THE STUCK IN A VIDEO GAME MEME



Video games. We love 'em. You love 'em. Let's get stuck in them. ...Wait.

This meme is the considerably more fantastical version of the "Playing Games" meme. Except this time, you and someone else are now STUCK in the game, and now your only hope to get out again is to finish the main story. Or get the high score, depending on what's more applicable. Note that this does not necessarily have to be an EXISTING game, if you would find it simpler to make up your own. But it CAN be, which naturally might make things a little complicated for, you know, actual video game characters.

Anyway. You probably know the rules at this point, but here's a refresher:

1.) Post with your character.
2.) When you reply to someone, roll from the options below.
3.) Congratulations! You are now stuck in that game. Feel free to pick a specific one if you want, or make up your own random-ass game.
4.) We hold no responsibility for how you and your friend(s?) completely derail the storyline.

OPTIONS:

1. Dating Sim (eg. Tokimeki Memorial, Katawa Shoujo): The question is, are you getting hit on by the main jerk, or are you the aforementioned jerk? And if so... what does that make your buddy?

2. Japanese RPG (eg. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Tales of): Carefully crafted narratives which you're probably going to mess up the moment you step out of the king's chamber. Welp.

3. Western RPG (eg. Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Wizardry): WHY DOES EVERYBODY ASK YOU TO DO EVERYTHING FOR THEM EVER.

4. Management Sim (eg. Evil Genius, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Simcity): You will probably want to consider your road budget a bit more when the short-tempered man in charge isn't stuck behind a computer screen.

5. Beat'em'up (eg. Final Fight, River City Ransom, God Hand): But why DO all these goons look the same ANYWAY?

6. First Person Shooter (eg. Doom, Medal of Honor, Half-Life 2): Sure, you're surrounded by a bunch of horrible flesh-eating monsters, but you've got a pretty sweet gun there, so it's kind of a trade-off.

7. Adventure Game (eg. The Walking Dead, Monkey Island, King's Quest): Turns out when you're not restricted by event flags, your options on how to resolve your issues expands dramatically...

8. Platformer (eg. Super Mario Bros, Rayman, I Wanna Be the Guy): The platforms are floating in mid-air. Don't ask questions, just jump.

9. Strategy (eg. Starcraft, Civilization, Total War): Command great armies and vast kingdoms, and promptly drive them into the ground.

10. Survival Horror (eg. Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space): Alternatively, just treat this like pretty much any Dreamwidth RP ever.

11. Puzzle (eg. Puyo Puyo, Chu Chu Rocket, 2048): Fighting each other with the power of LOVE... and dropping blocks.

12. Fighting Game (eg. Street Fighter, Tekken, King of Fighters): Does this game have a support team mechanic? No? Sucks to be you two.

13. Shoot-em-up (eg. Gradius, Touhou, Tyrian): You think dodging the bullets in 2D was bad, wait until you try it in 3D.

14. Metroidvania (eg. Metroid, Symphony of the Night, La Mulana): We have to go all the way back WHERE?!

15. Classic Arcade (eg. Frogger, Pac-Man, Lunar Lander): This is pretty much the point where trying to create a logical setting starts to break down half the time. Just go with it.

16. Sports (eg. Tecmo Bowl, NBA Jam, Mario Kart): Screw you and your dang blue shells.

17. Visual Novel (eg. Fate/Stay Night, Higurashi no Koro Ni, Dangan Ronpa): Try not to skip straight to the contractually obligated porn scenes, thanks.

18. Action Adventure (eg. Zelda, Okami, Dark Souls): And if Zelda, try to figure out who gets stuck with the green tunic.

19. Block-Builder Sandbox (eg. Terraria, Minecraft, Lego Worlds): Build your dream home, and then watch it get destroyed by the enemies.

20. COMBO: Pfft. Like video games stick to one particular genre anymore. Roll TWO numbers and see what you get.

21: Wildcard/Other: For anything I might have missed.

Was a wooden sword really the best the old man could give you? I hardly think it is a practical instrument for saving the world.

[Not that Gaz minds the getup one bit. She came here to kick ass, after all. Well, the whole "new VR prototype going haywire due to Shenanigans and trapping them in the game" thing wasn't intentional, but she's hardly worried. This is still a video game. She'll just beat the crap out of it and leave when it's over.

Even if she has to put up with some guy who looks like he walked out of a crappy Japanese visual novel. At least he's a little less annoying than her brother, so far.

She holds the aforementioned wooden sword up, examining it a bit, then swings it decisively. A small nearby sapling topples over, sliced in half.]

[Aaaand she's just gonna start marching off in a random direction to explore. This is a pretty old game from her perspective - it was rereleased on the VR machine she was using before getting trapped here - so she hasn't actually played it before. She's familiar enough with the series, though.

[ Well, there are definitely Worse People she could be stuck in this situation with (Souda, Komaeda), although Sonia's more than a little concerned as to the whereabouts of the rest of their classmates. Perhaps they ended up in other countries of this peculiar little game? Whatever the case, she and the SHSL Gamer seem to be collectively in charge of an army and have been given marching orders to go off to war with said army. ]

How quaint! The armament is rather different from what I am used to, but please feel free to rely on my skills in this scenario! While I am not hip to strategy game warfare, actual warfare is of course something I have been trained in.

[ And since they're directing armies against video game goons, it's not like Monokuma gets anything out of their doing well here...

[ ...Look, as far as Sonia is concerned this is a lovely vacation from murdergame hell, even if it also involves more murder. War is an entirely different thing from one on one murder!! She may as well make the most of things. Which appears to mean getting into the spirit of the game entirely. ]

[Tsubomi didn't know how she'd gotten stuck in this situation. Something involving a Desertrian that looked like a gaming system. Now they were trapped in some kind of virtual world, and Tsubomi actually knows what they can do to get through this! Being a lonely child meant you played a lot of video games in addition to tending to and reading about flowers.

She's just, unfortunately, under the impression that the starts of these games broke blocks with their heads, not their fists. And the attempt to do so has left her with a huge, red bump on her head, and tears streaming down her cheeks.]

It left something of a weirder impression when one realizes they're currently stuck in a video game, but of course, of the two that's facing the princess right now, only one of them is even vaguely familiar with this kind of plot.

...So the red-wielding Archer is just staring perplexedly at the princess right now. ]

Looks like there really is nowhere else to go past here.

[ honestly, all that running and fighting their way past random voidbeasts and other abominations, and they manage to end up in a room with a single sword at the altar.

julius puts their map back away with a sigh. not like they weren't getting used to it at this point, since it was quickly just becoming par for the course, but usually... ]

According to this, the sword has magic absorbing properties. It should be capable of nullifying the barrier we found-- [ a grimace, despite himself ] --at the end of the first corridor we were in.

[ usually, the backtracking involved after picking up one of these things wasn't quite so extensive. yup, all the way back to near the entrance, and they're how far into these ruins by now?

[ To be revived as a Servant slash hero in F/GO was a nice touch for Arjuna, definitely. As he's probably be able to accomplish his wish of solitude, again.

To be revived as another hero in another place (that he's pretty sure that he got no idea why and how) was not Arjuna's cup of tea, sadly.

Honestly, Arjuna would pay more attention to the NPC's drivel more if not for something that caught his attention already. So please pay him a mind as he averts his attention at you, Emiya. ]

Do you think Master would spare us four of them if we asked? [ Hey, we're already breaking the fourth wall so why not break it further? Those crystals look like our lovely St. Quartz anyway. ]

With how frivolously he spent those crystals in hopes of strengthening our ranks? Perhaps.

I'm not sure if you haven't noticed it, but our link doesn't really exist in this world.

[ The slight pull of their contract just up and vanished the moment they got there, so that in itself is a problem as it just becomes a race against time.

Hopefully Arjuna has a good rank on his Independent Action skill, otherwise they really won't last long here. ]
