[It never gets easier, really--the more logical part of him understands that this is an occupational hazard. They're soldiers, peacekeeping operatives. They put themselves in the line of fire on a near-daily basis, see each other off on missions knowing that all it takes is one piece of misplaced intel to send everything pear-shaped, and no amount of preparation can account for the tiniest hidden factor. He likes to think he's come to terms with all of it, the inherent dangers of what they do, but then something like this happens and Jack is fighting down panic all over again.
He takes a small team with him in response to the request for backup--which Gabriel rarely calls for, so that's how Jack knows it's probably bad. Tasking the handful of agents to fan out and secure the facility, he's the one who makes a beeline for where Reyes' location is pinging on his visor.
Not that he needs to use it, when there's a perfectly serviceable trail of blood and property damage the whole way there. Jack enters the room rifle first, but lowers it when he finds there's only one occupant.]
Bad guys got away, huh?
[The dryness in his voice masks a real relief--Reyes is clearly injured and they're going to need to get medical attention sooner rather than later, but he's alive, and that's what matters to Jack.]
