Everything started going wrong when Kanji tried to save his dad.

It had a little effect, which surprised him, but not nearly enough, and the funeral was barely over when the government came calling. There was no escaping their notice, unfortunately, and the living quarters are nice enough and all... but when you're expected to find your match quickly and your growth spurts and grumpy personality keep putting people off, it's hard not to want to go home.

And then there's the fact that Kanji could beat the tar out of most people without the kind of tricks the Powered have. For some reason they don't seem to want competition from a Source, never mind that he figures it helps more than hurts. It doesn't help, either, that he's worried someone's going to try using his ma as leverage, in the absence of a proper match.

Unusually for most Sources, he spends a lot of his free time going to town on a punching bag. School's not really his thing, but beating the crap out of something? That he can handle, especially without much in the way of crafting supplies to go around.
