[it isn't very often that he somehow manages to catch Akira alone, even now that they're friends — to Haru, anyway, and that's all it takes to meet the qualification of Friend in his own book. if he isn't in school, or with Yuki and Natsuki and himself, Akira is so hard to find that he might as well disappear off the Earth altogether when he's off alone (and who knows, maybe he does actually do that? it wouldn't much surprise Haru, anyway).

so with all of that considered it's a happy surprise to find him alone by the wharf save for Tapioca, and for once even without his funny raincoat he seems to perpetually wear half of the time whether it ever actually rains or not. without it it's much easier to see the super-serious expression on his face; a step up from his default of serious but not actually serious enough to be sad, just the look of someone who obviously needs a hug anyway.

it's good, then, that Haru is here to deliver. it makes him appreciate the burst of affection from himself all the more when he remembers how terrified he would have been only a few months ago to even touch a member of DUCK (and such a seemingly scary one, at that?! not that Akira is actually scary now that Haru knows him), but no wave of tingly fear washes over him at all when he leaps down the steps to the space behind the bench and throws his arms around Akira for an impromptu and more than likely unwise hug.]
