THE COMIC BOOK HEROES AND VILLAINS MEME!
FIRST, CHOOSE YOUR ROLE; if you're posting, CHOOSE A ROLE, maybe tell us a little about what sort of WHATEVER YOU ARE. Are you a tech hero? Are you a mystical villain? Are you the plucky reporter? Maybe you're the faithful sidekick! Taggers should ALSO choose a role, but hey; it doesn't really matter. Heroes can tag heroes and villains tag sidekicks and maybe Minions tag the poor schlub in distress...
1; Hero - You're a front-cover guy, a super hero. You have a cape, you have a belt with gadgetes, maybe you channel powers mystical through a glowing orb. Maybe you have a sparkling transformation sequence, or maybe you wear mechnical armor. But either way, you're the main event: you're the superhero. Sometimes you're a risen villain, sometimes you were an average joe who got bit by a chemically altered cockroach. Who can say? Either way, you're now doing your best to use your powers for good.
2; Villain - What is light without dark? Good, without evil? You're the nemesis. You're the bad guy. Live it up and enjoy your evil or maybe angst about the things you're driven to do in the name of a greater cause like RIGHTS FOR AN OPPRESSED GROUP or maybe REVENGE FOR YOUR PARENTS! Sometimes the line between hero and villain blur... More than once, one has become the other, and side swapping is pretty common. Were you a good guy once? Who cares. Now it's all about the power, influence, and sometimes just fat rolls of benjamins.
3; Sidekick / Minion - Heroes and Villains both have 'em. Villains tend to off theirs over time, but you know what, heroes don't have a much better track record with plucky youth side kicks. Maybe you hang out with a bunch of other second stringers ala The Brat Pack and try not to get yourselves killed, molested, or otherwise fucked up before your balls drop, or maybe you just don't care. Live Fast And Die With Your Mask On!
4; In Distress - Ah, the girl friday, best friend, annoying reporter, or any number of other roles. You're the victim or a pawn in the games of the demigods of the new world. Maybe you're the dame they plan to fridge to make the hero 'grow' or maybe you have a hopeless nerd crush on the girl who can't tell you she's a superhero/sidekick. You could be a parent, a neighbor, a colleague, or a friend. Maybe you're that asshole who used to push the hero in a locker! Either way? You're probably hanging over a pit full of laser sharks right now, wishing your life was easier.
And now, scenarios:
1: JUST NEED ONE MORE PIECE FOR MY MAD DEVICE!; Does your tech hero need some maguffin to power their armor? Does the villian have a device that will turn the world to ice? Yeah, man, it's pretty nice. Heck, maybe a desperate side kick needs to build a shiny new item for the science fair... or maybe the Distressed normal Scientist doesn't want to give up his new creation!
2: LOVE IN TIGHTS; Skin tight clothes, strange objects of power, death traps with special functions... this is, obviously, the obligatory romantic/smutty prompt. Whether it's villain on hero, a corrupted mentor relationship beween Master and Minion, or perhaps the superhero and his girl friday endure the Man of Steel/Woman of Kleenex issue... Doesn't have to be smutty; sexual tension is a staple of villain and hero relationship, and dont' be afraid to play up the homoerotic aspect, either. We're looking at you, Charles and Erik!
3: THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S UNDER THIS MASK; Secret Identities can be a pain - masks are sexy, yes, but being unmasked can be deadly. Will the villain unmask the hero? Or will the hero find out that he's been unknowingly bedding he hot jewel theif all this time!? Maybe the plucky reporter is getting too close to finding out that mind-mannered Sam Martin is really Sadosam, terrible villain! What price will she pay for such a discovery?
4: THE LINE BETWEEN HERO AND VILLAIN BLURS; heck, sometimes the line doesn't just blur, it bleeds all over the place, gets erased, or really, never existed in the first place. After all, arent' vigilantes technically criminals? Does the hostage get to ese the villain lose his nerve? Or perhaps the hero is just so damn tired of taking care of other people's problems... now he'll give them something to cry about. Will the sidekick get tired of being in the hero's shadow, or will a minion rise and become a supervillain in his own right? Or maybe that hostage is tired of being a pawn in the game... and wants to even the score between BOTH of them...
5: UNLIKELY TEAM UP!; Sometimes there's something bigger then the hero and sidekick; sometimes you gotta think outside the box like a villain does... and for that, you might actually NEED the villain. Or maybe the normal joe Best Pal happens to also be a whiz at this one skill that will save the universe and now, the hero desperately needs him to pull off saving the day! Who knew those classes in underwater basket weaving would be so useful!
6: CATALYSMIC BATTLE; Are you an avergae joe hoping to be safe among the wreckage as terrible monstrosities pour through a dimensional rip? Are you a sidekick who has taken on your mentor's mantle because they've fallen before the horde, and SOMEONE must carry on the legacy of the Noble Lion, or...whoever he was before he got turned into paste? Heroes and villains have their roles to play, of course, in the apocalypse, even heroes can fall. This is the big leagues -- the make or break for whole worlds. Will you crush a planet in your palm, supervillain, or will you make the ultimate sacrifice to save it, hero?
8: A FALLEN FRIEND (OR FOE); A hero is dead; are you the villain who killed him? The sidekick who must avenge him? Another hero who knows all the dirty secrets that'll come out now that they know that Jane Wayne, housewife and mother of four, was Lady Winsome, a beautiful if dangerous villain? When a hero or villain falls, it's big news, and the whole community is shaken.... some guys have shrines to their dead side kicks, even. Creepy, isn't it?
9: PAPERS PLEASE; they're make you register! The sidekicks are being taken by family services, heroes and villains are trying to figure out this new legal system, putting everyone who doesn't play ball on the wrong side of the law. Are you a lobbyist now in trouble with both heroes an villains as you try an legislate for superpowers? Or maybe you want to make sure EVERYONE is super so that really, NO one can be super... After all, if everyone has powers, it stops being amazing!
10: WILDCARD: oh god it's the NEW 52. You've been rebooted! Or... the wildcard, do what you want option. Have you been Loki'd?
