BETTER THAN ME.

There's some darkness in your life. It doesn't have to be the epic, soul-crushing darkness that destroys your very existence; you can be a mild cynic or someone who's a little more somber than the rest of the crowd. Of course, you could have the terrible times in your life, making it hard to go on or making you so jaded you're even less than an automaton. What purpose is there in going on in life aside from going through the motion?

That is until this person, this one special person came into your life, and it was like opening a window. They're all light and excitement and beauty and goodness, everything that you're not. They've given you a new lease on life, in some way, and now, there's passion, and perhaps new experiences for you. Even if you don't or can't recognize this, it's true.

The one problem is that you don't feel anywhere near worthy of them, though you may not be familiar with this feeling. Actually, you don't want to taint them at all, despite you being, well, you.

Will your guilt eat you up? Can you tell them they deserve someone better? Or, if you desperately want to hold on to their light, maybe you can make yourself better and prove how much you want them by giving them everything.

[It's been a while since she'd come to Italy, even if it all seems like a blur. Strange case after strange case of crime caused by what she'd thought were akumas cleaned up by some other mysterious force with far more upsetting consequences -- except they weren't, and investigating into it... Marinette still didn't know how to feel. The people she fought against back home had always been good, just taken advantage of and corrupted. Italy's bizarre adventures seemed different.

Its heroes were different, too.]

Giovanna, [Ladybug greets, smiling in a way Marinette would never, if faced with such a terrifying, beautiful boy -- she'd been floored for hours at the discovery that he was only a little older than her. But the smile isn't as confident as usual, today, and her gentle teasing falls flat.] Another criminal off the streets before I even finish transforming. I'm starting to think this city doesn't need me.

[The difference between them, of course, is that Giorno is not a hero. He's never really claimed to be. He isn't a bad person, but he isn't a good person, either, and so in the course of things he considers himself to be something of an equalizer.]

[He doesn't know what Ladybug considers him to be. His opinion of her, on the other hand, is very simple: he likes her. He likes her attitude, he likes what he's seen of her in action. He likes her aesthetic. He just likes her.]

[So he smiles at her the way he smiles at people he likes, radiant and thrilled, and nods his head at her graciously. It's not that he doesn't notice that she's not her usual self today; it's just that he chooses not to bring it up. Yet.]

Of course we need you. Every city needs its heroes.

[She couldn't approve of his methods, that much was for certain, but she'd seen the way the citizens sighed with relief as certain people walked into a restaurant, crossed the street, gave a small smile. She'd learned to identify these men and women as those under Giovanna, even if no one so much as whispered the name around her. That kind of trust in such a shadowy figure... It was strange. She could approve of that respect he commanded without the fear that would have been expected. What's more (and she honestly hates herself a little for this,) she could approve of that smile he gives her. Like she's a bright spot for him. She wonders if he knows that he's a bright spot for her, too.

Probably. Only someone with his confidence could pull off those ridiculous clothes.]

I may have been here a while now, but I'm not one of this city's. Je viens de Paris! Besides, I'm pretty sure those shoes are already filled.
