The Opposites Attract Meme

Sure, complimenting personalities bring people together. It's always good to get along with your significant other or friends, so "birds of a feather flock together," as they say. But let's be honest. That doesn't make for good entertainment. Readers and viewers love a good odd couple, where the two are diametrically different. This can be in personality (good girls and bad boys), appearance (Beauty & the Beast, anyone?), species (ALIEN AND HUMAN LOVE IS REAL!!!1), and so on.

This meme is inspired by this concept and a certain song that probably shows your age if you recognize it. According to Wikipedia, "the lyrics are about a couple who love each other despite being different in just about every way possible." And...that pretty much summarizes the meme, too! (Though, it doesn't have to be love. Hate can be an option.)

HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character. In the subject, put info & preferences.
- In the comment, describe your character in a few key words. This is so that people who don't know your canon can see if your character would be a good opposite to theirs.

EX: Outspoken, strong-willed, funloving

- Reply to characters who are opposite (interpret that as you will) to yours.

So he hesitates before pushing the call button for her dorm. But he does it.

[Claire's not expecting company when she hears the buzzer, since everyone she knows that she'd expect to see is accounted for as she runs down the list.

So she hesitates before answering, for a moment tempted to pretend she's not in. Of course, there's always the possibility that it's not a friendly visit, but she figures she can take care of herself if she needs to. But her curiosity gets the better of her, and she presses the button for the intercom, glad she'd at least decided to shower and get dressed just in case she has to be social.]

[Arrogant, proud, mischievous, some times charming, possessive, ruthless, cunning, definitely unstable, quick-witted, manipulative and conniving, among other things.]

[Tony is always adamant that he'll stay away each time they fight, that he'll let Steve come to him if he wants him because that's the way his world works.

But then, his world doesn't work without Steve any more.

In the moment it's heated, his eyes get livid and his stomach gets heavy and he follows through on walking away because he could take down the hulk if he had to in those moments but a day later, two days, too many days and he stops thinking about how much he hates him and can't stop thinking about how much he misses him. With anyone else he can walk away. Severing feelings is a reflex that keeps him functioning, as properly as he ever does function, but with Steve he can't. He can't stay mad, and even when he tries all he can feel are the phantom touches of Steve's hands on his hips and on his back and he winds up racking his brain for ways to fix it.

Which is how he ends up in the gym at six in the morning with two classic chocolate glazed doughnuts in a bag in one hand and a coffee in the other. The two doughnuts are for Steve, and the coffee is for him because he hasn't slept yet. He's working on that. It's only been three days since they'd fought, over something as stupid as him being reckless and Steve being restricting- of all things he shouldn't have said that but he had.

And now he's waiting. Steve will show up eventually, whether sweaty and spent or clean and energized, and he'll be here trying to wrestle out an apology of some kind. This is weak, it's so weak, but it's probably worth it.]

Steve wasn't the kind of man to fight easily. At least, not when it came to himself. Defending others came naturally, though, so it was completely within reason that their first real fight as a couple wasn't about Tony's habit of leaving the bathroom a mess, but instead about his habit of throwing himself into the line of fire in the battlefield. Though, if Steve held still long enough to really think about it, something he'd spent the last three days specifically avoiding, he wouldn't deny that there was a bit of selfishness in it as well.

After all, there was only so many times Steve could see his lover almost explode before his heart overrode his head and confronted him on it.

He did his best to not think about it, because as soon as he did he knew that he'd apologize...and he wasn't sure he was ready to do that just yet. Not until Tony understood what had cause the not so minor blow up, at least. So, in the meantime, the blond had been staying at his Brooklyn apartment. He still ran to the tower every morning of course, there was far too much to be done for him to just neglect his duties. And that morning was no different...until he rounded the corner of the gym to find Tony just kinda..standing there?

He arched a brow, the lead feeling in his guts increasing even as he wiped the sweat from his brow with the hem of his shirt. Just the sight of the man made him want to just forget the whole thing and kiss him again, but Steve Rogers had never been a man to set aside duty in favor of feelings.

"Make a wrong turn, Tony?"
