[ The scraping noise of the tip of a pen through paper over the oak desk scrawling back and forth, back and forth was rhythmic. Almost sophoric. Before his vision started to blue, Erwin could feel his back start lean forward like a beleaguered nag under a heavy saddle. Exhaustion was creeping up, preying on him from the shadows beyond the dying light of the gas lamp that sat on the corner of the large oak desk that dominated his cramped office. Pinching the bridge of his nose, Erwin willed himself through these last few budget reports.
When the last dotted line was signed and the last stack of papers left in limbo with the cluttered towers of of it like, Erwin looked over to the couch catty-cornered to his desk and saw that it was empty. Somewhere in the grey and darkening shadows he expected to find a darker sharp unceremoniously reclined against the arm of the couch with legs crossed and a scowl that could be seen even in this murk.
Ah. The last snatches of a brief conversation came back to him, and he remembered Levi left some time ago.
The chair creaks when its legs drag across the floor as Erwin rises. He idly wonders if he were to look down would he would see deep furrows carved into the hardwood where so many late nights sitting in this same spot night after night burning oil that stretched well beyond midnight. The thought wore on him and he pushed it back along with the chair.
Jacket folded over one arm as he came into his room, he strode in and took care to hang it on the hook behind the door that it failed to register right away an oil lamp he didn't light burned in the corner. ]
Levi.
[ Erwin intoned, unflappable as ever as he shifted from remembering their arrangement and Levi being in his room to fluidly moving to lock the door behind him.
That Levi is undressed and on his bed signifies outwardly with Erwin no more than a sudden breeze. Without missing a beat, he set set his keys on the dresser and moved to the end of the room. Erwin sat on the edge of the bed, just near Levi's legs and goes through the motions of his nightly routine as if he were alone. His boots first, left under the window. The straps lashing dark lines across the white of his pants legs and chest rattle as they're unbuckled. Thuds like heavy footfalls struck the floor where he let the straps and buckles fall.
Bare feet cold against the floor, Erwin remained clothed in his usual trousers and white dress shirt with the sleeves now rolled above his elbows. ]
The night got away from me.
[ Erwin said mildly, not unapologetic merely factual.
One hand moved over the sheets and rest on Levi's leg, just above the knee. Calloused fingers ghost slowly over the expanse of his leg to still, grip firm around the meat of Levi's inner thigh. The bone white, overworked knuckles of his hand brushed against the base of Levi's swelling erection enough to tease. ]
