up. We're working on getting more interest and activity there. New things are hard to kick off, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I figured it could be used in many ways.

You could use it to post thread continuations and build CR, or there could be a default Big Spa and Hotel kind of thing they could relax in between their worlds and the memes.

I'm hoping this place takes off. It's really open for personal preference and any style of play is welcome, no word limit. It was nice to see it appear. It would be a perfect place to develop any connections discovered in memes.

Are Original OCs and Fandom OCs, AU characters, and crossover characters OK, too?

What about continuing threads from memes?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't the concept of memes themselves being world connectors, though?

Everything is welcome, anon. We'd even be happy to add more tags to help people navigate as to styles of posts (ie, AU, OC, crossover, or even a Bakerstreet tag so people can flag it as stemming from Bakerstreet CR).

We're new and very open to any and all suggestions how to make the comm user-friendly for all player preferences.

EDIT: Also, because there is no word limits, linking to prior meme threads to continue in our comm is also welcome.

I like this!

Is it OK to make original settings, too?

A big spa everybody can relax in when the muns don't feel like making up a setting, for example.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, but sometimes it's just easier if you have a comm for that kind of thing, not a meme.

Like when you want to post with one character in a particular scenario, etc.

Absolutely! If you want us to supply a location tag to create that world to post in frequently, let us know and we can add the concept to our user info for people to utilise.

Ohh, I get you now. Memes are sort of isolated to 1-on-1 play, but this would open for more freedom of mingling.

And now I'm going to join up to the comm below because I'm in LOL

According to my checking--

smut and romance.

But some without plots. Like that "two truths, one lie" meme seems to indicate a simple yet fun scenario. I was thinking riddles or HAIKU some day...

I ship with only one mun for my OTP, so I'm not looking for shipping or smut. Makes open play really hard with the recent trends.

I like Hurt/comfort, and I love playing out slow-burning friendships.

A lot of these exist. The problem is activity, honestly.

[community profile] thedressingroom
[community profile] crosspoint_hills
[community profile] thepillowfort
[community profile] scribbledress
[community profile] wayswithwords

and that's just off the top of my head.

People need to stop being sheep and just going to the same old haunts they are clearly bored with (and often complain about being bored with) and just give the new places a go. An RP comm is only as active as the players posting to them. The mods go to the trouble of setting fresh places up, but people have to use them to make them a workable new place to play.

thedressingroom and wayswithwords are more appealing to me personally because my character doesn't have to fit into another universe or location to play. They can stay in their own worlds to interact. If I see a post here from a character in a mutual place mine might be, brilliant, otherwise they're chatting to them online.

The others are just jamjars without applications, which I'm not a fan of because, again, I like my pups to stay in their own worlds or be able to choose where they are located and why (I actually like my canon and exploring my canon without going too AU). That's what I like about dressingrooms.

It all depends on your taste at the end of the day.

Good crit, bad crit

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
What is good crit and what is bad crit, in your opinions?

Re: Good crit, bad crit

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Good crit takes samples from RP threads and compares them to canon to make their point, while remaining respectful and keeping in mind that some things are open to interpretation. While it's not required, it's nice to soften the blow by mentioning a few things you feel the player's doing right while you're at it.

Bad crit is basically poorly-disguised flaming. Telling someone they suck or need to quit, or that that their voice is "off" without bothering to explain why or even point out threads that gave them that impression. The goal is improvement, not to make somebody feel sad or pressure them to drop.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
The intention behind its delivery also. Good crit is designed to assist and aid improvement, whilst not completely attacking everything about the character's very existence. You're invested in helping the writer, not just attacking them because you don't agree with how they write or their interpretation of something.

Bad crit is just getting a bug up your butt about a character or player and you just want to tear the writer down over any little thing because they piss you off with your intent being to upset or harm the writer. Bad crit can just be listing all the things you dislike about a character or player without offering any advice on how to improve said things.

I will admit I like to play romance and smut, the latter less frequently, but that doesn't mean that those can't have a plot either. Sometimes it's fun to have a first meeting, when nothing has happened yet, or do scenes where they are totally pissed off at each other or breaking up, some other bit of angst.

The one plot guilty pleasure I seem to have is that... I love making my muses go through horrible, horrible things from sickness to death to being stuck in the middle of a room filled with zombies.

How do you handle a panfandom mod who is making your life/your muse account a living hell?
