"If you'd been a good little boy and actually listened to what I told you, we wouldn't be in this situation, now would we?"

"I am not a puppet for your amusement." Charles' eyes were sharp and almost frigid. Their abilities were a clash of similar but very different genetics. Charles managed glimpses of the man behind the 'mask' of Kilgrave, but it had taken him a long time to put together the pieces. Things would have been different in his earlier years. He had a better handle on his own power, then. But Kilgrave's mutation was a powerful one, and one Charles was having difficulty trying to keep up with. He just had to find the time to focus. He needed to clear his mind of the other man's suggestions before they were replaced anew.

"Nor a tool for your deeds, Kilgrave." He could still feel the shreds of Kevin Thompson in his own mind. A name cast aside, but still there in Kilgrave's mind. "One day soon you are going to find you have taken on more than you're prepared to handle."

This was a challenge he could rise to. If Kilgrave thought he could keep Charles under his control for long, he was in for a rude awakening. The telepath was a powerful mutant. He just needed the right moment, and the right mentality to push past Kilgrave's brand of control.

"I can not just place arbitrary memories in her mind. You have to give me details. It is going to take time if I have to build them myself from the bottom. If you would just let me take a look for myself I could pull them right from your own mind."

She didn't consider him a friend or anything of the sort, which only meant that the situation really had to be dire.

A lot of people find insult in being underestimated; Hunter, though, will take an advantage wherever she can get one. It's not that she's desperate, not that she's not skilled in her own right, so much as it's just good tactics. She didn't make this man look at her and decide she would make an easy meal for him. She just didn't correct him.

Not verbally, anyway.

Brawling matches are a good, quick way both to gauge the local flavor and skill pool, and to gain a quick bit of cash; they also keep her sharp, given that while she may focus on the various and sundry creatures that plague the cities of Below, its people occasionally take their shots at her, too. When this particular man has had his fill, when he's raised his hands and spat to a side - because grace is not a right but a privilege, not afforded to as many as it should be, it seems - she steps off his chest and lowers her spear, and holds her hand out to the woman taking bets for her share.

That's when she notices the marquis, raising an eyebrow. "Enjoy the show?"
