Charles, by this point in his life, believed his ability to shield his from 'leaking' would get him through this encounter unscatched or perhaps the better word would be... unviewed, regardless of how good he might have been or not by this point. He could not keep it up successfully while using Cerebro, however he had become stronger and stronger when he actually would touch the mind of another. Perhaps the sheer difference in their actually existence should have given him the clue he would not be quite so lucky in this particular circumstance.
Still, there was no such thing as a completely riskless venture into the mind of another. What he could not know was that Aurus might be able to reach back. He had run into so very few who had the ability to return the touch and they still took him by surprise each time.
