Nonsexual Romance

NONSEXUAL romance

Romantic relationships, under most circumstances, have a sexual component to them. That's just another level of connection many desire with the one they love. Not so the case with you. You're with someone, and both of you very much acknowledge it's some sort of relationship, but you're not with-with them - not sexually. Whether you're just unexperienced and not ready to move to that level yet, believers in romantic friendship (or that situation is more convenient, given your time and place of residency), unable to consummate anything due to physiological differences or other issues, celibate, or simply content with the intimacy that you do have, it's a mutual decision...isn't it? But is this the way you two see yourselves continuing, without wanting more? And what about other people? If they know you're together, do they see your arrangement as "strange" or "less?"

Even if they do, though, it may not matter; you have each other.

[By the time the clock strikes seven, Slaine is already smoothing down his button-down shirt for what seems to be the fifth time. His date is coming over for a nice dinner, after all, and as the host he has to make sure everything runs smoothly. It must be perfect.

Glancing at his own attire, he furrows his brows at the nagging through passing through his mind... could he be overdressed for such an occasion?

Now if only he could stop his fingers from trembling, too.

It takes a while but Slaine manages to control his nerves, smoothing his expression into a calm one, before he opens the door.]

Good evening, Rin. [Does that sound stiff? Gosh, he sure hopes it doesn't. Ahem.] I hope you've been faring well.

[Rin had gone through the same finicky steps, although most of his occurred while he was still getting ready. And his clothing, while always fashionable, is less on the formal side compared with Slaine's. Although he does prefer considerably more accessories. Tonight, he's gone with a few of his wrist bands, his usual necklace and a thick silver ring in the shape of a circling shark.

Upon opening the door and seeing Slaine's attire, he immediately wonders whether he should have selected one of his dress jackets rather than the open-necked silk shirt he now wears. It's always hard to tell with Slaine. And he doesn't want to set a precedent for their dates being dramatic affairs. (Not that they usually don't end up that way regardless. At the same time, he doesn't want Slaine to think he doesn't care about his appearance. Or that he cares too much.

Tch, why does dating have to be so damn complicated?)

He rubs at the back of his neck to distract himself from his traitorous thoughts. Thankfully for Slaine, it's hard for Rin to pay too much attention to Slaine's tone at the moment.]

Hey. Uh yeah, I had a good week, I think. Thanks for asking.

[He quickly adds before he forgets:]

What about you?

[Slaine may look impeccably neat with his shirt and black pants, but he can't help but give a thoughtful glance at Rin's current attire. The man before him is attractive in the count's eyes anyway, regardless of what he wears, and a part of him wishes he could freely express himself like Rin. A small, pleasant smile tugs at Slaine's lips at the sight of the accessories, but it's the shark ring that captures his attention the most.

Rin reminds him of a shark. A benign one like a nurse shark — or even a leopard shark, complete with the intricate appearance.

Maybe it's best to keep that thought a secret, he wonders, as he subconsciously wraps his fingers around the circular pendant around his neck. He wouldn't want to embarrass the guy...]

Pleasant as usual, thank you. Things haven't been too eventful around these parts, but it's nice that way, isn't it?

[His response runs a little smoother than his earlier stiff greeting, he thinks. After a second, Slaine takes a few steps back and bows his head a little, keeping his smile intact.]

Please come in and take a seat. Dinner will be served in a moment.

[While out and about, testing sensory apparatuses against the city at large, he spotted her. It was the first time in his existence that he'd had to double-take, and now here he was, holographic lens over his eye spiraling, zooming, then analyzing, a woman that for all intents and purposes, should not have been here. At least, not looking as young as she did. So he approached, his hands behind his back, head at a mild tilt. Best to try and handle this tactfully.]

Pardon me. You look...quite familiar. You also look lost. May I help you?

[personal profile] anajarvis 2016-03-31 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[It was best to just stay where she was, Ana thought. Staying in one place would make it easier for her to be found, she reasoned. She had never ventured to this area of Central Park before. It didn't look at all familiar.

Ana pulled her legs up onto the bench and rested her arms on her knees and then her chin on hands.

About ten minutes later, she was being spoken to by an Englishman. Her heart skipped a beat, but as soon as she had felt the reaction she also knew that it wasn't her Mr. Jarvis. Ana lifted her head to look at the man. Though it was a bit startling, actually. This man bared similar features to her mister--including in height--though appeared younger.]

Perhaps you have seen me on the street. I've been living in the city with my husband for almost ten years. [Ana smiled softly.] I feel silly to say that I have not ventured to this part of the park before--nor am I certain about how I came to be here.

While I don't believe I can help you with the latter, I can say that the layout may have changed...considerably, in recent years.

[He cleared his throat, one hand coming up to straighten the Windsor knot at his throat. Then he offered that hand to help her to her feet.]

If you wouldn't mind, perhaps a walk about would help you get reacquainted with your surroundings.

[personal profile] anajarvis 2016-03-31 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
[The phrasing was curious and she wondered what he might be referring to. He had also said that she was familiar, she reminded herself. The straightening of his tie left her staring at him for a moment before she did take his hand and moved to her feet.] Thank you. I find this all quite curious. What is your name?

[The question posed him a bit of a problem. He hadn't actually thought to give himself a name that wasn't the one his own particular Mr. Stark had given him, which would have been rather awkward to introduce himself as when faced with a woman of the same surname. Likewise it felt a bit tasteless to introduce himself as Stark. But what about something that was common, perhaps familiar, but not quite enough so to put her on a specific trail just yet?]

You could call me Anthony?

[She was an intelligent woman, and he was just settling into having complete autonomy, so it was only a matter of time before his wits failed him.]
anajarvis: <lj user="braelyn"> (Appreciative)

[personal profile] anajarvis 2016-03-31 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
[His inflection also proved to be curious, though still benign.] Hello Anthony. My name is Ana. I shouldn't travel very far from this bench. My husband will have the entire park scoured to find me. I would prefer to make the job easy for him.

[personal profile] veryintelligentsystem 2016-03-31 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
[He gave her the slightest nod and mild smile, then gestured to a nearby walkway that would loop back around to the bench after a bit of meandering. His hands came back together behind him as he stepped back to let her lead the way. As he opened his mouth to speak, the same small, transparent lens popped up in front of his eye behind that of his glasses, giving him a readout of the park's occupants. There didn't seem to be another Jarvis here.]

A pleasure to meet you, Ana. I imagine if your husband is nearby, he'll more easily spot you standing upright.
anajarvis: <lj user="braelyn"> (Reflection)

[personal profile] anajarvis 2016-03-31 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Her legs were sore and she couldn't remember the last time she was upright. What day was it? Some concrete information was a blur--but fortunately her headache had begun to subside.]

Yes. And staying in the general vicinity will also be an advantage to him. [The path they were walking was open. It was a lovely spring day. She did love a spring day in New York best.] Where are you originally from in England, Anthony? [She inquired.]

[personal profile] veryintelligentsystem 2016-03-31 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Reading the signs of stress, fatigue, and soreness about her person, he might have recommended an over the counter painkiller. The question distracted him momentarily though.]

I'm not from England actually, regardless of accent. I've simply always spoken this way.
