With all eyes on the remaining Avengers after all that had happened in Germany, in she hadn't tried to track him down right away. She hadn't really had the opportunity, given her involvement in his escape with Bucky. But eventually, when things had quieted down, she'd gotten in touch as discreetly as she could.

Now, here they were, soft music in the background of their quiet conversation, and--at least for the moment--life was good.

After Germany, after Siberia, it's hard to pry Steve out of Wakanda. He keeps in touch with a few people through burner phones and cryptic messages on the internet, but for the most part he's been haunting T'Challa's home in case his oldest and dearest friend can be deprogrammed safely. His friends are gone, scattered in the wind to whatever safehouses they have. Rebuilding covers. Making sure loved ones are just as safe.

He doesn't actually expect to hear from Natasha. It's a nice surprise, actually, and they arrange to meet on neutral ground, in a country that didn't sign the Accords. There's no fear of extraction, not unless someone wants to be an asshole. And even then, he's fairly sure he can escape capture if he tries hard enough. But not right now, in a little nightclub full of laughter and good music. Live good music, his attention straying to the band across the dance floor from where they're seated.

"I'm glad Clint's family is okay. Has he contacted them yet?"

"He called home as soon as he could," she said, "and I check in on them now and then. It's hard to believe how big Nathaniel is getting already." It seemed almost surreal, making small talk, but at the same time, there was a sober undone beneath it all. It was hard to know what the future might hold for any of them.

But the music helps to keep things lighter than they might otherwise have been. "What about you? Any news?"
